Charizard
EX #11
Hello and welcome to the week on
Pojo’s CotD. We are
kicking it off with a look at one of
the two Charizard EX from
the latest Flashfire set.
One (just about) made it in to our top 10 countdown . .
. this one, not so much.
Both Charizards are
superficially similar cards with 180 HP, Water Weakness,
and a retreat cost of two and #11 probably even has a
superior first attack. In place of the
overcosted and
mediocre Wing Attack,
today’s card has Stoke, which provides coin flip
acceleration from the deck for a very low cost. This can
be a pretty good way of powering up the
Zard in the absence of Fiery
Torch/Blacksmith, but the real difference-maker between
the two cards is what they can do with their big Energy
attacks.
See, Charizard EX #12 has
Combustion Blast, which does 150. Slap on a Muscle Band,
and he can OHKO a lot of other EXs. Use him with Laser
and Virbank,
and he KO them all. Charizard
#11, on the other hand only(!)
does 120 with Fire Blast, and this means you need a Band
and the
Laser/Bank combo to take out another EX in one hit. That
is a lot more difficult to achieve, and the difference
between a one or two hit KO is so huge that choosing
which Charizard to run isn’t
really such a tough decision.
Rating
Modified: 2.25 (gets some nice support in the set, but
too mediocre to make best use of it).
Limited: 4.5 (good here. Power him up with Stoke and
sweep)
