Patriarch's Palace
thegreatcell@aol.com

Well everyone, here is Patriarch, after a LONG, LONG, LONG hiatus from the job. I apologize to any decks that I've missed out on with my busy life of band and debate, but don't fret. If you still need a tweak or two, then send it in!

Today, we check out Chris' Blaziken deck. Here's what he has to say:

Hello, Patriarch

I am writing you because I have a few problems with my
Blaziken Deck.

I went to a tournament today, and got to the cut of
top 8 (With about 20 people there) but lost to a
Walrein Electrode deck. I'm wanting to add a few
cards, but I do not know what to take out. Let me list
the deck, then what I want to be added.

Modified (New Tournament Regulations of Ex On)

Pokemon: 22

3 Torchic (Firebreating)
1 Torchic (Singe)
2 Combusken (Double Kick)
2 Blaziken (FireStarter)
1 Blaziken Ex
3 Skitty (Minor Errand-Running)
2 Delcatty (Energy Draw)
3 Team Aqua's Electrike (Charge)
2 Team Aqua's Manectric (Powershift)
2 Dunsparce (Strike and Run)
1 Rayquaza Ex

Trainers: 20

4 Copycat
4 Steven's Advice
4 TV Reporter
4 Rare Candy
2 Pokemon Reversal
2 Mr. Briney's Compassion

Energy: 18

12 Fire Energy
5 Electric Energy
1 Multi Energy

What I want to add is:

2-3 Warp Point
2 High Pressure System

Well Chris, since the format rotation is about to occur, I will make this ex on legal, as you've requested.

Pokemon: 22
4 Torchic (3 Firebreating, 1 Singe)
2 Combusken (Double Kick)
2 Blaziken (FireStarter)
1 Blaziken Ex
3 Skitty (Minor Errand-Running)
2 Delcatty (Energy Draw)
3 Team Aqua's Electrike (Charge)
2 Team Aqua's Manectric (Powershift)
2 Dunsparce (Strike and Run)
1 Rayquaza Ex

Although you somewhat grasp how to make a solid list, your Pokemon need some help, bud, and here's just how to fix it, to make every aspect of the Blaziken deck consistant and good:

+2 Dunsparce
+1 Rayquaza
+1 Combusken
+1 Blaziken
+1 Blaziken ex
-1 Skitty
-1 Team Aqua's Electrike

A nice thing about the Blaziken deck is that you can swarm with an army of Blazikens whenever necessary, and use their power to your advantage. With only two, you were unable to do that, but now, I think you really can!

Trainers: 20
4 Copycat
4 Steven's Advice
4 TV Reporter
4 Rare Candy
2 Pokemon Reversal
2 Mr. Briney's Compassion

You seem to have plenty of draw in this deck: a factor that I like. However, in order to make this the best you can make it, more tweaking is needed. Now, since this is ruby/sapphire on, let's do it this way:

-4 Copycat
-2 Pokemon Reversal (With Blaziken ex, you have just as much control, without the flip)
-2 Mr. Briney's Compassion
-1 Steven's Advice
-1 Rare Candy
+2 Celio's Network
+3 Prof. Oak's Research
+1 Warp Point
+1 High Pressure System

Although I was unable to fit in as many High Pressure Systems as you seemed to have wanted, this is the best build for your deck's draw engine that I could think of.

Energy: 18

12 Fire Energy
5 Electric Energy
1 Multi Energy

one energy will be removed to make this deck fully legal for use at your local tournaments. However, it still needs some revamping. Take out three Electric Energy, and put in two Multi Energy. That way, your deck is now 60 cards, and really powerful!

Here's the final list, for Ruby/Sapphire-on Blaziken!

Pokemon (26):
4 Dunsparce (Sandstorm)
4 Torchic (2 Dragons/2 Singe)
3 Combusken (2 Flare, 1 Lunge)
3 Blaziken (Firestarter)
2 Blaziken ex
2 TA Electrike (Self Charge)
2 TA Manetric (Power Shift)
2 Skitty (Minor Errand-Running)
2 Delcatty (Energy Draw)
2 Rayquaza

Trainers (17):
4 TV Reporter
3 Rare Candy
3 Professor Oak's Research
3 Steven's Advice
2 Celio's Network
1 Warp Point
1 High Pressure System

Energy (17):
12 Fire
3 Multi
2 Lighting

Now doesn't this, a 26-Pokemon deck, feel a lot different from the olden days? ^_^""

This is a very solid build, and I hope you will do really well next time!

Sincerely,
~Patriarch
