Hey Pojo. Your site is #1! Here's my Psychic and Grass deck,
Sword Dancer.
Anyway, the Pokemon League/tourney was held at Toys R Us in Downers Grove, IL.
There were about 20 people there. It was an "everyone plays as many
people
possible and see who gets the most wins in the end" type tourney.
I was using my new Sword Dancer deck. The strategy is explained below it.
Here's the deck:
4 Scyther
4 Jynx (NOTE - There are too many status effect deck in my area, that's why I
didn't put Mr. Mime in. You can put him in if you want.)
3 Tauros
3 Dratini
2 Dragonair
4 Bill
4 Pluspower
4 Energy Removal
2 Professor Oak
2 Computer Search
2 Gust of Wind
2 Switch
11 Psychic Energy
9 Grass Energy
4 Double Colorless Energy
I believe this is a once-popular truly awesome deck, if you ask me. I
remember a long time ago when everyone on the Pokegym message board was
talking about it. Somehow it just slowly faded off.
Anyway, here's the strategy:
You get Scyther out and use Swords Dance and then Slash for 60 damage.
Then
you bring out Jynx and use meditate for a whopping 80 damage! This is one
of
the few decks that can kill off those heavy hitters like Charizard and
stallers like Chansey in three turns.
Sword Dancer is NOT a Haymaker variant. Let me repeat: It is NOT a
Haymaker
variant. Sword Dancer involves much more strategy. It's also more of
a
control-oriented deck and not that much of a beatdown deck. Dragonairs and
Tauros are in their for backup and late-game tactics.
Anyway, on to the report:
Round 1
Me vs. My best friend Eric w/ a water and fire deck
His deck was a spin-off of my AeroHay 2000 deck I made last month (it was
fire/electric). He took it and "twisted" it around a bit.
Anyway, I started
with Scyther and two pluspowers in my hand. He started with Lapras and no
other basics on his bench. He won the flip and did 10 damage to my
Scyther.
I attached a grass energy and used Swords Dance. He didn't have any other
energies so he did 10 damage to me again. Next turn I attached a DCE to
Scyther, put down 2 pluspowers and did Slash for 80 and killed his Lapras in
one hit :-). He got no other basics that game.
1 Win, 0 Losses
Round 2
Me vs. another kid with a water/fire deck
This kid was whoopin' everyone: my best friend Eric, the gym leader, etc.
Luckily everyone was cheering me on so I could break his undefeated record.
He started out with Eevee and **SOMEHOW** got all his evos out by the second
turn. I think he rigged his deck. Oh well, I figured I'd teach him a
lesson.
I started with Scyther. He won the flip and did Tail wag with Eevee but
the
flip landed on tails. I attached a grass energy to Scyther and used Swords
Dance. Next turn, he evolved his Eeve into Flareon and attached a fire
energy
and used Quick attack. Luckily it landed on tails but still did 20 damage
because of my weakness. My turn, I attached a DCE and did 60 damage to his
Flareon. Then his Flareon killed me next turn by doing 60 damage with
quick
attack. I brought out my Jynx, attached an energy, and did doubleslap.
The
coin landed on heads both times and I said bye-bye to Flareon. Next turn
he
brought out Articuno with 1 water energy on it. He attached a DCE and said
he
could use Articuno's first move, but I told him wrong because DCE doesn't
count as a basic energy. He agreed and attached a water energy instead and
couldn't do anything. I attached an energy to Jynx and did 10 damage to
him
with doubleslap. He didn't have any energies the turn after. I
attached
another energy to Jynx and used meditate for 30 damage. His turn. He
still
didn't have any energy so I finished him off with Meditate. He got no
other
basics that game. He was also a bad sport about it. He went around
complaining that my Scyther was cheap (haha!).
Wins: 2, Losses: 0
Round 3
Me vs. little brat with rainbow-colored charizard deck
This was a spoiled kid with 4 charizards, 4 machamps, 4 venusaurs, and 4
blastoises in his deck. He also had NO trainers in his deck at all.
Somehow
he got charizard out by the second turn. No problem. I won the flip
and
started with dratini. I attached a DCE and used pound for 10. His
turn. He
attached a grass energy to charizard and then while I wasn't looking he
attached another. He thought I was stupid so I just figured I'd teach him
a
lesson. I evolved my Dratini into Dragonair and attached a DCE and used
Hyper
Beam. His turn. He attached an energy to charizard but I countered
it with
another hyper beam. The next turn he didn't have any energies so I just
hyper
beamed him again (now he had an energyless charizard). His turn. He
still
didn't have any energies so I just used slam and did 60 damage to him.
Bye-bye Charizard. Next he brought out Machamp and didn't have any energy
so
I easily killed it with Jynx.
Wins: 3, Losses: 0
Round 4
Me vs. My best friend Eric again
He won the flip. He started with Lapras and I started with Tauros.
He
attached a water energy and did 10 damage to my Tauros. I attached a DCE
and
used Stomp. The coin landed on heads and did 30 damage to him. He
didn't
have any energies that turn so I did stomp again for another 30 (yes!!).
He
finally got an energy and confused me with Lapras (oh man!!!) Luckily I
had a
switch in my hand so I brought out Jynx and attached an energy and flipped
heads two times and killed his Lapras (My lucky day!). He brought out
Fossil
Magmar attached an energy and used smokescreen. I attached an energy to
Jynx
and tried to use doubleslap but it failed. He attached another energy and
did
20 damage but didn't poison. I attached an energy and used meditate.
He did
smog again for 20 but still didn't poison. I used meditate again and did
30
damage. He then took out Jynx. I brought out Tauros again and
finished off
Magmar. I won!
Wins: 4, Losses: 0
Wow. My first day I ever went undefeated. I'll be making new
versions of my
deck a lot so look fore more Sword Dancer tourney reports. Now for the
PROPS
and SLOPS:
PROPS to Toys R Us for holding another great PKMN League
PROPS to Eric for being a good sport about it
PROPS to the Gym Leader for giving everyone like 8 Mews
SLOPS to the kid with the water/fire deck (round 2) who was such a bad sport
SLOPS to the little spoiled kid who cheated
Until next time!
