TOURNAMENT: Pokemon TCG League
LOCATION: Toys R Us of Saginaw, Michigan
DATE(S): November 21, 1999
I went to another Toys R Us tournament over the weekend, and I used my same
deck I used the week before, the forever unbeaten "Millenium
Haymaker". I was
hoped to stay undefeated, did I succeed? Find out:
DECK:
4 Hitmonchan
4 Electabuzz
3 Mr. Mime
3 Scyther
3 Jigglypuff
2 Wigglytuff
3 Bill
3 Energy Removal
2 Potion
2 Energy Retreival
2 Energy Search
2 Gust of Wind
1 Super Energy Removal
1 Item Finder
8 Fighting Energy
7 Psychic Energy
7 Lightning Energy
3 Double Colorless Energy
Round 1: This kid was going points by the second, he mentions that his deck
only lost twice (one being from my friend who wasted him without one Pokemon
of his knocked out). He started with Charmeleon.. and sadly, all I had was a
Scyther. I used the Double Colorless I had in my opening hand to slash him
before he could attack, but he attached is third energy the next turn and
Slashed me for 60. I then drew a Mr. Mime, placed him on my bench, put a
Psychic energy on him and retreated Scyther for him. Charmeleon couldn't
attack him now. After the next two turns, Charmeleon was gone. He then had a
Kangaskhan who used Fetch, and his card was a Gust. The next turn, I had to
think of a plan. I retreated Mr. Mime for Scyther who slashed for 30. But
Comet Punch destroyed Scyther quickly. I used Professor Oak and drew a
Jigglypuff and Wigglytuff with the enough amount of energy to use him. I put
in Wigglytuff and Lullabied Kangaskhan. I then drew a bunch more basics to
power up Do The Wave, and it worked. Wigglytuff knocked out the next 4
Pokemon very quickly and I won the match, he only killed 2 of my Pokemon.
Record: 1-0
Round 2: All this kid would depend on is Charizard. 3 were in his deck. This
was what rallied me on. Either I: Defeated Charmander or Charmeleon before
Charizard would come up; Energy Removal all the energy away before he
unleashed a Fire Spin; or I Gusted it out and destroyed one of his benched
pokemon and take my last prize (that happened once, of course). Those Pokemon
were the only ones that came out. I won easily and my opponent only drew one
prize (when his Charmeleon beat my Scyther).
Record: 2-0
Round 3: I was nearly in trouble, because I was weak to all this person's
Pokemon. I was ambushed by Mewtwo and Jolteon. However, when it got to
Wigglytuff, I was rolling for a little bit. I was resistant to Mewtwo, so I
blasted that away in one hit (with a full bench and Do the Wave, you're just
about unstoppable unless a Fighting Pokemon was there). He finally drew a
Hitmonchan and took out Wigglytuff. I then brought out Mr. Mime to destroy
Hitmonchan. We both had 2 prizes left. He brought out a second Jolteon, but I
had no Hitmonchan to destroy it. So Electabuzz and Energy Removal came and
defeated Jolteon. He then brought out his Ponyta to face my Electabuzz. I
confidently retreated Electabuzz for Jigglypuff, put Ponyta to sleep and did
two Pounds to knock out Ponyta and take my last prize.
Record: 3-0
Round 4: This was a short round. The only basic my opponent had was a
Venonat, in which I destroyed easily with Mr. Mime. After that, no more
basics, and I won.
Record: 4-0
Round 5: I rematched the player I met in Round 4. This time he had more
basics. But this time they were all weak to Fighting (It was a Mono-Lightning
Deck with a few colorless). I smoked him with Hitmonchan to win. This kid
didn't want to battle me again after these two matches.
Record: 5-0
