This
tournament was very, very packed! My
younger brother and I got to L.A. about a week and a half ago and went
sightseeing with relatives. I got to
the boat at about 8:30 AM and saw a big huge line already in place. The line was split into three groups:
The group
with the invitations for the tournament.
The group without the
invitations who would enter the tournament with a Badge Book.
The group who would just go
directly to the activities.
Now for the point system:
You get 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, and 0 points for a loss.
The 8 kids in each age group
(10 and below, 11-14, and 15+) would advance to the single elimination finals.
The
invitation line began to move at about 10:10 and I was on the gangplank at
about 10:30. I checked in and picked up my shirt before
11:00. There was so much stuff to do! You
could get a picture with a giant Dark Raichu card, play in Game Boy
tournaments, play in King of the Hill tournaments (which was very disorganized)
and of course, the League Zone and Erika’s Challenge. I then entered my name into the Erika’s Challenge raffle box and
I was called!! Here’s the deck I will
be using today:

Erika’s Challenge

I was surprised, a grass deck without Scyther. She got a Pinsir going at turn 3 and began
to KO my Pokémon. I Oaked and got
nothing and saw the loss.
Result: Loss, 3 points in 1-day league card.
I played
some more in the league zone and redeemed my card for 3 boosters. I looked at my watch and it was almost 11:30. They had mentioned to go downstairs at 11:30
to see whom you would be playing in the first round. There was a gigantic line of players from all groups who wanted
to go downstairs. There would be a
gigantic mob the whole day wanting to see who would be their next victim.. I
mean opponent.
12:00: I was
in my seat and ready to go! The
tournament has started! I completely
forgot to take down names, I only remember 2 opponents that I played, Lindsay
D’Angelo on Round 6 and Matthew May on Round 8.
Round 1
- - - - - - -
I sent out a Jigglypuff, he had a Scyther. Opponent attaches Rainbow Energy and was
defeated on opponent’s second turn.
Current Record: 0 – 1 – 0
Round 2
- - - - - -
About the same story except it was a Hitmonchan that time
around.
Current Record: 0 – 2 – 0
Round 3
- - - - - - -
Now I say enough is enough. I got Mewtwo out quickly and I dished out a lot of pain to all of
his Hitmonchans.
Current Record: 1 – 2- 0
Round 4
- - - - - - -
I got Wigglytuff out quickly and I was able to KO several
Pokemon until I was shortly interrupted by a Hitmonchan. I proceeded to K.O it with Mewtwo.
Current Record: 2
– 2 – 0
Round 5
- - - - - - -
I led off with Slowpoke and was able to do damage to
nearly all of his Pokémon since he was swapping around. I sent out a fully charged Wiggly, gusted
out all of his weak Pokémon and K.O.’d them until he ran out.
Current Record: 3 – 2 – 0
Round 6
- - - - - - -
I remember happily chatting with this guy about how
everyone played a Turbo Wiggly when he himself played a Haymaker with
Hitmonchans, ‘Buzzes, and Dittos. He
finished me in about 6 turns.
Current Record: 3 – 3 – 0
Round 7 vs. Lindsay D’Angelo
I got a Wiggly out quickly, but was stopped because it
was K.O.’d. Fortunately, I had a
Jigglypuff, Dark Dragonair, and Slowpoke on the bench and I used Evolutionary
Light. I pulled out Dark Slowbro and
used his Pokémon Power, which got me back Wigglytuff, evolved Wiggly, retreated
my Active Gastly for free and the rampage began again.
Current Record: 4
– 3 – 0
Round 8 vs. Matthew May
He played a sponge-killer deck, which quickly beat the
snot out of mine very quickly.
Final record: 4 –
4 – 0
Final Resistance: 112
Wow! I may have lost four times, but I had fun
the whole day. I got about 20+ free
boosters and a free pass for Pokémon The Movie 2000. I saw it the day after and got Ancient Mew, and saw it again on
the 22nd and got all 3 Birds
plus a spare Moltres. I still can’t
find that Jumbo Leg. Bird Promo though, all the WB stores here ran out =(. In case you’re wondering, I was 80th
place.
Picture time!!
That’s me right ^ there.
I got this from the WOTC site.
Props/Slops

Props:
To the Master Trainers who played excellent decks that
day!
My cousin who won about 10 times at the Game Boy
tournament area.
The new spec ops squad:
Mr. Mime, Dark Dragonair and of course Wigglytuff!!
Not having to play my new friend!
To the Gym Leaders set display!!
Slops:
To all the people who had a Hitmonchan or Scyther or
Ditto or Electabuzz in that tournament.
I should’ve asked to play up into the 15+ age group!
A LOT of the employees were misinformed.
To some of the bad rulings the judges made (not on me of
course ^_^)
To my little brother who withdrew from the tournament at
round 4 with a 3 – 0 record.
Thanks for reading and you’ll hear from me next from the
Gym Heroes Prerelease Tournament!!
