Charizard G
Not content with having Dialga, Palkia, and Darkrai, now
Cyrus has got himself a Charizard!
Don’t worry, there’s nothing to fear (at least not in
the TCG), because there really isn’t anything special
about this one.
100 HP is great though, even for an SP Basic. That X2
Water Weakness isn’t much fun, and Palkia G, Kingdra,
and Gyarados will make it cry all the way to the discard
pile. The Fighting Resistance is better than nothing,
and could help against tech Relicanths and rogue
Primeape decks, but it won’t save you from Machamp
,which is pretty much the only commonly played Fighting
Pokémon. A Retreat cost of three is absolutely
disgusting (I thought Charizard could fly???), so be
prepared to use up PokeTurns if you ever play this.
Charizard G’s attacks are pretty horrible too. Flame Jet
for[R][C] lets you hit anything for 40 damage . . . as
long as you flip heads. As a sniper, it is completely
outclassed by the Crobat G/Honchkrow G combination. Its
other attack, Heat Blast, is an uninspiring vanilla 50
for three Energy attack which isn’t going to set the
world alight (or anything else for that matter).
So, what you have here is a pretty bad Pokémon that I
assume will only be played by people who want to try the
LV X. Charizard G LV X is a difficult and demanding card
to play in itself, and it gets absolutely no help
whatsoever from its Basic. There’s just no synergy
between them at all, and that is going to lead to the
inevitable low score.
Rating
Modified: 1.25 (The LV X needed help. This doesn’t
provide it)
Limited: 1.25 (The Mediocre attacks don’t cut it here
either)
