Weezing
(Rising Rivals)
Now that Muk is out of the
way, we move on to look at the legal
Weezing in the format.
Weezing is a bit of an
iconic Pokémon, thanks to James in the anime.
Weezing
RR is a Stage 1 with a below par 80 HP, a poor Weakness
and Retreat cost, and a very interesting PokeBody.
Camouflage Gas states that if
Weezing is confused when it is Knocked Out, your
opponent doesn’t take a Prize card.
That’s all very well, but how do you make sure
Weezing is
Confused? It’s a pretty rare
(and useless) Status condition,so
it isn’t going to happen by accident.
That’s where
Weezing’s first attack, Damage Breakdown comes
into play. For one Energy you count the number of
damage counters on Weezing,
put that many on the Defending Pokémon, and
Weezing becomes
Confused. Sounds neat, but
it’s really no more than a gimmick: with only 80 HP,
Weezing will be one-shot
more often than not, making it incapable of inflicting
damage. Although it will deny your opponent a Prize,
that’s only going to delay the inevitable as you won’t
be able to swarm and stall with all your
Weezings for more than a few
turns. Once they are gone, you will have to find some
other method of attacking so . . . why not just do that
in the first place? Your second option with
Weezing is to use Smog. It’s
a cheap attack, doing 20 damage plus Poison for just a
single Psychic Energy but . . . well, it won’t exactly
strike fear into any opponent.
In the end, all this Weezing
has to offer is . . . weirdness. It can stall a bit, but
with a pitiful damage output, and so many ways to play
around the PokeBody (Dialga
G LV X, Warp Point/Bright Look plus
Garchomp C snipe), it’s nowhere near competitive.

gimmick card that’s not even fun to play)

3/10/11: Weezing(Rising Rivals)
Weezing RR, I am disappointed in you.
Look at you. You're basically a floating cloud of
poison. You should be poisoning people! And yet what
status effect do you choose to exploit? That's right,
Confusion. On Poison week, no less. Yeah, Smog causes
Poison, but given that your Poke-Body and 1st attack
have to do with Confusion, it's pretty clear which
status effect you're siding with.
Yeah, there's a combo with Confusing itself and
preventing your opponent from drawing prizes, but
frankly, the combos are really bad for reasons I'm sure
someone else will explain. My personal reason for why
it's a bad combo is because it isn't Poison. For shame,
Weezing.
