Been a while huh? Well
this would be my first deck report for about a month now, sorry about that
guys, but I have been really busy not only with me starting to play Magic, but
with school and such to. That past few tournaments were really no
brainers, I won 2 and placed 2nd in another, *ouch* that's gonna hurt my
rating (2048).
I have officially retired from
using ANY Popourri style decks, about a month ago I saw a deck called InSaNiTy
and started to build about 10 different decks around that theme. I
really like this theme, it is sheer ---SpEeD---, the two I really like is my
varient using Wigglytuff and my Varient using Promo Mewtwo. I talked to
Scott Gernhart a little bit on this topic, but never got to finish and now
when I visit the Pojo (First time since last month). I see Scott's new
Sponge deck, almost the same as my thinking (I guess great players think alike
:). Anyways I have two deck lists for you this time, both of them are
still not complete however I'm having a heck of a time making them the way I
want them.
Bad Dog Wiggly.dec
Pokemon: 14
4x Jigglypuff
3x Wigglytuff
4x Hitmonchan
3x Electabuzz
Energy: 17
4x D.C.E.
5x Lighting
8x Fighting
Trainer: 29
4x Bill
4x Oak
3x Comp. Search
3x Item Finder
4x Energy Removal
4x Plus Power
3x Scoop Up
4x Gust of Wind
This is one of my first varients of InSaNiTy, this
deck really enjoys, 2nd turn kills, and even first kills...If you got your
opponent with one basic, safe to say you will win...Like I said this deck is
not exactly what I call high-tech yet...Still needs a little fixing, what I
really like though is the abilty to crush any 70 Hp bad boy, on a good day
that is. (E.R. and S.E.R. hurt the team)
Second deck...
I call it Stompy, Scott calls it Sponge, call it
what you want
Stompy.dec
Pokemon: 10
4x Promo Mewtwo
4x Electabuzz
2x Mew, Ditto (Explaination after deck list)
Energy: 16
3x D.C.E. (If Ditto, If Mew add it to the Psy.
Energy Count)
7x Psychic
6x Lighting

4x Bill
4x Oak
4x Energy Removal
3x Scoop Up
3x Gust of Wind
3x Pluspower
3x Item Finder
3x Comp. Search
3x Energy Retrieval
2x Lass
2x Mr. Fugi
That's it, I really like this
deck, again nothing set it stone, dropped S.E.R., it was just to slow, good
card for Potpourri not for InSaNiTy though, Lass that is card, this can
completely offset a game, risky, but well worth it...Let me Explain, it knocks
out your trainers and your oppoenents, sometimes it is apparent that your
opponent, next turn well gain control of the game. A Prof. Oak usually
tips the favour when I play against my friends, since a quick kill is usually
happening games I play last a few turns. Lass helps gain control, it is
even better when you use if you play all your trainers from your hand...I just
love this card, it has so many uses, mainly the reason above, but filling your
deck up isn't to bad every once in a while, but I wouldn't depend on it since
having trainers in your hand is slim....Ya use them all up!
That's it, I may as well tell
you my most recent tournament outcome at Deja Vu...
Round 1-VS Alex R. with Hot Jalapeno Potpourri
Quick kill is coming, I gain
control fast with a massive card advantange flood, knocking Pokemon on his
side at a average rate of 1.5 Pokemon/Turn is not good for him. It is
soon over, I gained to much control to fast, all the right trainers for the
perfect moment were always in my hand, or in a very easy way to retrieve them.
Record: 1-0
Round 2-VS Brain B. with My deck
Brian Is playing my Turbo
Wiggly deck, No use for him he gets Hitmonchans, and I get Mewtwos, its over
in a hurry. If he would have drawn a better hand things may ahve been
different, the first 2 kills was all it took and I was in complete control.
He attempted to slow things down with a Jigglypuff, but my deck manipulation
abilities were too much, I was able to get like all 3 Gust of Winds in my hand
at one point...
Record: 2-0
Round 3-VS Mike S. with Potpourri
Mike has been having bad
turnouts for like the past 4 weeks, oh boy, same story here...I get the beats
rolling early on his Electabuzz, then a Hitmonchan. He is able to match
my speed for a few turns and we are tied up at 4 prizes. I decide to
break this and go foward, bring my deck size to a small amount I begin to work
in a hurry setting up tricks, and disrupting his game plan I pulled away
getting my 4 prizes, again deck manipulation was key, for he wasn't able to
draw anything worthwhile...
Record: 3-0
Round 4- VS Ryan L. with a Purple/Green
I helped him out a little earlier, lending him
some bills, oaks and such... I still have to get them back from him...
His deck is not all that great, as I expected a
quick kill was at hand although a Likitung really got annoying and delayed me
2 whole turns, which is quite a bit for this deck...Once Likitung was out of
the way, Drowzee's and Scythers were no problem.
Record: 4-0
Round 5- VS Mike R. with Psychic/Water
Indeed a Psychic deck, Mewtwo
is gonna be happy, which is exactly what I went for...he gets him self in a
lock, by drawing one card per turn, however he kept on topdecking energy to
eventually kill one my guys, he attempts to use Mr. Mime to gain control but a
Gust of Wind and Energy Removal fixes him up. I take everything I can
with Mewtwo, and bring in Electabuzz to take out the pesky Likitungs who never
flipped heads and the Mr. Mimes.
Record: 5-0
This week was a real easy week,
Unfortunatly less participants are coming to Deja Vu these days, which is
a pity. Ah well, it seems like there are more Magic players then Pokemon
players, which is odd when compared to other cities....well that's all I have
to say, but I would suggest that anyone who hasn't played Magic, learn!
It is so fun!
Ryan Truong - 3rd Global, going number #1

you to it. *grin* -Scott>
