Hello. This is Scott, and this is the first tourney that I've ever been to.
The tournament was held at Visions Cards & Games in Montgomery, Alabama on
Oct. 17, 1999 and it was DCI-sanctioned. My deck was Fire and Fighting. I am
not sure about how many people were there, but I'd guess about 15. Well,
the
tourney was divided into groups. I was in the 10 & under group. There were
about 5 kids (including me) in the 10 & under group. Now, for the deck:
Demolition Co.
Pokemon: (24)
4 Machop
2 Machoke
1 Machamp
4 Onix
4 Vulpix
2 Ninetales
4 Dratini
2 Dragonair
1 Dragonite
Trainers: (9)
2 Mysterious Fossil
2 Energy Search
2 Poke Ball
3 Energy Removal
Energy:
13 Fighting Energy
14 Fire Energy
Now, for what happened at the tourney:
Round 1:
The person that I played had (assumably) a Rain Dance deck. Although
Vulpix/Ninetales are weak to Water, I didn't have a hard time. Dragonair
helped win me this game by using Hyper Beam to discard Energies. (1-0)
Round 2:
Describe this in one word. HARD. I'm not sure what types this person had, but
his deck was very good. Once, he had 3 Scythers in play (2 on the Bench, 1 as
the Active Pokemon). Super Energy Removals, Scyther's Resistance to Fighting,
and a couple of other things made this battle HARD. I lost. (1-1)
Round 3:
Well, this person had a deck with all types except for Psychic (I think.)
What made it even easier is that his deck was lacking Energy. Super Potions
helped save him a little, but even with that I won. (2-1)
Round 4:
This was easy. The person that I was battling had a bad deck. He had many
commons, a few rares, and 2 or 3 holos. He even had a (holo) Clefable in his
deck, but no Clefairy. That was an easy battle. (3-1)
Round 5: "Finals"
I battled someone that had a pretty good deck. I know that one type was Fire,
but I'm not sure about the other types. We were taking too much time. We both
had 3 Prizes. Who ever drew a Prize next (his deck was also about 3 cards),
won. One turn, if I drew a Fire Energy to power up my Ninetales, I would have
won. And I did! I won. (4-1)
Round 6: "Finals"
I battled the same person that had the really good deck in Round 2. Again, an
easy loss. (4-2)
Suprisingly, just for being in 2nd, I got $10 store credit! I used it (and $2
of my own money) to buy 2 Jungle boosters for $6.58 (plus tax) and a 1st
Edition Fossil booster for $5.00 (plus tax).
