Forretress 15/92 (HS Undaunted)
This is the other Forretress, the more useful but less
fun version of the 2 available.
Forretress has 80 HP, fire weakness, psychic resistance
and a retreat cost of 2 which means you should use some
Switch (or just let Forretress exlode in a blaze of
glory). The meatl typing does give survivability with
the damage reduction of Special metal energy, but that
only applies if you can attach them fast enough.
Besides, there are better Pokemon to attach them to. All
in all, it should survive a hit from all Pokemon except
fire and maybe 2 hits from psychic Pokemon. Unless you
are sending Forretress out against a fully powered
attacker, in which case it is comepletely stuffed due to
80 HP being in OHKO range even with several metal energy
attached.
Now the attacks, Forretress has 2, with Spike Spread
being the first and doing exactly what it says on the
tin. for M, you deal 10 damage to each of your
opponent's Pokemon, which is great unles Nidoqueen RR is
on your opponent's side of the arena. Gyro Ball is the
second attack and allows Forretress to retreat to the
bench while dealing 30 damage to the active, all for the
cost of MC. This goes somewhat to fixing the retreat
cost (which isn't all that bad for a metal Pokemon) and
allows Forretress to escape after dealing spread damge
with Spike Spread, but that assumes that Forretress is a
Pokemon worth playing.
The lack of tech abilites and low damage output means
that Forretress has no role in any current deck, and it
probably won't find a niche any time in the future
either. If Spike spread dealt more damage and Forretress
had more HP, this would be an awesome card but as it
stands it is average and forgettable.
Modified: 2 (binder fodder)
Limited: 4 (Special metal energy can absorb damage and
the spread becomes quite effective in the slower, no
healing format)
