I participated in a tournament at Jersey Shore Hobby Center, in Wall,
New Jersey. It was on January 21, 2000, down stairs in the gameroom
specially geared for Pokémon and other TCGs. It was a Pokémon League
tornament, but was not DCI sanctioned. 21 people participated, and entry
fee was 5 bucks, but everyone got an original booster at the end just
for participating. There was no elimination, everyone played all five
games exept in the event of a bye. Now on to the deck:

       Aero-maker

Pokémon:
4x Hitmonchan
2x Hitmonlee
4x Electabuzz
3x Scyther
2x Aerodactyl

Trainers:
3x Bill
3x Prof. Oak
3x PlusPower
3x Gust of Wind
3x Mys. Fossil
2x Sup. Energy Removal
1x Scoop Up

Energy:

14x Fighting Energy
11x Electric Energy
2x Double Colorless Energy

The overall strategy is to play normal haymaker-style until Aerodactyl
hits the board, and then destroy early evolutions and puny basics. Bills
and Oaks speed up the process, and everything else in there is haymaker
necessity. Now on to the main event!

(Ding Ding Ding!!)

Round 1: Me vs. Matt Edick

Matt was previously one of the best players here, but he was trying out
his new Fighting/Water deck. He starts with Squirtle, I start with
Scyther. I proceed to wreck his Rhyhorns, Squirtles, and Staryus. He
almost managed to power up an Articuno, but I Gust it out and kill it in
2 turns with a plus-powered Scyther. He didn't get an evolution off the
whole game. WIN, 1-0, tied for 1st.

Round 2: Me vs. Eric

Eric's been here a while, but he just can't seem to put together a decnt
deck. Today, he went Grass/Water. This was pretty much a repeat of last
game, just replace the Rhyhorns with Bulbasaurs. Again, I plow right
through. For a second, he had me with a fully powered Pinsir. He even
managed to kill a Hitmonchan. I come right back with Hitmonlee to High
Jump Kick for the win. 'Dactyl just sat on the bench the whole time.
WIN, 2-0, tied for 2nd.

Round 3: Me vs. Anthony

It was down to 6 people who were undefeated. I played one of them. I
don't know much about this kid. I just couldn't belive how far he got
with this Fire/Psychic deck. He plays Abras, Drowzees, and Gastly. He
starts Drowzee, me Electabuzz. I proceed to FINALLY get Aerodactyl out
early in a battle. After that, it was no contest. I could tell he had
Kadabra and Alakazam in his hand and it was driving him INSANE. He
actually did mamge to kill a hitmoncan on some lucky Psyshock flips. But
it was no contest. He didn't stand a chance against Electabuzz and
Scyther. He ends up running out of energy and I kill some more Psychic
basics for the win. Finally, Aerodactyl does something! WIN, 3-0, 1st!!

Round 4: Me vs. Chris Arensdorf

Chris is a really cool kid who has this awesome Fighting/Psychic which
has NEVER lost. Everytime we get close to having a deck he can't beat,
he meatagames that deck. This has led him to have created one of the
best decks in the tournament ennviroment. His starting hand was
suprisingly unlucky. All the had was machop. I get ELECTABUZZ, OF ALL
PEOPLE. Luckily, I also get a Fossil and I Oak for an Aerodactyl. By the
time Electabuzz died, 'Dactyl was fully powered and he had a Diglett on
his bench. I manage to kill the Machop, and get a Hitmonlee as a prize.
He does 20 dam. to me with Mud Slap and two PlusPower. I start charging
up hitmonlee, but stop when I get an Electabuzz. He puts Chansey on his
bench, and stalls for a while with some well-used energy removal and
potions. He finishes powering up Chansey as I finally kill diglett.
Double Edge-goodbye 'Dacty. I send out Hitmonlee-stretch kick to benched
Abra. He breeders into Alakazam, and swaps Chansey's damage away to the
Diglett, Alakazam, and Ditto on his bench. Double Edge-Goodbye
Hitmonlee! I send out Buzz. Here is where I make my critical error- I
use my SER on DITTO thinking I can kill Chansey with thundershock and
PlusPower!! It turns out I can't, and he swaps and Double edges for the
win. LOSS, 3-1, 3rd.

Round 5: Me vs. Bill Neil

Bill is a pretty cool kid who is always experimenting with decks that
aren't commonly used around here. Today he's playing A Turbo Blastoise
deck, not to be confused with a Raindance. Raindance is pretty much
where you use Blastoise to charge up Gyrados, Articuno, Lapras, etc.,
where in a Turbo Blastoise the goal is to breeder into Blastoise by the
2nd turn and Raindance energy onto HIM. But enough rambling. onto the
battle. This was the fight for 2nd place. He had also lost to Chris, but
his battle was considerably closer than mine. Whoever won this battle
got 2nd, while the loser got 5th-6th. The battle was pretty much decided
before it begun. He was so concerned about my Aerodactyls ruining his
deck that he forgot sbout another card: ELECTABUZZ. Anyway, he starts
with Poliwag, me, Scyther. He gets out Blastoise the 3rd turn.
Meanwhile, I got 2 benched Electabuzz. I thundershock Poliwag,
paralyzing. He does nothing. Next turn, I Gust out Blastoise, thunder
shocking for 20, no paralyis. He Hydro Pumps for 50. I retreat Buzz and
send out my other Buzz, fully charged. I Thunderpunch for 80, killing
Blastoise. He sends out Poliwag, no bench, and evolves to Poliwhirl.
Still no energy. I thunderpunch for 30. He still gets nothing, so I
Thunderpunch for the win. WIN, 4-1, 2nd Place!!

I won 3 original boosters and a $20.00 store credit. I got Imposoter
Prof. Oak, Clefairy Doll, and Poliwrath.

That's my report. If you have any questions, suggestions, or hate mail,
send them to Tyo at tyle@earthlink.net. See ya!!
