Deck Information
I have entered this deck in more than 10 tournaments of 15-25 people at
Al's card store in Edmond, Oklahoma, and have either taken 1st or 2nd
every time. I tried to counter the Haymaker, The Magmaker, and the
Mewmaker (Sponge) deck all at once. At the tournaments I enter you see
about 4 of each of those decks. The main idea of this deck is to not get
knocked out while taking as many prizes as possible. Get Ecolo out and
start attaching steel energies to Onix who 2nd turn will be Haganeru.
Computer search or professor oak to get needed cards. Energy removals
are practically worthless since steel energy goes back to your hand with ecolo,
but I put 2 in for Double Colorless Energy. Another nice thing is Onix
is weak to grass, luring out Scythers, and then evolving into Haganeru with
resistance to grass. Don't worry about having 4 basic pokemon, the idea
is eventually let them knock out 1 Haganeru just to have you put out a second
one right away. The deck gets its name by it has beaten decks that have
finished Pokemon League badge book which has a total of 800 points
maximum. Enough idle chat, to the battles!
All series are 2 out of 3. Tournament of June 29, 2000. Tournament size 15
people.
Series 1: Cody, I battled a magmaker crossed with some evil energies.
He couldn't do anything to my Haganeru until he got his Nyura. He
proceeded to knock out my 1st Haganeru while I got my 2nd one charged and
took all my prizes for the win. Similar story game 2.
2-0
Series 2: Adam, The best Mewmaker (sponge) there. 1st game he
kept energy removing me while countering my ecolos with his own stadium cards.
The 2nd game was different. I got fed up with him and put down the
confusion gym to where all he could do is lose. The 3rd game was very
close, I would have won except his ditto killed me. Where were my Goop
gas Attacks?
3-2
Series 3: Devin, Another annoying magmaker. This guy tried
removing me but I kept attaching my steel energy and he eventually ran out of
removals so I proceeded to take all of my prizes and won. Similar story
game 2.
5-2
With my 5-2 record I qualified for the final 8 as the number 5 seed.
Series 4 (Quarterfinals): Michael, a steel deck, who tried to copy
me. The first game was simple we both had a Haganeru with 4 Steel
energies attached. Neither could take a prize as we kept attaching
golden nuts. I had more gamblers and item finders so he decked after
about 45 minutes. Game 2 was just dumb. I had an Onix and attached
2 fighting energies and 3 steel energies just using harden the whole game.
I was going to deck him again, but he just decided to forfeit rather than go
through all that again.
7-2
Series 5 (Semifinals): Adam, again. Our 1st game was the triumph
of the confusion gym. His trainers were useless as I took all my prizes
unchallenged. Our second game I tried to repeat,
but his stadium countered my ecolo for some quick KO's. The 3rd game was
a long fought out battle with at the end a ditto versus a Haganeru. I
had confusion gym out quickly and was trying to put 10 damage on his ditto
with what then became 4 steel energies. I finally did, about the
5th time. Then I put out Bellsprout Temple so I could use my Goop Gas
Attack and a Plus Power for the win over the #1
seed.
9-3
Series 6 (Finals): Josh, a wildfire deck, for those who don't know it
only attacks using Chancey's scrunch and Moltres's Wildfire to deck the
opponent. He just decided to forfeit after he had seen my "defeat"
over Michael. He realized he wasn't going to deck me which would make a
stall deck useless anyway.
11-3
