Goldeen SV
Hello and welcome to another week of Pojo’s CotD. As you
know, we are doing some theme weeks while we wait impatiently
for the first Black and White set, and this week Matt
has chosen Pokémon that look like household pets so . .
. ummm . . . let’s get on with that shall we?
We kick off the week with Goldeen SV. Goldeen is
basically a goldfish (sort of), and the one from Supreme
Victors is the only legal one we have . . . so that will
have to do as far as justifying this review goes.
Goldfish make decent pets: low maintenance, don’t take
up much space, and it’s quite relaxing watching them
swim around. As a Pokémon card, this Goldeen makes . . .
a good pet as well: even easier on the maintenance and
space. You certainly won’t want to use it to actually
play a game. Leaving aside the fact that the only legal
Seaking is also rubbish, this Goldeen has low-ish HP and
two low damage vanilla attacks (one of which is flippy,
and the other one requires Goldeen to be damaged). Throw
in a Weakness to Luxray GL and you have a pet that is
going nowhere fast but the discard pile.
Oh well, at least that’s better than what happens to
useless goldfish in real life. Remember, don’t flush
your unwanted Goldeen down the toilet . . . all that
cardboard would not be good for it.
Don’t worry – not all of this week’s cards are this bad.

3/21/11: Goldeen (Supreme Victors)
Welcome back to another exciting week of Cards of the
Day! This week's theme is Pokemon that resemble pets, or
something like that. Basically, we're reviewing cards
based on Pokemon that would be the equivalent of actual
pets in real life, and ignoring that if it were an
option, everyone would have an Eevee for a pet. :/
We start today with Goldeen, who is, well...it's a
goldfish. Currently, it's the only Goldeen in the
format, so if you're running Seaking for some reason,
you'd have to play this card. Which is pretty lucky for
Goldeen, since as far as basics go, this isn't very
good. Flail isn't good on a 50 HP Pokemon, and while you
could attach a Memory Berry on Seaking and use it,
Seaking only has 90 HP and a Lightning Weakness, meaning
that it's at risk to be OHKO'd. Seaking does have
Endure, which might let it live, but it's flippy, and
chances are, it won't return KO with Flail anyway.
There's also Fury Attack, which is your standard 'flip
coins for damage' attack. I can only think of two things
going for Goldeen in the format:
1. It's decent in Limited.
2. Knowing the history of
Goldeens, the next Goldeen might be even worse.
