Perfectly Mastered Pokemon
Pokemon League
Winnipeg Manitoba, Canada. PENDRAGON. April
22, 2000.
I am, as known on the internet, Nikachu. (I'll explain my name later.) I just
recently wanted to join the Pokemon League and did on that fun Saturday
morning. I went to the closest Pokemon League near me, the Pendragon, and
joined. I consider myself a good Pokemon TCG player and wanted new real life
challenges. The league here started at 2:00 and ended at 5:00. Thats 3 hours
to test my skills. I came early to absorb all 3 hours of play time and to
understand the league from the Gym Leader. I went to have fun and play against
new challenges, trade cards, and win points, (But the most important thing was
to prepare for the Tournament they were going to hold on the next weeks
Sunday!) So as I explain my day, I will have battles and stories :I
This is my ellusive Perfectly Mastered

This deck is very good but
requires only the right moves and decicions to end out on top. For the POKEMON,
I have the Hitmonchan to defeat the Electric and Colorless
pokemon that cause the big threats (Electabuzz, Chancey, Clefable, and
Wiggly.) I have Ditto in there to destroy all those Pychic
Pokemon (especially Movie Mewtwo.) Ditto is also there so that I have the
exact same chance as my opponent, but better because of the colorless
requirements! Electabuzz is there for 3 reasons: Great
against Raindance, Destroys 70 HP Pokemon, and is plainly the best card in the
game. 2 energy for a guaranteed 30 damage with tails (the self damage makes
little diference) and the 40 damage with heads makes this card in my opinion
THE BEST. And now for Aerodactyl. People would think that it
sucks, the damage is does is garbage for its energy, 2 retreat for a simple 60
HP pokemon and is weak to Grass, a perfect target for those Scyther. And you
have to evolve it! Well, those people can't be more right!
Aerodactyl is a pathetic Pokemon. But I never use it to fight, NEVER. It is
too valuable to fight. I use it for it's valuable Pokemon Power:
Prehistotic Power. This power is good because the majority of Pokemon
cards evolve! This is probably the best card as an allie, not an attacker. I
think this is an effective card against raindance decks too! Some people would
say "Muk is better! If Blastoise is out already, Muk can still do the
job!" Right again! But If they get Blastoise out, I can still do my
damage to it with Electabuzz. Besides, I try to get out Aerodactyl just as if
it were as important as a Blastoise. Now I think Aerodactyl is better than Muk
because Aerodactyl can stop evolutions, meaning Blastoise won't come out
regardless, Aerodactyl can prevent the Muk from being evolved too, and if
Muk comes out first Aerodactyl will still be able to evolve. And a really
strong point on Aerodactyl is that it evolves from Mysterious Fossil! This
is great becuase your opponent won't get a prize from it's KO. That doesn't
seem like a card worth enough to Gust of Wind for to most players. If you dont
need to evolve it into Aerodactyl, then use it as a blocker when you want just
1 extra turn. :) Now for the TRAINERS.
I have 2 rules for Computer Search, if I have a Mysterious
Fossil on bench, I'll get the Aerodactyl. If I already have an Aerodactyl or I
have no Mysterious Fossil, then I get a Professor Oak. The only exceptions to
these rules is if I really need a Professor Oak to garauntee Energy or I
dreadfully need a certain Pokemon. Now for Energy Removals,
they are used immediately (NO EXCEPTIONS.) It is good to put pressure on the
opponent. You might want to use the removal with a Super Energy Removal to
make the person panic. I have only 2 Gust of Winds in
this deck mostly because I like to defeat what is already out in the Defending
spot as my opponent's attacker. I guess the only use for these cards is to
attack bench Pokemon that has Energy (It is good to give the first punch on
those scary pokemon) or to just quickly win the game for your last Prize. A
good combo with Gust of Wind is to Energy Remove The (DAMAGED, dont remove it
if it isn't damaged) then Gust of Wind for a low Hp Pokemon with Energy. Ko it
and now he has little choice of pokemon to use, he has a badly damaged one on
bench! Mysterious Fossil is simple to use, keep it on bench
then evolve it to Aerodactyl. I like Plus Powers! I usually
use them to gaurantee the KO on Pokemon with 70 HP. I use Electabuzz a lot and
if I get tails on my first flip, then I want to make sure that it will still
KO on my next turn. The Plus Power will do the 40 damage regardless. Sometimes
it is good to gamble it all and try to KO those 50 HP Pokemon quickly! Okay,
now all I use Professor Oak for is to get more Trainers and
Energy. I use all the Trainers and Energy I can before I Oak (be careful what
Pokemon you put down though, say your opponent only has Scyther. You don't
want to play that Hitmonchan.) And it is always to use Professor Oaks with
common sence. Don't use it if you only have bit of cards left, or plenty of
good cards in your hand. Okay, I'm proud of this next card's combo. The card
is called Scoop Up. You lose little because you only have
Basic Pokemon (Don't Scoop Up Aerodactyl!) And The opponent gets angry when
you Scoop Up a pokemon! Heh heh.. This is what you do when you Scoop Up. First
you Super Energy Remove your opponent and use all of Yopur Defending Pokemon's
Energy to pay for the cost! After you Super Energy Remove, Scoop Up! But it
only makes sence to Scoop Up when the Defending Pokemon has high damage. Now
The Super Energy Removal is a good card, but it has that
caost of one of your energy, so use it when you can spare the Energy. (I've
already given enough Super Energy Removal Strategies.) And Switch is
usually just used to get Aerodactyl out of trouble (Confusion and Asleep.) It
is also good to use just like the Scoop Up combo. Just replace Scoop Up with
Switch and all you will end up with is a damaged pokemon!
Well I started my day by
joining the Pokemon League. I got a badge book, and a Promo Mew. Then when the
Gym Leader came I followed him upstairs at the Pendragon to this room with 3
little rooms to the left. There were only a few people, the Gym Leader, and me
so I challenged the Gym Leader to a pokemon battle. He accepted.... My first
battle in the Pokemon league.
Nikachu vs Gym Leader
I felt worried. I had some
feeling that he would have this invincible deck and destroy me! I started with
a hand of no basics, GULP. He picks up 2. Then I pulled 2 Fighting Energy, DCE,
Switch, Electabuzz, Hitmonchan, and a Mysterious Fossil. I didn't play Fossil,
just incase the opponent wants to Gust of Wind for it for his great advantage.
I played Electabuzz at front, since I had no Lightning Energy, I would let
Eletabuzz absorb the damage then switch for the Hitmonchan when ready. Once he
placed his 2 basics and his prizes I called "Heads." He flipped and
it was heads. He had a Grimer out and a weedle benched. This was a relief, a
garbage deck. I picked up a card, Lightning energy! I was happy. I placed it
on Electabuzz and Thunder Shocked for 10, fliped.. tails. He went and placed a
Grass energy on the Grimer. "Nasty Goo" and he got heads. I picked
up a Plus Power, put an energy on Hitmonchan and then ended my turn as soon as
I remembered to play my Mysterious Fossil. He went and placed Grass Energy on
Grimer. "Nasty Goo" he flipped tails. I picked up a Computer Search!
First I placed DCE on the Electabuzz and played the Computer Search and
discarded My last 2 cards, Fighting Energy and Switch. I had no hand so I went
for a Professor Oak. When I Oaked, I got a bunch of energy and another
Computer Search, along with a Ditto. I Thunder Punched him for the KO. Picked
up a Professor Oak as my prize! He placed a Grass Energy and and Poison
stinged me for 10.. flipped tails. I picked up another Ditto but I just
quickly Computer Searched for a Plus Power to Thunder Punch for WIN!
1-0
As we played, MANY people came in and signed up
and got a Prereleased Holo Team Rocket Gyrados. I asked the Gym leader how to
get it? I had to fill out an activity sheet where I matched the Basic Pokemon
with it's Evolved form. It was easy but since I wanted the card fast, I
matched these random Pokemon with anything. (The Gym Leader said I had to
finish the activity in any way, it didn't have to be correct!) According to my
paper, Diglet evolves into Dark Wartortle. Heh. After that match, I got 20
points and then met this guy who was trading cards. I wanted a Prereleased
Aerodactyl! (Which was one of the other reasons I joined the league.) As luck
had it he had one, and I traded a Clefairy for it. He said he really needed
the Clefairy, I got 10 points for that. Then my next challenge was this small
kid that I challenged.
Nikachu vs Little Kid
We both had no basics and drew
a new 7 cards. My hand was good but not great. Hitmonchan, Electabuzz, Ditto,
Fighting Energy, Lightning Energy, DCE and an Aerodactyl. I placed the
Electabuzz as my Active, it is the best Pokemon. He had 1 basic. I won the
coin toss by calling "Heads." He had a TR Charmander, he must of put
it in as soon as he bought some packs. (That day was the starting selling day
for Team Rocket cards.) I placed an Lightning energy and Thunder Shocked
for 10... tails. He goes. He places a Kangaskhan and a Fire Energy on
Charmander then attacks for 20. I place the DCE on the Electabuzz, I want to
save the Fighting Energy, I Thunder Punched him for the KO. I picked up a
Professor Oak, I hate it when Computer Searches and Professor Oaks are in the
Prizes! Oh well, I'm happy. He went and placed some energy on the Kangaskhan,
Fetch! I placed a Fighting Energy on Hitmonchan and then Professor Oaked an
Aerodactyl and a lot of Energy I had picked up in each of my turns. I pulled
out a Computer Search, Switch, 3 Lightning Energy, 1 Fighting, and a Ditto. I
switched for the Hitmonchan and Jab for 40. He goes and placed a DCE, Fetch. I
go and quickly Computer Search for a Plus Power, Jab for WIN.
2-0
But he asked for a rematch...
Nikachu vs Little Kid
He had a Charmander again, I
got a Hitmonchan, and Plus Powers! I won on my first turn.
3-0
I went to the Gym Leader and he
gave me 40 points. The place was full now with trainers everywhere and battles
constantly being played. It wasn't hard to find a challenger but I decided to
look at the battles for a slight minute. I saw a deck with a Blastoise. I told
the guy "Wow you actually have a good deck!" Then I saw more, he had
a Charmeleon on bench. Blastoise-Charizard Deck? I told him "Your deck
has lost all the good things that I thought of it! Your deck isn't right"
Heh, it was funny because it looked like he was loosing too! Oh well. Since I
defeated the Gym Leader with ease, the word spread around quickly and I got a
bit of popularity. There had eventually had
been 24 people at the league. I had 16 battles that day so I
will only discuss the important ones. I was then challenged by a
kid who was by the name of Tristan. The first thing he asked my was
if I had Apprentice, yep. I asked if he went here at Pojo, he said yes. He
also said that he submitted a Killer Deck Report called Arcanine's
Wiggly Friend. Heh, I liked that neat name. He was actually using
that deck against me. I used my Perfectly Mastered Pokemon deck, the only deck
I have.
Nikachu vs Tristan
I started with a nice hand:
Hitmonchan, Mysterious Fossil, Aerodactyl, Fighting Energy, 2 Lightning
Energy, and a Professor Oak. He had 1 basic, same with me. He flipped the
coin, heads. I went first since I always call Heads. I flipped the Hitmonchan
over and drew an Energy Removal. I placed my Mysterious Fossil and a Fighting
Energy on Hitmonchan. Jab for 20. His turn, he had played a Professor Oak. He
gained a Magmar (fossil), a Magnemite, and a Jigglypuff! He decided to put his
energy on the Magnemite (Lightning.) He did nothing and it became my turn. I
picked up a Ditto and placed it down. I Energy Removed his only energy then
evoved the Mysterious Fossil to an Aerodactyl. From here I attached a
Lightning Energy to Hitmonchan and then I used Professor Oak. I got 2 Computer
Searches!, 2 Lightning Energy, an Electabuzz, Gust of Wind, and a Super
Energy Removal. I placed the Electabuzz and then Jab for 20 on the Growlith, I
didn't want to Gust of Wind for the Magnemite because it is already weak...
I'll let it come out on it's own. He drew a card and then placed a Gambler. I
had this feeling he would get tails, I always get that feeling when someone
uses it! He flipped the coin, Tails. He drew a Fire Energy and placed it on
the Magmar. OH NO! He ended his turn. I usually hate that Fossil Magmar
because it is a really good card for an Uncommon. I picked up a DCE. I placed
The Lightning Energy on the Electabuzz. Then I Gust of Winded for his Magmar.
Now if I take this thing out, Tristan would only have basics that would
KO in one shot. To make him think I was weak, I used Jab for 20. By doing this
he might think I have no Fighting Energy in my hand. He went and picked up his
card. It was a Fire Energy, he placed it on his Magmar, I hoped he wouldn't
Smokescreen me because I want to garauntee my damage next turn. And he used
Smog for 20... tails. Well on my draw I got a Fighting Energy and placed it on
my Hitmonchan. I then Computer Searched my deck for a Plus Power. Then I
Computer Searched my deck for a Professor Oak. I played the Plus Power and
then Professor Oaked my hand. As soon as I picked up my hand, I Special
Punched for KO. He got an Electabuzz out, but no Energy. Then the rest of his
Pokemon got KO'ed on each of my turns until he got Benched.
4-0
I went to the Gym Leader and
asked for my 20 points. Because of my flauless streak of 4 wins and that
I beat one of their best, Tristan, I was starting to get many challenges...
10-0
Well I was having quite a day.
I started to just play my matches on the carpeted floor in a small room and
didn't leave it because I was developing a line outside the entrance, people
who wanted to battle me. I accepted all challenges. After my 10th win I went
to the Gym Leader to get another 20 points. He thought that I deserved a
challenge, I wasn't losing at all so he set a match between me and the
Collector kid that traded me the Aerodactyl! He apperently was basically the
best league member there. Heh, and I contributed to his deck with that
Clefairy, heh. oh well.
Nikachu vs Collecting Kid with this Cefable-Wigglytuff
Deck
!!!! Oh NOO! I got this
horrible HAND! Where is the energy? I got a Ditto, 2 Energy Removals, 1 Super
Energy Removal, 2 Scoop Ups, and Switch. Oh I was screwed, I had no chance in
this one but I figure that if I lose I was at least beaten by the best. I
placed my 1 Ditto and he placed 1 pokemon. He flips the coin, I can heads like
usual. But like usual, if something goes a bit wrong for me, usually
EVERYTHING will go wrong... tails it was. He went first. He flipped over...
Clefairy?! Clefairy!!! Yesss! I had a big smile on my face. He placed a
Lightning Energy on and then used Sing. He flipped Heads. I flipped Tails..
grrr.. damn everything will go wrong crap... I picked up a piece of
Fighting Energy and I placed it on the thing.. Ditto. I ended my turn and then
Flipped Tails... GIVE ME A CHANCE! I was getting angry. He went and evolved
his Clefairy into Clefable. Then he said "thanks for the Clefairy"
but not in a mean way. It was in a very nice way, like he thanked me for
really helping his deck. Then he played a Jigglypuff. He placed more energy
and then Minimized. I flipped Heads "yey!" Then I picked up a
Mysterious fossil and played it. It wasn't like my energy was getting me far
so I Super Energy Removed his Clefable. Now we both had no Energy. I could of
just regularly Energy removed him but he had a Jigglypuff, I was saving them
for it. Then I told him it was his turn. He placed a DCE on his Jigglypuff and
evolved it into Wigglytuff. He then Professor Oaked his hand and drew 7 cards.
Oh, I'm in deep crap... This guy definently deserved to be the league's best.
He place another Jigglypuff, Clefairy and an Electabuzz. He then told me it
was my turn. I picked up a Computer Search! Ooooo time to waste! I first
Energy Removed the DCE and then Computer Searched for a Professor Oak. I
noticed that one was in my prizes because my deck had only 2 inside. I got an
Electabuzz, Ditto, Hitmonchan, Super Energy Removal, 2 Lightning Energy, and
an Aerodactyl. I played the Ditto, Electabuzz, Hitmonchan, and evolved the
Mysterious Fossil into Aerodactyl. Now all I have to do Is destroy the evolved
Pokemon to ensure a sweet victory. I placed an energy on the Electabuzz and
let him take his turn. He just put a Lightning Energy on the Wigglytuff and
then Switched for it! He Gust of Winded for my Electabuzz and used a Plus
Power! (Remeber this one strategy, always try to prepare for the worst that
could happen, THE WORST!) He picked up his prize. Oh no, I lost 1 prize, this
first of the day! I felt so defeated. I picked up my card. OOO Professor Oak!
I used after I placed 1 energy on my Ditto. I picked up a Super Energy
Removal, Switch, Fighting Energy, 2 Mysterious Fossil, and 2 Computer Searches
(that was probably my 6th game I got them both near each other again!) I Super
Energy Removed his Wigglytuff, once again we both have no energy.. Now it was
his turn. He did practically nothing... my turn. I picked up a Lightning
Energy and placed the Fighting Energy on Hitmonchan, switched for the
Hitmonchan and used Jab for 40 on the Wigglytuff. He went and Switched for his
Clefable and placed a Lightning Energy. Then he put a Defender on the
Wigglytuff, he must have plans........ Special Punch for 40. I was doing
bad now. I picked up a Gust of Wind and used it immediately on his Clefairy,
put a Lightning Energy on Aerodactyl (I don't know why?) and then KO'ed
the Clefairy, I wanted the Professor Oak. He went and quickly KO'ed the
Hitmonchan. My next Turn I brought out a Mysterious Fossil and discarded it
for the Aerodactyl. I then Computer Searched, throwing away a Computer Search
and a Switch. I looked for a Double Colorless Energy. Then I destroyed quite a
bit... heh heh. It was a very tense game but in the end, I had 1 prize left to
get while he had 3. My Aerodactyl was KO'ed but He got no more evolution
anyway! He brought out a Kangaskhan at one point though and Gust of Winded for
a Ditto, we both fetch for a long time. This made me affraid to use my
Professor Oak. But I kept removing his energy. His goal now was to stall
for the win. He had no Energy on any of his Pokemon, I had 1 Fighting on the
Ditto. His Defending Pokemon was the Wigglytuff that was regenerated after 1
Potions (It now has 20 damage instead of 40.) He had 4 Pokemon on his bench.
But he was scaring me. My Ditto had 50 damage and he could Lullaby for the KO.
I needed some cards and Energy quickly. So I Professor Oaked. I had 4 cards
left in my deck. He was most likely going to beat me. !!! What is this? I got
a Double Colorless Energy, 2 Lightning Energy, Scoop Up, 2 Electabuzz, and a
Plus Power. I used Scoop Up on my Ditto (Some say that I Scooped Up the hunk
of Crap.) Then I brought out my little Mysterious Fossil. I placed a Lightning
Energy on Ditto. It was now his turn. All he did was place a Lightning Energy
on his Wigglytuff. It was now my turn. I picked up a Lightning Energy. Then I
placed a DCE on Ditto, discarded the Mysterious Fossil and brought out Ditto.
I played an Electabuzz then used Do The Wave for the WIN!
11-0
I told the kid that he was my
best challenge there yet! It was an incredible battle! And he bragged a bit to
a few people about that (he deserves to brag!) I went to the Gym Leader for my
20 points and he stared at me. "Your only human, you have to lose
sometime." Well It didn't look like I was losing soon. I had a bundle of
people now who wanted a piece of me, I accept all challengs.
13-0
I decided for
one game that I would go pick the challenge, I found this kid who used his
friend's preconstructed Team Rocket Deck. This also had some Electabuzz
slapped in there.
Nikachu vs Little Confident Kid
I stated with 2 Ditto, 3
Mysterious Fossil, Aerodactyl, and a Lightning Energy. I placed the 2
Ditto and called Heads... tails. Oh well. He flipped over his cards and he had
all these TR Koffing and Tangela. He attacked me for 10. I picked up a
Gust of Wind. I placed an Energy on Ditto and played all my Myserious Fossil.
Then I attacked him for 10. He went and evolved nothing, then he used a
poisoning attack that delt 20 damage to me. If he flipped heads, then I would
be poisoned. TR Koffing only has 40 HP so he would KO me with the poison. He
kept talking about how he was going to kick my butt. He flipped the coin...
tails. I went, and I picked up some Fighting Energy. I evolved a Mysterious
Fossil into the Aerodactyl. I attached the Fighting Energy onto the Ditto
and used the poisoning attack.... tails. Well I seemed to be screwed. And I
had no Oaks, Computer Searches, Hitmonchans, Electabuzzs, Energy Removals,
NOTHING! After a while I had nothing left, only a 40 damged Aerodactyl and a
Mysterious fossil, and I was against Grass Pokemon! Well I used the Gust of
Wind to bring out a Tangela to stall for a while to keep my Aerodactyl alive.
When it was his turn he used Imposter Professor Oak! What a Moron! Horay! I
shuffled in my 2 cards I had in my hand and then drew my 4 cards: Electabuzz,
Switch, Fighting Energy, and a Professor Oak. Well that kid saved me from
losing. From there and on, my Electabuzz Thunder Punched its way to victory!
14-0
Then he demanded a rematch, saying he would waste
me.
15-0
I then went to the Gym Leader
and he gave me my 40 points for winning. He had now seem that I would be the
league's best and that I would hardly lose. With 7 minutes left, I quickly
squeezed in one more battle with this which all his friends cheered him on. I
accepted this guy's challenge. 5 minutes later one of his friends came and
asked him "have you lost yet?" The guy looked really angry, I guess
he doesn't lose that much. All I used that whole game was my Electabuzz. Then
when I got enough tails, I scooped it up for a fresh Electabuzz. I won very
easily.
16-0
Wow! What a day! On my first
day of the Pokemon League, I made a total of 360 points! That was a lot of
fun, and I'm pretty confident that I can win that tournament now... I hope
there is a good prize! I'm flawless so far in my league and I hope to stay
that way. I'm going for that HOLO MEW! For a long time I've wished to be the
best Pokemon TCG trainer in the world, now that I have a DCI number, I can be
that! This is only the beginning, the day of reconning has finally come....
I'll now tell you where I got
this "Nikachu" name from. I was just sitting around
when I wanted to make a cool Pokemon. It would have to be cool and cute. I
wanted that Pikachu look so I made this card the evolution of Riachu. In the
end it was this cool looking good luck charm I guess, I bring it to everygame
I play. Including the Pokemon League! I got a lot of attraction out of the
little creature, looks like Pikachu but has some new features and a glowing
green tail. It was a Nicotine Pokemon and is resistant to Nicotine and
Radiation. I drew the card and everything! What should I name it though?
Nicotine + Pikachu = Nikachu. Awww and I liked the name. As soon as this
card magically helped me win a few games with it's power, I considered it as
some God. Lord Nikachu. It is an Evil Pokemon so don't think it is all nice!
Stats:
-250 HP
-Evoves from Raichu
-Pokemon Power: Touch
Me and Die: If the defending Pokemon attacks Nikachu, that Attacking
Pokemon is Knocked Out. Nikachu is also not affected by
being put to Sleep, Confused, Paralyzed, or Poisoned.
-Name: Nikachu
-Attack: Cancer 150 (requires 2
Grass and 2 Lightning)
-Type: both Grass and Lightning
-Weak to Psychic
-Resistant to fighting (What
was I thinking?)
-Retreat Cost: 3 colorless
-1st edition
-Info: This cute mouse Pokemon
can withstand great ammounts of Nicotine and Radiation. LV.85 #3 (out
of the 5 cards I wanted to make, I made Nikachu # 3)
-Rare

make a Magic card. And I do use this same deck on apprentice, and I do accept
all challenges. (But I have to take a bit of time to accept a Jap battle.)
Well, I'll tell you the tourney results and some
League results next time!
-Nikachu
Oh yeah... I once face Justin Smith on apprentice
