SPIKE: Have we ever gotten a deck with all singles
before?
VULPIX: Vulpix vulpix! [Well, there was the one "I try
to get chan and buzz to win" guy, but that wasn't
quite as bad, because he didn't have all these
evolutions.]
SPIKE: I love how, once he gets Blastoise
out--assuming all three members of the family aren't
in his prizes--he can use them to charge up his other
water Pokemon. You've heard of "Turbo Blastoise"?
Well, this is "Blastoise pumped full of enough
tranquilizers to stun an elephant."
VULPIX: Vulpix! Vulpix! [And once he gets Alakazam
out, he can use it to swap damage around! Assuming he
doesn't get beaten by a good deck on the first turn,
of course.]
SPIKE: That's the risk you take when you play with a
deck that's been specially designed to show off all of
your pretty foils.
VULPIX: Vulpix! Vulpix vulpix! [Ooh, this is one of
those guys who asks us to rate his deck on a scale of
1 to 10. What should we tell him?]
SPIKE: I really hate that. Perhaps this is a good time
to tell everybody how I feel about ratings: "GOD I
HATE RATINGS!!!" Thank you. But really, I don't feel
that trying to come up with some stupid number should
be the focus of a deck mechanic's job. If you gave me
a choice between using ratings and beating myself
about the head with a cactus, I'd be picking spines
out of my temples before you could say "8.5 out of
10." So to all the people who ask me for ratings:
Don't hold your breath. Anyway, Vulpix, you can do the
rating if you like.
VULPIX: Vulpix... [Well, we gave that three-color
all-singles deck a -9, so this one should probably get
a -8.]
SPIKE: Fair enough.
