Root Fossil Lileep
Well . . . what can you say about today’s card? If you
want to play Cradily (for
League/fun only, please), then you either use this or
the flippy Twist Mountain
Stadium.
Until recently, the new Restored mechanic (I bet most
still think of them as Fossils) has been impossible to
use competitively because it is so unreliable. Playing a
Trainer and taking your chance that the Pokémon you need
would be in the bottom seven cards was just a very good
way of inviting failure on every level because there was
no way of making sure it would be there. That’s now
changed with the release of Caitlin, a Supporter which
allows you to put cards on the bottom of your deck, and
Restored Pokémon with the Prehistoric Call Ability which
puts the Pokémon on the bottom of the deck if it finds
itself in the discard pile.
This now means that Restored Pokémon
are still somewhat demanding and clumsy to use,
but running them in a deck isn’t completely out of the
question if the reward is big enough (which it hasn’t
been so far). Even so, I find it hard to give a decent
score to today’s card because it has been part of the
worst and least-played Fossil mechanic I’ve ever seen.
Hopefully they will come up with something better for
X/Y.
Rating
Modified: 1 (needed better execution from the start)
Limited: 1.5 (small decks make it slightly more usable)
