East Coast Super Trainer Showdown
Saturday Event
June 23, 2001
Today was the day of the Super Trainer Showdown so we drove to the
Meadowlands Exposition Center it was about a 30 minute drive. When we got
there at about 8:00am we went in and got checked in. We walked around for
about 20 minutes and decided to leave for a little while so we went to a
pool hall around the corner to play video games. So we did that for about an
hour and then we went back to the STS. My friend Gary and I (Team NJ) found
some of our friends from our Wizards league like Donald and Gino. Gino told
us that the shop was selling Japanese Promos so we went over there. I bought
the ANA Zapdos for $20 and my friend Gary bought the ANA Moltres for $20
also. We sat around and traded until the tournament began.
I don't remember my exact deck but I remember most:
3 Blaine's Ponyta
3 Blaine's Rapidash
2 Rocket's Zapdos
2 Murkrow
2 Magby
2 Erika's Dratini
2 Brock's Mankey
2 Rocket's Moltres
3 Blaine
1 Energy Flow
3 Elm
2 Gold Berry
2 Focus Band
3 Erika
2 Secret Mission
1 Cinnibar City Gym
3 Ecogym
2 Nightly Garbage Run
3 Dark Energy
1 Rainbow Energy
2 Metal Energy
5 Electric Energy
9 Fire Energy
Round 1 - I was lucky enough to get a BYE! Yeah those DCI tournaments do
come in handy.
Round 2 - All I remember is I won!
2-0
Round 3 - I battled a Feraligatr deck and all I remember is I kept drawing
useless pokemon while he got everything he needed and had Feraligatr turn 3
and kept using trash exchange and junky cards like that to get more energy
in his discard I did though manage to get 3 prizes.
2-1
LUNCH BREAK! - We walked to burger king even though it was Pouring RAIN!
Round 4 - I remember I won that's about it.
3-1
Round 5 - I lost due to the fact he had had rocket's zapdos out fast and I
had a HORRIBLE opening hand!
3-2
Round 6 - Maurcio Cruz who also sent in a report.
I was losing horribly with a bad opening hand until I drew a Magby and 2 Erikas and kept sputtering his murkrows and he couldn't lock my magby but by
the time he did I knocked him out next turn. Finally I drew Murkrow and
Brock's Mankey so I attached to Brock's Mankey and Taunted for Slowking. Next turn I retreated brought out Murkrow and just Feint attacked until he
got 2 psychic energy on it so then I retreated Murkrow for Brock's Mankey
and Taunted for another slowking. So I didn't bother to mean look due to the fact that I knew he couldn't retreat for 3 turns because there was NO DOUBLE
COLORLESS and I wanted him to use up his energy because I think that he
thought he could slip around it because I didn't mean look. So I just kept feint attacking until he got 2 full heal energy and then I just locked. He
was gone from that point on. I won!
4-2
Round 7 - I won.
5-2
Round 8 - I got a blaine's ponyta and he got blaine's dash out fast and I lost because of a bad hand.
5-3
Round 9 - I got a Bad hand so I didn't even try I knew with 3 losses you couldn't make top 8 so I didn't care.
5-4
Not bad even though I could have won last round if I had tried. The only
reason I didn't make top 8 was bad HANDS!
Props:
I did great for starting out starting out with bad hands almost every game!
8 Boosters for just participating.
Slops:
BAD HANDS!
