On to the matches!
Game 1: vs. a kid w/ a colorless deck
This game was one of my tougher ones, but it was no
problem. I got a bad start by getting a mulligan. I redrew and ended up with
hitmonchan out and a farfetch'd on my bench. he started and put an energy on
spearow which was his only basic and used peck. I attached a fighting
energy to chan & used jab with no effect. He drew a pidgey and
attached an energy to it. He used peck again for another 10 damage.
after a couple more turns and 2 potions chan was fully powered and slowly beat
up spearow. After that my hitmonchan basically just plowed straight
through them. a couple well placed energy removals and super potions sent
his deck packing.
Win 1-0 for 20 points
Game 2: a kid w/ a grass deck
This game was the shortest one I had ever played, I got a godly hand: scyther,
farfetch'd, grass energy x2, DCE, gust of wind and a switch. He only had a
tangela. I went first and attached a grass to scyther using swords dance.
He attached grass to tangela. I attached a double colorless and slash for
60, the KO, and the win! that was way to fast for my liking but I'll take
it.
Win 2-0 for 40 points
Game 3: vs. an adult Cub scout leader w/ a water/fighting deck
This game was lopsided because I got another good hand.
My scyther just tore through his many poliwags and squirtles but he ended up
stalling with an Eevee for quite a while. I eventually switched a Tauros
in and stomped my way to victory.
Win 3-0 for 60 points
Game 4: vs the same guy but w/ a starter deck.
This time he used a starrter deck but he wasn't able
to get a lot of bench support other than machops. I got a Tauros out first
and was able to keep them at bay by using energy removals and potions.
once Tauros was charged I used all the damage on him and went on a rampage
(quite literally) and plowed through his energyless Pokemon.
Win 4-0 for 80 Points
Game 5: vs. an Adult w/ a cool Haymaker variant
This guy had a pretty good looking deck. I started
with a mulligan but got luck because he was not in a great energy situation, so
my energy removals were pretty devastating. I had a Ryhorn against his Gastly
but I was eventually able to pull Ryhorn out of the way. I used scyther & a
gust of wind to take down a Pikachu and then I pulled back my badly battered
scyther and sent out a tauros who mowed throught the remaining psychic guys.
Win 5-0 for 100 Points!
My deck shined today and when the dust settled I realized that I lost a total of 1 prize. I'd say that's pretty good. The gym leader Gave me and the others there a Promo Mew and a Promo Pikachu! Alright!
