Hello all in Pojoland! ‘Tis the Patriarch once again,
with a deckfix, of all things!
In an e-mail from Mr. Monte:
“Hello Mr. Patriarch
I need some help with my deck..I am just starting to get
back into Pokemon..due to the lack of strategy needed to
win in Yu Gi Oh. I bought a Team Aqua Starter deck and
modified it with some of my own cards. This is Modified
format FYI.
25x Pokemon
4x Spheal
4x Carvana
2x Sealeo
2x Kyogre
4x Poochyena
4x Chinchout
1x Walrein
2x Lanturn
2x Mightyena
11x Trainers
2x Potion
2x Aqua Team Schemer
2x Aqua Team Conspirator
2x Aqua Team Ball
1x Aqua Team Technical Machine 01
1x Energy Search
1x Warp Point
24x Energies
16x Water Energy
8x Lighting Energy
This deck has done pretty good on Apprentice testing. I
have a HUGE possibility of drawing 1/3 of my deck in the
first 2-3 turns. If my opponent draws maybe 2-3 pokemon
then I can easily bench him since I have the ability to
load up my bench fast with Mightyena.

Says:
Hmmm, okay, as usual, we shall break down your list in
Pokemon, Trainers, and Energy:
“4x Spheal
4x Carvana
2x Sealeo
2x Kyogre
4x Poochyena
4x Chinchou
1x Walrein
2x Lanturn
2x Mightyena”
Well, without Sharpedo, there is no need for Carvanha,
so remove all of those. Despite Mightena’s potential for
these kind of decks, let’s take the whole line out. With
those 10 extra spots, we’ll reinforce the TA Lanturn and
TA Walrein lines big time! Last of all, 4 Dunsparce for
good measure, and REALLY good swarming potential.
-4 TA Carvanha
-4 TA Poochyena
-2 TA Mightyena
-1 TA Kyogre
+2 TA Sealeo
+3 TA Walrein
+2 TA Lanturn
+4 Dunsparce
Now, the trainers:
“2x Potion
2x Aqua Team Schemer
2x Aqua Team Conspirator
2x Aqua Team Ball
1x Aqua Team Technical Machine 01
1x Energy Search
1x Warp Point”
Well, if your draw is doing you as good as you say it
is, then we’ll just have to kick it up a notch or two!
You don’t have much draw, and even less straight draw.
So we’ll mix it around until a proper number shows up:
-2 Potion
-2 TA Schemer
-1 TA Techincal Machine
-1 Energy Search
-2 Team Aqua Ball
+4 TV Reporter
+2 Copycat
+2 Steven’s Advice
+2 Archie
+2 Professor Elm’s Training Method
+1 Warp Point
+1 Mr. Briney’s Compassion
Since you run no Pokemon ex, it is not a bad idea at all
to change your tech card from the Aqua TM to Briney’s
Compassion. Switching cards are popular in this format
still, so Aqua TM will not be of much use in competitive
areas.
“16x Water Energy
8x Lighting Energy”
Basically, to accomodate room purposes:
-8 Water Energy
-2 Lightning Energy
+2 Double Rainbow Energy
+2 Aqua Energy
The final list:
Pokemon (25):
4 TA Spheal
4 TA Sealeo
4 TA Walrein
4 TA Chinchou
4 TA Lanturn
4 Dunsparce
1 TA Kyogre
Trainers (17):
4 TV Reporter
2 Copycat
2 Steven’s Advice
2 Team Aqua Conspirator
2 Archie
2 Warp Point
2 Professor Elm’s Training Method
1 Mr. Briney’s Compassion
Energy (18):
8 Water
6 Lightning
2 Double Rainbow
2 Aqua Energy
I have a feeling that this revamped version of the Team
Aqua deck could do you much more than what the current
version is. Best of luck with the deck!
