G Scope
Today we look at the second ACESPEC that is exclusively
for use with Genesect EX.
The fact that we reviewed G Booster has part of our top
10 countdown and have only just got around to this one
might tell you quite a lot about the card.
Actually, that’s unfair. G Scope isn’t
horrible at
all. Like G Booster, it offers
Genesect an alternative attack as long as this
Tool is attached. In this case it is a 100 damage snipe
at one of your opponent’s Benched Pokémon. Doesn’t seem
bad, does it? Unlike the other Tool, it requires no
discard so you could use it every turn . . . as long as
G Scope stays attached and Genesect
isn’t knocked out.
And that’s the problem, really.
100 damage is
an awful lot to be doing to a Benched Pokémon, but
thanks to HP power creep and Basic EX’s it is often not
enough to one-shot a Pokémon that is giving you trouble
(like Blastoise or
Hydreigon), giving them time
to set up a replacement. It
will get rid
of Garbodor, which is nice,
but even then you would almost certainly be better off
dealing with the immediate problem of their active
Pokémon, which will likely be threatening a KO next
turn. For that, of course, you will need G Booster.
If G Booster didn’t exist, then you
might have
seen this in Genesect decks.
It’s good at KOing
Garbodor and picking off
damaged/weak Pokémon for easy Prizes. Put that against
something that will get you a guaranteed KO on an
immediate threat, however, and it’s no contest.
Rating
Modified: 2.25 (good card and all, but this format
prefers brute force)
Limited: 1 (if you don’t pull a
Genesect EX); 5 (if you do)
