Hi everybody! On the 13th of April I participated at
a Pokemon League
tournament at Command D in Dracut Massachusetts. There were give or take
14-16 players at any given time during the tournament. We have been losing a
lot of our best players to a new card game called "Overpower" and I am
one
of the only good layers left. The kid that 'was' the number one player at
the store according to the ranking list didn't show up becuase two weeks ago
a kid brought in a kick-a$$ fire deck and completely embarresed him. I was
five wins behind him. I 'was' the number two player overall after I had to
get records higher than two people that don't show up anymore. I had been
unstopable up to yesterday, getting first place 3 weeks in a row. So
naturally I now have a lot of enemies out to kill me.
My Tri-Color Haymaker deck is called "The Real
Deal" because I read so
many killer deck reports of Tri Color Haymakers that I think are just
embaressments to the game! I can't stand seeing decks that don't utilize the
full potential of basics that can be used in Tri Colors. Here is a short
list:
Movie Promo Mewtwo, Scyther, Fossil Magmar, Base Set Electabuzz, Lapras,
Hitmonchan, Jynx, and in some cases Ditto, although Dittos are rare
commodities as far as use and availability go around here. Maybe he'll pop
up soon in more Tri-Colors. Now here is my deck: The Real Deal!
Energy: 27
Lightning Energy: 12
Psychic Energy: 12
Double Colorless Energy: 3
Pokemon: 12
Movie Promo Mewtwo: 4
Electabuzz(The Man!): 4
Scyther: 4
Trainers: 21
Bill: 2(don't want to go through your deck too quickly!)
Professor Oak: 2
Super Energy Removal: 3(Basic ERs are good, but they don't slow down your
opponent as much)
Energy Retrieval: 4(You really need these)
Super Potion: 4
Scoop Up: 3(These are very under-rated trainers. They can reall screw up
your opponent's plans, especially at key points in the game.)
Energy Search: 2(these are wicked good in a pinch and when you start getting
your game plan going)
Gust of Wind: 1(this is only good in certain situations and since this deck
emphasises speed, one is all you need becuase you should be wiping out your
opponent's Pokemon fast enough).
Now for the deck report(I try to, but I can't remember all my opponents'
names. I do give it my best shot.)
Match One: Me versus a Lightning/Fighting deck.
Round 1: I start out with a Scyther and a Mewtwo. He
starts with a
Machop. Scyther stalls while I slap energy on Mewtwo and play super energy
removals. He eveolves to Machoke and I promote an Electabuzz to do some
damage, but he keeps using potions and super potions. He kills electabuzz
and I promote Mewtwo. He super energy removals a few times and I use Energy
Absorbtion and after he does some dame I psyburn and after he sends out a
Hitmonchan I promote another Mewtwo and Our match goes back and forth until
he forfeits the match.
Round 2: I start with another Scyther and Mewtwo.
Scyther starts fight
and I goes back and forth between Mewtwos and Scythers and occasionaly an
Electabuzz. He eveolves a Dugtrio and I lead by now with 4 prizes. He has 6.
He earthquakes three times, kill a Mewtwo and two Electabuzzes. I finaly
promote a Scyther and draw a prof. oak and I get a Mewtwo and a Scyther. I
kill Dugtrio and He kills Scyther. I come out with Mewtwo and get rid of his
Hitmonchan. By now he is almost decked so he forfeits rather than be decked.
Record: 2-0
Match 2: Me versus Steve, a good friend of mine with a Mono-Electric Deck.
Round 1: We both start with Electabuzzes active and he has a Fossil
Zapdos on the Bench and I have a Mewtwo. Our Electabuzzes both die when I
Thunder Punch and knck us both out. Mewtwo comes out and another Electabuzz
goes down on my bench. I then start battling Zapdos after knocking out a
Pikachu and Electabuzz. His Fossil Zapdos came out, knocked out Mewtwo and
did heavy bench damage before another Mewtwo came out and blasted him.
Finally after a few more turns of going back and forth time is called after
over a hour of battle and I win the round with one prize left and he had two
prizes left. We shook hands afterwrads. It was the right thing to do after
such a match.
Record: 3-0
Match 3: Me versus a Grass/Colorless deck.
Round 1: He comes out with a Zubat, Bulbasaur and Grimer. He
stalls with
Grimer until I use a Scoop Up on Electabuzz and lay the smackdown on Grimer.
He sends out a Golbat, who I promtly super energy removal. I then kill
Bulbasaur and win the round using a Mewtwo.
Round 2: This was basically the same deal, only he puts Zubat
out first
and I crucify it with a Mewtwo. He sends out a Bulbasaur to stall, a very
stupid decision since Psyburn does 40 damage. He sends out a Golbat, and I
wipe him out again.
RECORD: 5-0
Match 4: Me versus Austin, a boy playing a fire deck with some colorless. He
claims to have 25 fire energy, but has problems getting enough energy out.
Round 1: I start out by drawing an Electabuzz active and
Mewtwo benched.
He promotes a Jigglypuff, who I promtly fry after waking up in two turns. He
promotes a few Magmars from both sets and Mewtwo goes active and wastes
them. He promotes an Arcanine and a Rapoidash, one after the other, and my
Mewtwos and Electabuzzes hit them hard with attacks and super energy
removals. I win the round.
Round 2: He promotes a Marmar, I promote a (what a suprise)
Electabuzz.
He runs out of energy quickly and even my Scythers attack him safely with
worrying about weaknesses. He tries to use a Ponyta and I waste it with a
Mewtwo. He sends out a Promo Arcanine and I waste him with a Mewtwo and win
that round, too.
RECORD: 7-0
Match 5: Me versus Steve again. We were so close we had to fight again.
Round 1:This round was not at all what I expected. He
promoted an
Electabuzz and I did the same again. I wasted the Electabuzz quickly and
while he powered up another Fossil Zapdos he stalled and eventually after
knocking out another Electabuzz and Pikachu, my super energy removals make
Zapdos an easy kill this time and down goes Round one.
Round 2: Pathetic. I'm sorry, I just can't say anything
different. I
waste a pikachu he sends out form the Base Set. He sends out and Electabuzz
and evolves a Jungle Pikachu to Fossil Raichu and puts down a Fossil Zapdos.
He is left with little or no energy and my super energy removals make it
worse. He finally up and forfeits after both Raichu, Zapdos, and a new
Electabuzz are all one damage counter away from defeat and I only need one
prize. I just hit Electabuzz, and win.
FINAL RECORD: 9-0
I won three Fossil boosters and got a non-holo Articuno, non-holo Ditto, and
non-holo Raichu.
Props to everyone I beat for being good sports, Steve especialy.
Props to some new blood around here for bringing some good competition for
The Real Deal in it's now forth week of bringing me to first place.
Slops to the first kid I beat for being the only bad sport.
After the first five wins I had officially passed Adam Morris, the one at
Number One on the rankings who wasn't showing up antmore. Iam now officially
the Number One Player in the whole Pokemon League at the store. I am the
Number One Player, which makes me the Best and consequently the most hated
player!
