Hi The Pojo guys,
This is a deck for the Killer Decks section. I
participated at a local tournament at a store in Kansas City, Kansas on August
13, 1999. There were roughly, I'd say that there were about 40 people there. I
didn't come out first, but I did do pretty good. First, here's the deck that I
used:
Name: Typhoon
Energies: (23)
23 Water Energies
2 Double Colorless Energies
Pokemon: (25)
3 Squirtle
2 Wartortle
2 Blastoise
3 Magikarp
2 Gyarados
3 Poliwag
2 Poliwhirl
2 Poliwrath
3 Chansey
2 Jigglypuff
1 Wigglytuff
Trainers: (13)
3 Bill
2 Prof. Oak
2 Energy Removal
2 Energy Retreival
2 Scoop Up
2 Computer Search
1 Switch
As you can probably see, this is a
Rain Dance deck. The Blastoise evolution set is in there for obvious reasons.
Then I added Magikarp and Gyarados because I thought that 50 damage for 3
Water energies isn't bad, and neither is 100 HP and Resistance to Fighting.
The Poli family was added because I really like Poliwrath(and also because I
already had enough Poliwhirls and Poliwags to make a small army).
Jigglypuff was added because I needed some help against Mr. Mimes, and his
evolved form isn't too shabby either.
The deck I battled for the first round
was a deck that I really felt sorry for. It was a Rainbow deck, with five
colors and only 7 basics(I asked the guy how many basics he had in his deck
after the battle). I won pretty easily, because the only basic he had in his
hand at the start of the game was a Charmander, and no bench. That was a fast
round. The next one was slightly more challenging, but I still won. It was a
deck based around Fire Pokemon. It wasn't bad; but my deck is mono Water. You
can guess what happened that round. Next, I faced a Scyther deck. I could
tell this one was good. I barely escaped this one alive. He had 4 Scythers in
his deck, and at least 3 Pinsirs. Those guys completely took Gyarados and
Poliwrath right out of this game. He also had some Psys in that deck, I think
a few Mr. Mimes(which Jigglypuff and Wigglytuff took care of) and Mewtwo, but
his deck was mainly Grass. Near the end of the game, he only had 1 Prize left
and I had 2. I had a Blastoise(my last one) active, and he had a Scyther. I
had a Wigglytuff and a Poliwag on the bench, but that was
all. He had a Pinsir and a Kangaskhan on his bench. I got some energies,
Rain Danced them, and Blastoise was able to beat the Scyther! But, Blastoise
only had 50 HP left. He sent out Kangaskhan to stall for a while,
while he regrouped. What happened next was amazing. When I first attacked
Kangaskhan, I only did 50 damage because I only had 4 energies on
Blastoise, and none in my hand. He used Potion on Kangaskhan, so Kangaskhan
still had 60 HP left. The next turn, I drew a Prof. Oak. Just what I needed!
All I had in my hand was a Breeder and Wartortle anyway. In my new hand, the
most important things I got were a Squirtle, another Poliwag, Chansey,
Jigglypuff, and Switch. I put all the basics on the bench, and Wigglytuff
already had enough energies to Do the Wave! I switched Blastoise, and I won
the game!!!
This next round was where I lost. I
heard after the tournament that this person that beat me came in second place
overall. He had a Haymaker. I sent out Squirtle as active, Chansey on the
bench. He had an Electabuzz active, with 2 Hitmonchans on the bench. His
E-Buzz easily beat Squirtle, so I had to send out Chansey. He reatreated
Electabuzz, whom he only gave one energy to. His Hitmonchan had 1 Fighting
energy on it. I instantly knew this was trouble. My turn, energy to Chansey.
His turn, add a Fighting energy to Hitmonchan, Jab. 40 Damage. I added an
energy to Chansey, hoping that Scrunch would work. Just about everything
relied on that stupid coin. It came out tails. First I thought about cursing,
then about killing that other guy and stealing his deck so I could win the
tournament. I did neither. Instead, I said, "you win". He said,
"yep". He added an Electric energy to Hitmonchan, and it was over.
I think this was a good tournament,
with some great decks. Thanks for reading.
