Psychic Arceus, like all Arceus, has just the one
attack. Like most of its versions, that attack costs a
pretty hefty three Energy, in this case [P][C][C]. For
that you get to do 40 damage to your opponent’s active
Pokémon and inflict Confusion.
The damage may be sub-par for the cost, but any
attack that comes with an auto (non-flippy) Status
Condition, is a real bonus. Yes, Confusion is easily
played around by simply Retreating or Evolving the
affected Pokémon, but it can still buy you a turn,
especially if it is used against your opponent’s main
attacker when they don’t have an alternative ready on
the Bench. It isn’t an attack you will want to use too
often, but it is a nice option to have.
The real asset of Psychic Arceus, however, lies in
its typing. So many playable Pokémon in this Format have
a weakness to Psychic. Most decks will run one or more
of the Pixies (Azelf, Uxie, Mesprit), many will tech the
Psychic-Weak Nidoqueen RR for its healing ability.
Meanwhile, decks featuring Machamp, Gardevoir, and/or
Gallade are still seen in the metagame. By using the
Omniscient LV X to Level Up Psychic Arceus, you will
have access to an attacker that will be able to hit a
lot of commonly seen Pokémon for Weakness.
That in itself is enough to make this an automatic
inclusion in an Arceus deck.
Rating
Modified (Arceus deck): 3.25 (weak attack, but
essential typing)
Limited: 3 (solid HP and harder to escape Confusion
here)
