Druddigon
(Plasma Blast)
I’ve said it before, but Druddigon
is one on my least favourite Generation V Pokémon. It
just seems like the colour scheme was chosen by a 5 year
old with a short attention span.
I can’t say I’m a big fan of this card either. 100 HP is
solid (but not great) on a non-evolving Basic, the
retreat cost of one is good, and the Dragon Typing
pretty neutral. However the attacks
are a bit too sucky, to be
honest. Big Swing costs a Fire Energy and does 40
damage. Not too shabby, you might think, until you read
the text and see that it needs TWO coin flips to come up
heads before it even works! Surely 40-for-one isn’t so
outrageously powerful that they had to give it just a
25% success rate? Shred on the other hand has the usual
good effect that this attack always has (unaffected by
effects on the defending Pokémon), but the damage output
of just 60 for three Energy (one of which must be Water)
is just too low.
This Druddigon is really
just a very nerfed version
of Rayquaza DRV/DRX, with
similar, but very inferior, attacks and less HP. It
should never, ever take the place of the older card in
any deck.
Rating
Modified: 1.25 (rubbish version of another card)
Limited: 1.75 (it’s a fairly big Basic, but even here it
lacks speed and power)

Card: Druddigon (Plasma Blast)
To end this week of reviews, we have a Druddigon with
terrible attacks.
This Druddigon is a Basic, Dragon type that is weak to
Dragon types, and has 100 HP. It has a Retreat Cost of 1
(nothing outstanding.)
...And it becomes more mediocre! It's first attack is
Big Swing, doing a nice 40 Damage for 1 Fire Energy...
except that you need to flip 2 coins and get no Tails
for it to work... not good.
It's second attack, Shred, isn't good either. It does a
weak 60 damage for a costly 1 Water and 2 Colorless
Energy, but because you don't apply any effects on the
Defending Pokemon, it can get pas Eviolite and DRX
Bouffalant's Bouffer Ability, but that is all it is good
for in most metagames.
Ratings:
Modified: 1.5, flippy attack plus costly weak attack...
not good at all.
Limited: 2, it's a big Basic, but that is the only thing
going for it. |
