Yo PoJo! Zak Dube here again, reporting on G.U.'s tournament this weekend
(exact date: Jan., Sat. 15, 2000)! Yes, G.U. is Games Unique, which hasn't
had a tournament for a while. Well, this is in Austin, Texas. About 12
people showed up, everyone's been held up from a tournament for a while, and
they look ready to battle. 3 rounds, best record wins! Wow! This is an
all-new deck feature for me: I don't believe I've ever made an all Grass
deck, reported on PoJo or not! Well, here is my deck, "Death by Status
Effects!"

Well, here we go!
Round 1: What's-his-name w/ the Fire and Psy deck!!!
Oh great. This is just - oh great. "There's so many Grass decks out there,
and this will beat" me!! Things don't look very good when I see my hand,
either: Nidoran M and Weedle. No matter what he has I could be dead. I put
out Weedle, because at least it is certain to do damage. He has out Abra,
and I go first. I place a G on Weedle and Sting.. with heads! At the end of
his turn, Abra's gone, and he has no basics. Lucky for me! If I got that
same coin flip one either Pokemon, I would've won anyways.
Record: 1-0

Round 2: Trevor w/ Freezing Rain or whatever... it was in the January
magazine of PoJo under Killer Decks...
Well, Trevor read your maganize in January, PoJo, and decided to build one!
Well, Articuno was his basic, I got god hand of Weedle, Nidoran, Nidorino,
Breeder, Beedrill, 2 G energy. I poison Articuno first turn, and it's almost
dead by my third turn. So I just evolve to Beedrill, and of course I drew a
third G, I put it on a destroy Articuno. He didn't bother pumping it up. And
then, I can't remember if this was actually in the deck list or if he
actually tweaked the deck up a little, he sent out Gyarados, which gets
clobbered. Then a Magikarp, Squirtle and Wartortle all go down. But then:
Blastoise. He Bills twice, Rain Dances to get Blastoise full-pumped and
almost destroys Beedrill... I Switch Beedrill for Nidoking, and Toxic.
Nidoking gets damaged badly too, but not before taking down Blastoise for my
last prize. I win after the toughest battle I ever had with Trevor.
Record: 2-0
Round 3: Kevin(?!?!?!) w/ Prehistoric Peril (however you spell it) deck?!
For those of you who don't know, Kevin is my bro! How'd he get in here
without me noticing?! Well, I started with Weedle, Kakuna, Ekans, 3 G energy
and Bill. I send out Ekans, he sends out Mysterious Fossil and wins the coin
flip. Evolves to Aerodactyl, thinking I'm stupid enough to actually use
Arbok in my deck. Aerodactyl goes down by Wrap, and Ditto comes out. I beat
it becuase he had no energy the first turn Ditto was out, so I paralyzed him
then Poisoned him. A Grimer comes out, paralyzing Ekans. I got Switch and
Switch for full-pumped Kakuna. Poison Grimer, then it paralyzes me. I evolve
to Beedrill (luckily I drew another Bill to do so) and play energy, and kill
Grimer. Muk dies, Aero dies and Ditto dies... sad deck, I'm sorry to say...
Only 14 Pokemon, and only 8 Basics (unless you count fossils, then 18
Pokemon/12 Basics) My bro must have been using someone else's deck =)
Record: 3-0

It's only really 6 people in the end, because 6 spoiled little brats had to
go somewhere wit their moms. Oh well, I ended up with the best record, my
bro had to do a couple Sudden Death games to get second. I won 16 Base
boosters, my bro won 8 Base and third also won 8 Base. Electrode, Dragonair,
Mewtwo, Venusaur, Gyarados, Nidoking, SER, Doll, Breeder, Trader, Blastoise,
Electabuzz, Scoop, 'nother Trader, 'nother Scoop, Charizard, just to name a
few or maybe all. Short tournament. Well, hopefully they'll have one next
week PoJo!
