Hi Pojo,
I competed in a Pokemon League tourney at
Wizards of the Coast on September 4th. It was in San Diego, California.
Well, first of all, here's my deck...
POKEMON:
Water-
4 Squirtle
3 Wartortle
2 Blastoise
Psychic-
4 Abra
3 Kadabra
2 Alakazam
2 Mr.Mime
Colorless-
3 Chansey
ENERGY:
14 Water Energy
8 Psychic Energy
TRAINERS:
3 Bills
2 Gust of Winds
2 Pokemon Traders
2 Professor Oaks
2 Pokemon Centers
1 Pokemon Breeder
1 Computer Search
1 Item Finder
1 Energy Retrieval
Okay, time for the tourney report:
Round one:
I was playing a kid with some deranged deck
with Eevee evolutions. It was bizarre. I got out my Blastoise
after picking off a few Eevees with Kadabra, and destroyed his bench. He
had all of the wrong energies, for some reason there were a few Psychic
energies on his Eevee...He claimed that there were some grass Pokemon in his
deck, but I didn't see any.
Games:
1-0
Round two:
Some kid with a Charizard/Zapdos deck. *Sigh*
Didn't see the Charizard for very long, but the Zapdos took out a Blastoise.
Another Blastoise came in to kill the Zapdos, and Charizard came out, with no
energies. He had a perfectly good Electrabuzz on his bench, with two
Electric energies attached to it though. Go figure.
2-0
Round three:
Oh oh, a kid with a haymaker. I asked him if he had any
Electrabuzz, but he said he didn't, phew...that could have meant trouble for
my Blastoise. Kadabra took out 3 Hitmonchan, but I damaged swaped onto
my two Chanseys. Kadabra goes the distance this time. Due to a bad
shuffle on my part, both Blastoises were the bottom two cards on my deck.
Oh well.
3-0
Quarter-Finals:
Some weird little kid with an annoying Snorlax. Snorlax
managed to get powered up, me with three Chanseys, an Alakazam, a Mr.Mime on
my bench, and a pumped Blastoise ready to go. That kid had the luckiest
coin flips I had ever seen. He must of got at least 10 heads in a row.
Blastoise was paralyzed forever. But due to some desperate Damage
Swapping on my part, Blastoise finally takes down the Snorlax. Then he
uses revive, on Snorlax. AAAHHHH!!!! I pick off some Sandshrews
and Onixes, but I didn't get any Gusts in my hands. Snorlax goes active
again, but no luck this time little kid, he flips tails, and Blastoise kills
it. I finally get the win.
4-0
Semi-Finals:
Some kid with a Rain Dance deck that I didn't see much of.
Magikarp vs. Mr.Mime. I put a psychic on Mr.Mime, while he Bills,
desperately searching for another basic. Another psychic on Mime, 10 to
Karp. He puts a water on Karp, and tackles Mime. Well, Mime
meditates for the win. Oh well, I apoligized that I won that way, he was
pretty cool about it.
5-0
Finals:
Okay, this is it. This kid is playing
Rain Dance. A very long match. We draw our hands, he puts down a
Squirtle, I've got a Chansey. He Oaks. He puts down a Seel and
Magikarp, and Oaks again, then Bills. I can see where this is going...he
finally attacks me after Oaking twice, and Bill twice also. I get, oh
yeah, Mr.Mime. Put down Abra. No attacks from my side. He
evolves Squirtle to Wartortle, and another energy to it. Uses Withdraw,
but it fails. I Bill, and get, Pokemon Trader and Pokemon Breeder.
I trade my Squirtle in my hand for an Alakazam, and breed Abra into Alakazam.
Energy to Chansey, retreat it, and Mr.Mime comes out. Put down another
Chansey, and I prepare to stall. Well, the crazy little kid Oaks
AGAIN!!! evolves Wartortle to Blastoise, and slaps down 5 Water Energies on
it. He didn't see what he had done. Mr.Mime decks another one, for
the win!!!
6-0
Well, I get $25.00 in store credit, and another
win for, Psychic Tsunami!!! I buy 6 basic booster packs, and get
Nidoking, and CHARIZARD. I traded some kid my Charizard for Mewtwo,
Chansey, Blastoise, Venusaur, Clefairy, and Chansey. Man, that kid was
desperate...
Props and Slops:
Props to Wizards for deciding to make the open play into a
tourney
Props to Kadabra and Mime for going the distance
Props to my Mom for paying the entry fee
And props to the kid with the amazing coin flips, who needs to
teach me their secret...
Slops to the kid that said Chansey sucked
Slops to Wizards for not having any judges there
Slops to Zapdos for killing my Blastoise
Slops to the kid that decked himself in the finals
and a huge slops to the kid with the lucky coin flips
Well that's all...
Until next time,
Kyle of the Evil East
