Unown
!
(Legends Awakened)
The first three Unowns this
week
have all seen at least some competitive play. Today we
are starting to struggle a bit.
Unown
!
is a weird little card: risky
to play, but it’s not a risk anyone seems willing to
take. It does have the shortest-named
PokePower in the game
though, so I guess that makes it noteworthy. ! (yes
really) is a coin-flip Power you can use once per turn.
Get heads and you can put two damage counters on ANY of
your opponent’s Pokémon, but flip tails and you have to
do the same to one of yours.
I guess some people might be thinking: ‘wait . . .
that’s like a DOUBLE Crobat
G EVERY TURN just for a coin
flip!’ and they have a point (sort of). The trouble is
that it is unreliable: if you are 10 damage short of a
KO you can depend on a Crobat
to help you out (unless it is Power Sprayed), with
Unown
! (which could also be Sprayed), if you hit
tails, not only will you be left short of that KO, but
you have also made it easier for your opponent to take a
Prize from one of your Pokémon.
That makes
Unown !
a fun card to use, but in
competitive play, where you need to calculate your
ability to take Prizes with some degree of certainty,
it’s a luxury you just can’t afford.
Crobat G/PokeTurn
and Skuntank G/any Stadium
remain the preferred methods of adding damage when
needed. Need I mention that the attack is
a bit rubbish too?

good either)
