Rapidash
Well, there are two Rapidash in the Arceus set (I know
what you’re thinking . . . why Rapidash, of all
Pokémon?). We may get around to the slightly playable
one in a future CotD, but for now we are concentrating
on the preview cards and that means . . .
. . . We finish the week on a low note!
Rapidash has an ok 90 HP, a bad Weakness to Water (in
the current Format),and an always useful Free Retreat.
As for its attacks . . . if it were a Basic, they would
be acceptable, but on a Stage 1? No thank you.
For a single Fire Energy you can do 10 damage and
inflict a Burn with Searing Flame. Burn is nice, but
decks which use it have their own ways of getting it
done (such as Blaziken). Add another Energy of any type
and Flare will do a massive 40 damage with no effect. It
should be obvious that this card is ridiculously
underpowered for a Stage 1 and in Modified, most Pokémon
will laugh off these weedy attacks right before they KO
the Rapidash.
Limited is a different story though. Status Conditions
tend to stick here as it is more difficult to evolve or
retreat out of them, and although the attacks are weak,
they are fast which counts for a lot more in the Limited
Format.
Rating
Modified: 1.25 (Does far too little damage)
Limited: 3.25 (Much better here)
