7.13.04 This time around, I'm
going to fix a deck built by a person wanting to recover ole
Ampharos ex. Let's look at what he has to say:
"Hi, first time to write to someone about my deck. I'm more a
collector than anything, but I started playing a few months ago. I
am going to my first tournmament next week and want to make my deck
the best possible.
Sorry, I have no idea what the difference is between
Unlimited or Modified.

I appreciate all the help you can offer. =)

Well, friend, first off the Unlimited format allows all English
Pokemon cards except the following:
-Birthday Pikachu
-Ancient Mew
Modified is a more restricted format, where you amy only play with
cards from the E-Expedition set, to ex-Hidden Legends, and all
Nintendo Promos. Since your deck is leaning more towards the
Modified format, I shall fix it under those guidelines
"1x Electabuzz (Sandstorm 35)
2x Electrike (R/S 53)
1x Manectric (R/S 39)
1x Magnemite (Dragon 63)
1x Magnemite (Rocket 60)
1x Magneton (Dragon 17)
1x Dark Magneton (Rocket 11)
2x Mareep (Neo 65)
1x Flaaffy (Dragon 27)
1x Ampharos EX (Dragon 89)
2x Pikachu (Jungle 60)
1x Dark Raichu (Rocket 83)
1x Raichu (Fossil 14)
1x Drowzee (Base 49)
1x Drowzee (Neo?? 73)
2x Hypno (Fossil 23)
1x Zangoose (Sandstorm 14)"
Hmmm, in my opinion, it needs some work. Singles of cards will not
win you games and tournaments most of the time, unless it is tech to
your deck Let's focus on your main line of Ampharos ex. Also,
Magneton will stay around for the purpose of dealing extra
damage/helping to return energy in a pinch. Last of all, to add
synergy to the other two, throw in a 2-2 line of Delcatty for draw,
and 2-2 .
-Everything but the Magneton line (without Dark Magneton) and
Ampharos lines
+2 Skitty
+2 Delcatty
+1 Magneton (Magnetic Field)
+4 Dunsparce
+2 Mareep (Make all Mareeps Aquapolis)
+1 Flaafy
+3 Ampharos ex
+1 Ampharos (Expedition)

Singles of most trainers are certainly not good ideas. Since we're
going to be building this into a modified deck, go with the
following draw engine. Many of the straight draw cards remove extra
Lightning Energy, so you may use Mareep's first attack, then Rare
Candy into Ampheros ex the following turn, attach, and deal a nice
40-70 damage!
-The whole engine, excluding Rare Candy
+3 Rare Candy
+3 TV Reporter
+3 Juggler
+3 Copycat (Big hands! Oh boy! =D)
+3 Desert Shaman (Disruption)
+4 Pokemon Reversal
On energy, there isn't a whole lot. take out everything but the
Lightning, increase its quantity to 13, and add in 4 Boost Energy.
Boosts can and will come in handy for speedy knockouts!
The final list:
Pokemon (23):
4 Dunsparce (Sandstorm)
4 Mareep (Dragons)
2 Flaaffy (Dragons)
4 Ampharos ex
1 Ampharos (Expedition)
2 Skitty (Minor Errand-Running)
2 Delcatty (Energy Draw)
2 Magnemite (Random Spark/Rollout)
2 Magneton (Magnetic Field)
Well, best of luck with your Ampharos ex endeavors! May you go on to
win your tournament, may it be unlimited or modified ^_^
