I played against 4 opponents in TRU's Pokemon League. Here are the
results.
First Match .vs. James
James was a beginner who played a Starter Deck. After winning the
coin
flip and starting with my Farfetch'd with a Pidgey on my bench against his
Rattata with a Ponyta on his bench. I successfully used Leak Slap and knocked
out Rattata. James promoted his Ponyta but have any Fire Energy to use Smash
Kick. One turn and one DC Energy later, Pot Smash brought Ponyta down to 10
HP. James finally drew a Fire Energy, but it was to late since he needed one
more and he was a Pot Smash away from defeat. I did so as he promoted a
Machop.
He used Machop's Low Kick but Farfetch'd Resistance to Fighting left him
unaffected and exactly two Pot Smash's later and no Machoke in sight, allowed
me take him out with just a Farfetch'd that left the battle without a scratch.
Record: 1-0
Second Match .vs. Tristian
Tristian played a homemade Mono-Water deck that contained a
Poliwrath and
a Blastoise. I won the opening coin flip and promoted a Weedle as my chosen
pokemon and placed a Sperow on my bench as Tristian used a Poliwag as his
opening pokemon. I nailed him with Poison Sting which did 20 HP after
applying Poliwag's Weakness to Grass but loss the coin flip which could have
poisoned him. He replied with a 10 HP Water Gun which brought Weedle to 30
HP. I nailed him again with Poison Sting which put him out of his misery. I
took my prize as he promoted a Tentacool which used Acid to bring Weedle's HP
to 20. Luckily, I drew a Pokemon Breeder which allowed me to use the Beedrill
I had since my opening hand and used my last energy to use Poison Sting and
knock him out. I took my second prize and promoted Psyduck which used Fury
Swipes and flipped heads two out of three turns which brought Beedrill's HP
to 40. I gambled and attempted Twin Needle hoping for a quick victory but
neither coins were heads for 0 HP. He evolved it into Golduck but needed one
more energy for Hyper Beam. I used Poison Sting and brought Tristian's
Golduck to 30. He used an energy and used Hyper Beam to reduce Beedrill's HP
to 20 but I attached another grass energy card and used Poison Sting for the
win.
Record: 2-0
Third Match .vs. Jason
Jason played a Fighting Deck which is my deck's specialty as I
looked for
a quick win but in this match was a very difficult. We grew our seven cards
and opened with a Hitmonlee with a Rhyhorn and Diglett on his bench against
my Farfetch'd with my Pidgey and Spearow on my bench. I won the opening coin
flip (I haven't loss one today) but missed my Leek Slap attempt as Jason
attached a fighting energy to Hitmonlee but still couldn't attack. I used a
DC Energy and used Pot Smash to bring Hitmonlee's HP to 30. He used Stretch
Kick on my poor Spearow which brought him to 30 HP but before he could use
High Jump Kick to knock out my Farfetch'd, I used Pot Smash to knock him out.
He promoted Rhyhorn and successfully used Leer two times, then evolved him to
Rhydon and attached a third energy to him which allowed him to used Horn
Attack (which had no effect on my Flying Pokemon thanks to resistance). I
used Pot Smash which brought Rhydon to 70 HP, but he countered by using a
Potion, attached another energy to Rhydon which allowed him to use Ram and
knock out Farfetch'd but doing 20 HP damage to himself. I played my Pidgeot
(I've been evolving him while Farfetch'd was active) and since I powered him
up while he was on the bench, it took one more energy to send Rhydon to
Jason's hand. He promoted a Hitmonchan that he had added to his bench his
last turn, attached an energy, and used Jab which had no effect because of
Pidgeot's Resistance. I used my Impostor Professor Oak to make sure Rhydon
couldn't show make an appearance in this battle for awhile and since we were
both running low on cards, I decided to not use Hurricane at the time
(because it would just make the match run on longer) but used Wing Attack
instead to bring his energy to 50 HP. He attached an energy and used Jab
(knowing it wouldn't do a thing), but received another 20 HP damage thanks to
another Wing Attack. He used Special Punch which brought my Pidgeot to 40 HP,
but I received the last laugh by using Hurricane for the win and drawing my
second prize. He brought out a Marowak, but I then used Wing Attack to bring
Marowak's HP to 40, as Jason used Bonemerang, which had no effect (because he
only flipped one out of two coins for 30 HP, but once more, Pidgeot's
resistance saves me). I used Wing Attack again with the Plus Power I put in
my deck to make 60 cards (and as you can see, I'm glad I did) which brought
him to 10 HP. Jason retreated it and sent out his Dugtrio, which was fully
powered up with energy. He used Earthquake which knocked out Pidgeot, but he
apparently forgot the fact that Marowak only had 10 HP thanks to my Plus
Power, and Earthquake does 10 HP damage to each of your own bench's pokemon
(that's why you should always read the small print under the attack). And
since that was his last prize and I had one left, I won by the skin of my
teeth, since none of the other pokemon on my bench could have withstood
Dugtrio's Earthquake. We barely finished before the 15 minute time limit, but
we played pretty quickly and only had about 10 cards left in our decks.
I didn't play any more games since I had to leave but I traded a
Clefable
for a Dragonite so look for a change in Aerial Assault in my next Killer Deck
Report.
