OK, we are now to the ONE and ONLY Rotom with any
helpful presence at all.
Of course, it only has 70 HP, but it has a FREE RETREAT
COST! Wow!
Attacks are overpriced, but what do you expect from a
Rotom??
Type shift to Colorless can really be effective,
countering the Colorless weak Flygon, Garchomp and
others.
Problem is,,,there are more effective counters!!
2 energy to flip, if heads, return the defending Pokemon
and all cards to your opponent’s hand. Boy, if it were
one energy, there would be a WHOLE NEW donker in the
room!!
2nd attack, 3 for 60, good, but may discard an energy.
This card is powered OK.
Ratings…Modified 2.5/5 Best of a weak bunch.
Limited…3.5/5 All colorless attacks, and covering 2
weaknesses make this a more effective play here.
See you all next week at US Nationals is the STL!!

Fan Rotom
Now this is the Rotom that has actually been getting
some hype, as it may have some use as a counter to the
popular Flygon deck. Is it as good as it seems? Let’s
find out.
PokePower: Fan Shift
It hits Flygon Weakness, and Flygon will be played, so
this is useful, I guess.
Attack: Spin Storm
Ummm . . . I suppose you could win on your second turn
if you flip heads and the opponent has no bench. A
potentially disruptive attack for a reasonable price,
but risky.
Attack: Air Slash
Ok, for 3 Energy you get to do 90 damage to a Flygon and
KO it in two hits. The trouble is that with only 70 HP,
Fan Rotom won’t be around long enough to attack a second
time, so you need Lake Boundary or Lucario GL to make it
work. Even then, the cost of 3 Energy (one of which you
may have to discard) makes it too slow. Add to that the
fact that it cannot OHKO if your opponent levels up
their Flygon, and you have a pretty ineffective tech.
If you are really worried about Flygon, then Ditto LA is
a better choice, even though it too is slow and
vulnerable itself. You are better off just sticking with
your main attackers.
Overall this card is okay if you’re lucky with its first
attack but its second attack is pretty awful. Is this
card the answer to Flygon? Well despite the hype from
some people I am going to have to say absolutely 100%
NO!
Like all of the Rotoms, Fan Rotom suffers from low HP
and weak, overcosted, damage output. Even when used as a
tech, in every case there are better options elsewhere.
If you are lucky enough to have playsets of all the
Rotoms and Charon’s Choice, then by all means make a fun
deck for League, but please leave them out of your
tournament lists.
Rating
Modified: 1.5 (overhyped, sub-par tech)
Limited: 1.5 (Can be annoying for the opponent if you’re
lucky)
