Well, I'm here in LA after a 2-hour layover in Boise. I got off the plane,
and, being a major intensity person, worried about every possible thing that
could happen. We arrived at the Queen Mary at about 8:00 pm Friday, met
everyone like Pokegym's webmaster, Tyais. I played a few games, then
retired for the night.
The next day, the big day, I woke up at 6:00, checked my deck, then started
up. Here's my deck. It's a spungy wiggly deck:
THE LIONHART v1.9
4 MP Mewtwo
4 Jigglypuff
4 Wigglytuff
4 Scyther
3 Bill
4 Computer Search
3 Professor Oak
3 Rocket's Sneak Attack
2 Lass
3 Item Finder
3 Scoop Up
4 PlusPower
3 Gust of Wind
12 Psychic Energy
4 Double Colorless Energy
I met up with my friends Geoff and Nick in the lobby, then headed down to
the Exibit hall. We waited in the line outside the Titanic-style ship, and
finally got the appointment card and headed over to the leauge zone. The
STS wasn't until 12:00, so we had some time to kill. I met up with my friend
from Boise, Cody. We talked, played a few games, put on the cool new
t-shirts you get when you sign up for the tournemont, and eventually played
in the STS. Being in the 11-14 leauge, I wasn't expecting too much of a
compotition.
Game 1 - Matt vs. Charles Sweet
To make this long, he was using a big evolution grass/water deck using
Blastoise and Venusuar(?). He started Scyther and Bulbasaur, I started
Mewtwo. I went first, did the whole discarding energy thing with Computer
Search and Professor Oak and Energy Absorption. He didn't do too much, so
I
Gusted his Bulba for a quick KO. He brought out Scyther, gave him a grass
energy, then swords danced. I then quickly found 3 PlusPowers by Comp.
Search, Bill, Item Finder, and Oak to KO Scyther and take the match.
1-0
Game 2 - Matt vs. Geoff Lee
No, not my friend Geoff (He's 15). This guy played a pretty awesome haymaker
with Chanseys(?), and he started very well. So well, in deed, that he
managed to take three prizes. I came back with a vengence when I brought
out Wiggly, though. He managed to draw 3 prizes before I drew all 6 of
mine.
2-0
Game 3 - Matt vs. Johnathon Pram
His deck was similar to mine, but he used Hitmonchan in place of Mewtwo.
Mistake. I Sneaked away all his good cards, then beat down with Mewtwo and
Scyther. He did manage to draw one prize, though.
3-0
Game 4 - Matt vs. Mitchel Tamboy
Yikes. Rain dance. The single deck I fear. Luckily I Lassed
and Sneaked
away his Breeders, Bills, oaks, and Computer Searches. This stalled
Blastoise, but he eventually made his apperance. When he was down to 1 or
2
prizes, I managed to combo Mewtwo and Wiggly to kill Blastoise. He was
then
left with Lapras to confuse me (which he did). I got lucky and got heads on
Do The Wave to knock out Lapras. Whew!
4-0
Game 5 - Matt vs. Cade Shoulders
This kid played a strange fire/water deck. I didn't really see much of it,
though, because I won on turn two with Mewtwo vs. Rocket Squirtle with no
energy.
5-0
Game 6 - Matt vs. Zach Froelich
In this round, all I could tell is that he used Electabuzz because I won
when it was my Mewtwo(fully charged) vs. 'Buzz, then I Lassed to find out
that his whole hand was trainers. YIPEEE! (By the way, he said that he was
a really good trainer, and that he just got an unlucky draw that game. I
played him again for an almost identical game with Lass and Mewtwo *hehe*)
6-0
Game 7 - Matt vs. Derek Bowling
Oh great. Another Haymaker.....Oh well. My Scyther, Mewtwo, RSA,
Oak,
Energy Absorption vs. Hitmonchan......these will do the trick vs. Hays! I
won pretty quickly after that.
7-0
Well, I was pretty happy now, because I was in first place. (Oh, yeah!!)
This is a very big deal at the STS. Next battle is the last one before the
final 8.
Game 8 - Matt vs. Kody Barrett
No, not my friend Cody. Here's another Wiggly deck to eat for breakfast.
This guy said that he was going to defeat me, but I doubted that. I went
first and did my whole sneak, card drawing thing with Wiggly popping out
turn 3 for the win against his Pokemon that weren't much of a problem to
take care of. Too bad for him.
8-0
Well, I'm in the final 8 now. They then did a deck check, and I was SSOO
nervous that my deck was 59 or 61 cards 'cause I forgot to check how many
there were when I checked my deck that morning. Fortunetly, it was fine,
and I went on to play in the final round(s) in single elimination form!
Game 1 of Final 8 - Matt vs. Zach Froelich
Last time I play Zach, I had beaten him twice. He was very surprized that
I
beat him, and seemed to now know how to beat my deck. So, unfortuetly, he
did. HIS Wigglytuff vs. my 2 Mewtwo's. Yikes.
0-1
Well, it was over for me. It was fun to see great trainers there like
Tyais, Jered, Geoff, Nick, and Scott G.(I didn't acually meet him)
As a last note, Zach Froelich gave me his deck list (nice guy). He wants
to
give credit to Brian Barrett for this deck:
4 Jigglypuff
3 Wigglytuff
3 Electabuzz
3 Ditto
2 Scyther
2 Lass
3 Rocket's Sneak Attack
3 Super Energy Removal
3 PlusPower
3 Gust of Wind
4 Professor Oak
4 Bill
2 Switch
2 Computer Search
2 Energy Retrival
2 Item Finder
2 Rainbow Energy
4 Double Colorless Energy
9 Lightning Energy (I think!)
Adios!
