Hey PoJo, please post this in your Killer Decks Reports.
Hey everyone, I haven't been to a tournament in a
while because I was
searching everywhere to try an put this deck together that I made on my
apprentice. It uses the best two uncommon cards from the fossil set...Slowbro
and Sandslash. The tournament was at Gateway Comics and More in Erie, Pa on
November 21, and it had about 20 people.
Here's what is in my deck:
13 Fighting Energy
13 Psychic Energy
3 Super Potion
3 Bill
3 Pokemon Trader
3 Potion
2 Item Finder
3 Slowbro
4 Slowpoke
3 Sandslash
4 Sandshrew
3 Jynx
3 Hitmochan
The tournament was single elimination...
Round 1 vs. a Rhydon / Onix deck
Pretty interresting deck if you ask me, I like Onix but I never really took a
look at Rhydon. Well anyway, he starts out with an Onix while he builds a
Rhyhorn on the bench. I draw a Sandshrew and a Jynx. His Onix starts
Hardening by turn two and leaves me with some time to try for Slowbro. I use
all three Bill's and finally get a Slowpoke, Sandslash, and a
Hitmochan. I
PokeTrader and bring out the Slowbro. My Sandslash starts cleaning up, and
Slowbro and Potion / Super Potion take care of the damage.
Record 1-0
Round 2 vs. a Wigglytuff Deck
Well, I know Wigglytuff is pretty good but since I never played a deck like
this, I wasn't sure what to expect. I later found out that if you play ANY
good basics, you can really smash this deck 8^). Well anyway, I start out
with a Hitmochan and a Slowpoke, and he starts out with a Bellsprout?! This
is why I am against this deck, quick kills in the beginning of a game are
HUGE. He goes first and Calls for the Family. Hitmochan jabs him, and I start
thinking about who my next opponent is going to be. This was a mistake. In a
matter of a couple turn, he had a full bench of Bellsprouts with 20 dam on
them, with an active and benched Jigglypuff. Well here comes that Wigglytuff,
and I don't have my Slowbro out.Things look bad as he cleans my Hitmochan and
a Jynx that I had benched. This leaves me with Sandshrew and Slowpoke while I
am down two prizes. He flips tails on a Sand Attack leaving me with some
time. I draw a Slowbro, but he is no good to me if Wigglytuff can KO
Sandshrew in one turn. I Bill, getting a Pokemon Trader and bring out
Sandslash. I love Fury Swipes, not only does it save me here but it is a
great attack for a mere two fighting energies. Once Wigglytuff was downed, it
was a matter of time before the Bellsprouts were finished.
Record 2-0
Round 3 vs. a Moltres / Hypno deck
Now this was a good deck. Drowzee is really not a bad basic, and Hypno's
Unknown Puzzle fits well with Moltres's Brushfire. He starts out with Fossil
Magmar and a benched Drowzee. I have Jynx. It didn't look to good as Jynx got
himself into trouble with four flips of TAILS in a row. I was poisoned and it
really looked bad. Then he has Hypno and Moltres ready and waiting on the
bench. I couldn't seem to find a basic pokemon, and then he brings out Hypno.
He must have saw something with that Unknown Puzzle, because next turn
Moltres made me discard three, and they were all BASIC POKEMON. Well, by this
time I have damage counters galore on me, and he brings out a Jynx to finish
me off.
Record 2-1
Well, my first loss in a while. It was a new deck and it needed this play
testing. For making it this far, I reaceived a Fossil Booster that
contained...Hypno. The things I wanted to do to a Hypno right now.... Oh well
anyway, I will probably use another new deck next time featuring Golem ( my
favorite pokemon from the gameboy game ).
Thanks for taking the time to read / or post this. Keep up the great site.
