There was a tournament of about 30 people at a local card shop here in
Wichita Falls, TX at Pegasus Loft on February 12. There were alot of
people
that were just there to be there i think, not really wanting to win. But
then there were some that really wanted to win. Anyway, here's the deck
that
i used in the tournament, i call it Energy Beam
Pokemon (14)
4 Dratini
4 Dragonair
3 Dragonite
4 Movie Mewtwo
Trainers (21)
2 Professor Oak
2 Pokemon Trader
4 Bill
2 Computer Search
4 Energy Removal
2 Super Energy Removal
3 Energy Retrieval
2 Gust of Wind
Energy (25)
4 Double Colorless
21 Psychic Energy
Here's how the tournament went:
First Round: Me vs. Chris (Alakazam/tentacool/mime deck)
I had a decent starting hand of 1 mewtwo, a dratini, a dragonair, a double
colorless, computer search, 2 psychic energy. I sent out dratini because
of
resistance to psychic since i knew what chris was playing. I soon had him
evolved and was hyper beaming away at everything he put out, until he got
mime, alakazam, and tentacool out. I gusted his kazam out and hit it with
psyburn after retreating dragonair and obtained my last prize
Record 1-0
Second Round: vs. some really little kid (fire and colorless deck)
I knew i could win if i got dragonair out, considering the heavy discarding
fire of his deck. I had to use comp search and a trader to finally get him
out, but once i did it was pretty much over, he tried attaching energies to
moltres, but i gusted him out, sent out a dragonite and got lucky with a slam
for 80, which finished off him for the most part, because he didn't have
enough energy for anything else
Record 2-0
Third Round: vs. Haymaker kid
I was worried but i drew a good opening hand, 2 movie mewtwo, 3 psychic
energy, oak, and dratini. I started mewtwo and attached, then oaked and
energy absorbed, while he used hitmonchan, then i killed it with psyburn and
he was out of basics.
Record 3-0
Fourth Round: vs. Paul (grass and flying)
I started with a few dratini and a dragonair, with 3 double colorless. He
started with scyther with spearow on the bench. I got my dragonair powered
for hyper beam as quick as possible and made his scyther helpless, so when he
brought in fearow and used agility it didn't work, that's all i needed, a
hyper beam to his double colorless and it was over from there, he ran out of
basics after i killed the fearow.
Record 4-0
Semi Finals: vs. Alex (Fire and Fighting)
I had to start with mewtwo, and he had to start with machop, i quickly killed
the machop because of computer searching the 2 energies for absorbtion, He
had to send out his hitmonlee, but he gusted in my other mewtwo, and i had to
slowly attach energy to him in order to kill his hitmonlee. He got a
charizard out, but by then i had dragonair ready with hyper beam, keeping the
dragon to do nothing except cry, finished off the charizard for the win.
Record 5-0
Finals vs. Chris again (same deck)
To start off i had dratini, dragonair, 2 double colorless, and a few psy
energy. As he would later go on to tell me he had mime, 2 tentacools, and
the entire kazam family in his hand. It went back and forth, hyper beam,
damage swap, cowardice, hyper beam, damage swap, cowardice. I never drew a
single card unless it was at the beginning of my turn, hoping he would deck
before me. Finally after about an hour of agonizing attacking, swapping,
and
being a coward, he finally deck, i had one card left. I later found out
both
of my gusts were in my prizes.
Record 6-0 tournament champion
Prize was a $50 credit to Pegasus Loft.
Japanese cards were allowed, but i did not use any
