Today was the long-awaited Gym Heroes: Prerelease
Tournament. This is my first-ever Killer Deck Report, and my first-ever
pokemon event besides Pokemon League. I used, as you can probably guess,
a sponge deck. Here it is:
The Nameless Sponge Thingy v1.0
3 Electabuzz
3 MP Mewtwo
2 Scyther
2 Ditto
4 Professor Oak
4 Bill
3 Computer Search
3 Item Finder
4 PlusPower
3 Super Energy Removal
3 Rocket Sneak Attack
3 Gust of Wind
2 Scoop Up
2 Nightly Garbage Run
4 Double Colorless Energy
7 Lightning Energy
8 Psychic Energy
For some reason, we did this in a bracket with
double-elimination instead of the other, less-organized way it was supposed to
be done. Oh well. On to the matches!
Round 1 vs. ??? using a deck with a lot of colors.
Well, this was his first game ever, so I spent most of my time
teaching. My Mewtwo got 3 or 4 prizes before it was KO'ed by a
Kadabra, with some assistance from PlusPowers. Then I brought up a Ditto
with 3 energy and killed it off, leaving him with no pokemon in play.
Second game is kinda fuzzy. I remember a base zapdos being KO'ed by
Scyther and Mewtwo coming in to save the day once again. That's about
it.
Semi-Finals vs. JB with EVIL Wiggly deck
I hate wigglytuff. I've gotten tired of the same pokemon,
the same attack, the same trainers, so on and so on. But I played, and
lost, and lost. Energy Removal and resistance kept wigglytuff alive, and
my Gust of Winds were only a temporary solution. The wiggly prevailed
both games, but that's to be expected against a sponge deck....
Between Rounds
Jacob, who had been knocked out 1st round by JB's EVIL
wigglytuff, noticed that JB's deck seemed a little big. We counted it,
and counted it, and counted it, until we came to the conclusion that it was 64
CARDS!!! He claims that someone messed with his deck, and that he didn't
know about it. We tell the store employee running the tournament, he
looks through the deck. He talks to JB in another room, then comes back,
with JB's deck, now containing only 60 cards, and says that he can play on.
We argue that he should be disqualified, but to no avail. JB goes on to
win the finals. None of us are really happy about this, and we later
find out that he DID know his deck was illegal. *sigh*
Battle for 3rd Place vs. John with Potpourri
Stupid memory failing me! I can't remember much on the
first game, except that I won. The second game, however, was a close and
intense match. Koffing kept confusing me, and I kept getting tails.
But then Scyther comes in and gets 3 unanswered prized before he is KO'ed.
But by that time, I have Ditto, which comes in destroys. He was rather
annoyed by the powers of Ditto, but then it got KO'ed too. This is when
my Mewtwos, all 3 of em, come in and destroy. We are tied with one prize
each, but then I oak, finding a Gust of Wind, and bring out his damaged
Scyther. Psyburn, KO. I probably would have lost the next turn.
Well, 3rd place is pretty good, but wait, the store didn't get
enough boosters from Wizards to give the winners enough packs. I ended
up getting only 1 pack. 1st got 5 packs, and 2nd got 3. The rest
got no extra packs. Although everyone did get an extra free pack, I
still miss out on 2 packs. I buy a pack from JB, the unworthy winner of
the tournament, for $4. *sigh*
I got NO holos, except for the Erica's Dragonair and Erica I
traded something for. And I got the rare Brock's Zubat, which is worse
than the common one.
Props to:
MP Mewtwo
Free packs
McDonalds for providing lunch before the tourney
Um, other stuff....
Slops to:
JB
Wigglytuff
Losing to Wigglytuff
Playing Wigglytuff
Seeing Wigglytuff
Mentioning Wigglytuff
5 slops about Wigglytuff
Resistance
Getting one pack for 3rd place
Rare 30 HP Zubat
Getting no holos
Hmmm, a few more slops than props, but it was still fun.
Oh yeah, I saw someone get a Team Rocket's Trap, and it is
EVIL!!! EVIL, I tell ya!!!
Well, that's it. Sorry if it's too short for your liking,
but my memory has quickly died since summer started....
