The Magmabuzz deck
Competitive Edge Sports, November 11, 2000 Rochester Hills, Michigan
Hey Pojo, what's up?  I just got back from the Pokemon league and had a
great time.  Here's the composition of my Magmabuzz deck.  The place I go to
uses STS New Jersey rules, so I can't have any more than 15 trainers in my
deck, and only three of any card except for basic energy.  There was a
competition today between everyone who had won the tournament in the past 6
weeks.  I wasn't one of them... Oh well, it gave some other people a chance
to win the normal tournament.  Hope you like my report!

Pokemon (21)
Blaine's Ponyta (2)
Blaine's Rapidash (2)

I played a lot of matches today, but I'll only report the ones form the
tournament.  Before the tournament, the gym leader went around handing out
pre release holo Dark Gyradoses.  What a nice guy.  Anyway, on to my first
match.

Game 1 my record- 0-0 This was part of a three game series that qualifies
you for the actual tournament.  I played a guy with an Erika deck.

This game was pretty long.  I don't remember who won the flip, but I started
with Magmar, and he started with Rocket's Scyther.  My Magmar beat it, but
he managed to get off a blinding scythe, so his Erika's Ivysaur could KO my
Magmar.  I then sent out a fully pumped Blaine's Rapidash, and KOed the
Ivysaur.  He then sent out Erika's Paras, no problem for my Rapidash.
However, he had to go do something, so I had to wait forever to use stamp.
Finally he came back and I won.

Game 2- My record- 1-0 Still part of the qualifying round, I played a girl
with a Blaine deck.
If I would have gotten the hand I got this game in any other game, I would
have been toast.  I got a Blaine's Ponyta, and a Scyther, and a bunch of
energy.  The Scyther was gone on turn 2, so my Ponyta had to hold out for 3
more turns until oak arrived.  She would have had me with a Hitmonchan or
Electabuzz.  However, she only had basic Blaine Pokemon.  On my next turn, I
had a wiggly up and waving in front of a full bench, and her 50 and 60 hit
point Pokemon had no chance.

Game 3- My record- 2-0 Last game of qualifying round.  I fought a guy with a
fighting fire wiggly deck.

This game didn't go so well for me.  The guy I played was very good, and I
didn't get a great hand.  I did get a wiggly up with 4 on the bench, but he
clobbered it with a Hitmonchan, and without my wiggly, I was left helpless.

About this time, the storeowner went around handing out bubble gum.  For the
rest of the day, it was hard to figure out what people were saying.  That
was pretty funny.

Game 4- My record- 2-1 The rest of the games are in the single elimination
tournament.  This game was against a guy with a grass deck.

I started with 2 Electabuzzes.  He started with an Oddish.  I would have had
him, but he kept energy removaling, so I just waited until I got jiggly and
wiggly up, after 6 turns (It took him that long to KO Electabuzz) to kick
some serious butt.  It was a repeat of game 2, none of his pokes stood a
chance against my wiggly.

Game 5- My record- 3-1  I played the same guy as the first game.

He had to leave soon, so he just forfeited to me.

Game 6- my record- 4-1 This is the championship; I played the same guy as in
the third game.

Before the game, I predicted that it would be another quick win for him.  He
predicted a very close game.  He was right.  The beginning of the game
wasn't very interesting; we just traded prizes for a while.  When the prizes
count was 4-3 my favor, the game got very interesting.  I had an Erika's
Dragonair up, and used blizzard to knock out a magmar, and got heads,
damaging every Pokemon on his bench.  He then nailed my Dragonair with a
Hitmonchan.  I sent out my wiggly, and got the chan.  Another chan then got
my wiggly.  I then got his chan with a magmar.  He then got my magmar with a
chansey.  He then had just one prize left.  The double edge could knock out
any of my Pokemon I had in my hand, and on the bench.  I rubbed the top of
my deck for good luck and drew, COMPUTER SEARCH!!!  I got an Erika's
dratini, and used tail strike.  Tails.  He then sent out wiggly with 1
energy.  Lullaby.  I woke up.  I began to build up my Blaine's Rapidash.  I
used tail strike.  He then tried again to put me to sleep.  I woke up again.
Tail strike, and heads.  He then waved me for the KO.  My Rapidash's stamp
was heads, and I got wiggly.  Now all I needed was another heads, and His
chansey would be gone.  I got it on my next turn for the win.

For winning, I got a promo Pikachu (the one with thundershock and growl).
It was a great day.

Props to my dad for taking me, the gym leader for being such a great guy, my
final opponent for not being a sore looser, and saying that all the times I
got heads were cheap, promo Pikachu for being the best Pikachu there is, and
to my brother for winning his age group tournament.

I'm in a really good mood today, so there are no slops.  Good luck to
everyone competing in New Jersey!
