Ready for the New Year? I use all the Pokemon that
you might see just Exploding or Self-Destructing out of nowhere. Actually,
these are the ONLY Pokemon that Self-destruct/explode! Well, the day before
New Year's Eve - December 30th - I found this New Year's/Pokemon thing
going on at Pokemon Paradise! They didn't hold it New Year's Eve because
people should be out at a store in the mall on New Year's Eve; they should
party somewhere else! Too bad my brother was "partying" somewhere
else TONIGHT... They held a tournament, and gave out one free booster pack
(your choice on the set) to everyone who came, and had these trading centers,
and more! Well, I came mostly for the tournament. My deck again uses some
Japanese, this time two different ones but both from Team Rocket. They are:
Koffing: TR-C
40 hp/1 retreat cost
1 colorless: Tackle (10 damage)
1 colorless, 1 grass: Poison Gas (20 damage)
Flip a coin. Heads makes defender poisoned.
Weakness: Psychic No resistance
Volotorb: TR-C
40 hp/1 retreat cost
1 electric: Speed Ball (20 damage)
Weakness: Fighting No resistance
Well, some required (and some not) information: It
was held at Pokemon Paradise in Austin, Texas on December 30. About 20 people
actually took place in the tournament. After 5 rounds whoever had the best
record won (a tiebreaker would happen if anybody got the same record for
first even after the five rounds).
So here is my deck, which (new info!!!) is called
"New Year's Firecrackers!"
Electric Pokemon:
4 Rocket Voltorb
2 Base Electrode
1 Jungle Electrode
3 Base Magnemite
1 Fossil Magneton
1 Base Magneton
Grass Pokemon:
3 Rocket Koffing
2 Fossil Weezing
Energy:
15 Electric
8 Grass
Trainers:
3 Bill
2 SER
3 ER
3 Pokemon Trader
3 PlusPower
2 Professor Oak
2 Revive
2 Scoop Up
Round 1: Greg w/ Fire & Psychic deck
He said "There's SO many Grass decks out
there, so this will beat them all! So many grass decks?! Oh well, I
started off with Koffing and Voltorb (luckily I DID have both grass and
electric energy at hand), Voltorb's up first vs Abra. energy on Voltorb, 20 to
Abra, He tries to evolve Abra but then remembers, tries to paralyze Voltorb
and succeeds. Next Turn get Electrode (Base) by Pokemon Trading the Koffing I
drew, use its power to become 2 grass energy and put it on Koffing. Koffing
kills Abra, then a base Magmar comes, I draw Magnemite, electric on it and
Poison that Magmar. It does 30 to Koffing, but dies anyways after my turn and
Moltres comes up. 20 on it but no Poison and he gets out a Mr. Mime and uses
Switch. He doesn't put any energy on it and it dies in two turns, meanwhile
Magnemite becomes base 'ton, and Moltres has one more turn left to Dive Bomb.
20 to Moltres and poison. His turn it's down to 50, he tries Dive Bomb (he
luckily gets a couple energy search to get the fire for it) but fails! Moltres
is dead, he has no basics and I win.
Record: 1-0
Round 2: Frank "Hitmon" Lee w/ Fighting
deck
Oh crap, I am screwed. This will hurt my record so
bad it's not even funny. Frank is a kid from school who ALWAYS uses this
powerful Fighting deck using 4 of each Hitmons and 4/3/2 ratio on the
Macho line. Electrode and Magneton are both screwed (along with Voltorb and
Magnemite), so my only hope is... Koffing and Weezing?! Oh, for goodness sake!
I start with Magnemite, he opens with Machop. His turn first... not much to
say there. I lose.
Record: 1-1
Round 3: Jackie (Ch)Ann w/ Fighting (the kind
weak to Grass) deck
Jackie I don't know, but obviously she knows
someone who works at P.P. and is a great player (she IS Chinese, btw) since
she has never lost a tournament she played in. Her Fighting deck is about to
get taken down.. because I start with and amazing hand of Koffing, Weezing,
grass/electric energy and some other trainers! Koffing goes out and gets a
fast 20 damage on Diglett, next turn Diglett dies from a Smog attack
(conducted by Weezing) and a couple of Cubones go down, then some Diglett and
an Aerodactyl, and finally a Dugtrio (who gave me trouble with Slash, but
taken care of by Selfdestruct). Poor Weezing... gave me all six prizes
then didn't live to see how happy that I won without giving her a prize!
Record: 2-1
Round 4: Trevor w/ a new excellently constructed
Raindance
When I saw this I laughed and said "Do you
realize how badly you are in trouble?!" But, I have to hand it to you
Trevor that if you read this (he reads just about everything he can on PoJo
since I told him about last time at P.P.'s opening) that your Raindance deck
was VERY well constructed. Starting with 2 Voltorb, I quickly took care of 2
Squirtles and a Seel. Koffing came later and on Koffing's second turn out I
evolved it, and used my Active Base Electrode's power to charge it and send it
after a couple of Poliwags. No basic so game, set, match. I asked him to give
me a list of his cards in this new Raindance of his and I decided to hunt down
the needed ones to make one for myself (e-mail me - address at bottom - for
the list if I can find it again).
Record: 3-1
Round 4: Ass "hole" Williams
This guy's name really is ass, and as the other
people at the tournament tell me, he has a cheating record and acts like he
owns the world, and is sassy, and doesn't respect ANYONE, etc... well, I count
out his cards aloud as I look through (I asked him and he let me) and the deck
is perfectly legal, and it isn't stacked but I shuffle it anyways or I'll know
what's coming. So we begin playing and I don't know how else he can cheat so I
just relax, but keep my eye out. He begins with Bulbasaur and me with Voltorb,
he also has Staryu and Weedle on bench, and Magenmite holds my bench Voltorb
does 20 to Bulbasaur, he plays Grass on Weedle and forgets Bulbasaur cause it
would die anyways, so then Voltorb kills it, Weedle poisons Voltorb, and in
two turns both Weedle and Voltorb die (he forgot to attack Voltorb again).
Magnemite paralyzes Staryu, and then kills it. By then I have a fully-energiized
Koffing and on my turn that I kill Staryu I draw Weezing as my prize. Ivysaur,
energized for Vine Whip does 30 to Magnemite (he didn't have Water to power
Staryu so 'mite still has 10 hp) and I self-destruct. Ivysaur dies my next
turn and no basics for him so I win.
Record: 4-1
Well, they had a tiebreaker for first between 2
people with clear records and I got 3rd. My prize was both Blackout and
Overgrowth decks, which I both modified to become a little better (e-mail me
at the address below for a list of the modified versions, which mostly got
edited on their trainer parts (I have two different modifications for each:
one you only need the simplest cards for and one where you need lots of rare
cards)) and they kick butt. Well, time for Props and Slops and my
signature/e-mail address, which I'll remember to not forget ever again like I
did last time
PROPS to Trevor for constructing such a good
Raindance and also for stopping hanging out with those losers
PROPS to Pokemon Paradise for my prizes (they
really help!)
PROPS to Frank for betting me so quickly and being
the first one to defeat me in a tournment that turned into a deck report
(actually, the third to EVER beat me in a tournament)
SLOPS to Jackie for using the Fighting w/ weakness
to Grass
SLOPS to my brother for once again not coming to
the tournament (I think I'm losing touch with him)
SLOPS to Ass for being such a hole most of the
time as I hear =) (maybe he's a hole because people call him Ass
"hole!")
