Tournament Report: Rama Llama Comics: 2.13.00

 

Another tournament report yay! My girlfriend is grounded, so that is why I was able to attend this week's DCI Sanctioned tournament at Rama Llama Comics in Plano, Texas. Only 30+ people showed up this time, so we played three rounds of Swiss, which then went to final Four. <A couple of notes: the tourney lasts less than 4 hours (1-5), and the Jigglypuff promo is legal (although no one used him)>.

This deck is a Sponge variation. I changed it to run faster, and took out some cards that I thought didn't really help (I'm still not sold on Gambler). The result is a fast Sponge, which is never hurting for energy (even after taking out Retrieval).

Round 1 vs. Nick w/ Raindance

Nick won a tourney at some other store the day before. I started with 2 Buzz, and he with 2 Squitle. I killed them, and then 2 Lapras. I promote a Mewtwo to kill and Arctuno and a 3^rd Squitle. I never used an Oak, and didn't lose a Pokèmon.

Round 2 vs. Kevin w/ Sponge

This was Kevin's first time at Rama Llama. I mulligan 3 times (man!), and the game begins Mewtwo vs. Mewtwo. I get first prize, Mewtwos are killed, and I promote Ditto vs. Mewtwo for the win.

Round 3 vs. Mitch w/ wiggly variant using Mewtwo

Mitch is a regular at Rama Llama. The deck he was playing was something I had thought about a couple weeks ago. This game, it was all Mewtwo and Electabuzz. At one point he had 3 Jigglys on the bench, but no Wigglys due to two early (first turn) Oaks. I never lost a Pokèmon.

Finals

Round 1 vs. Kevin w/ Sponge (again)

This time Kevin gets the win. It was a trade off, and at my best I had 3 prizes left, and he had one Pokèmon left. I had the game tied up until Mew pops out and destroys me. All I had was Dittos and Mewtwos in play! Great rematch though. Hope to see you next week!

That was it for me. I got 3^rd place, Kevin got 2^nd, and Scott won. I had a great time, and will be preparing for the anti-Sponge I heard would be around next week!
