5/27/00
I got to the Pokemon League around 9:40 AM and there were about 20 people
before the tournament began. Single Elimination and all cards have to look
the same on the back. Japanese cards are only allowed if they are already
printed in english and are in plastic covers so that all cards look the same.
I used my Hydro Dancing deck AKA Raindance. I use 2 Wartortles and 4
Breeders in case I can't get a Breeder, in case of Dark Vileplume, in case of
Mew, and in case I need to discard 1 or 2 breeders.
Total Pokemon - 15
2 Squirtle (Base)
2 Squirtle (Rocket)
2 Wartortle
3 Blastoise
1 Dark Blastoise
3 Articuno
2 Lapras
Trainers - 22
4 Professor Oak
4 Bill
4 Pokemon Breeder
2 Pokemon Trader
2 Computer Search
2 Switch
2 Gust Of Wind
2 Nightly Garbage Run
23 Water Energy
Round One
I played against a man around 30-35. He was using a deck that included
Wigglytuff, Magmar, and Electabuzz. It was a good game and not short.
His
Wigglytuff only got to do 30 to me before I knocked it out with Blastoise.
Electabuzz didn't get to do much to me, I thought he might have been able to
use Electabuzz to win but he seemed to have energy problems with Lightning
energy.
1-0
Round Two
I played against a kid around 13. He had a deck with Psychic and Grass.
Pretty tough game. Started out with Scyther and a benched Scyther. I
had
Lapras and Articuno. He attached a grass and Swords Danced. I did 10
with
Lapras and then he attached a psychic energy and Swords danced again. I
attached another Water to Lapras and flipped Heads for Confuse Ray. He
attached a Full Heal Energy and slashed my Lapras for 60. Later in the
game,
I got out 2 Blastoise and a Dark Blastoise, along with another Lapras and
Articuno. I used Nightly Garbage Run twice. I used Dark Blastoise
with 4
energy and gusted out Scyther to knock it out for 70. Near the end, I
switched my Asleep Blastoise with Dark Blastoise including 3 energy against
Fossil Haunter. Hydro Cannon failed for a few turns and I finally won with
Hydro Cannon for 50 working on Haunter. I was lucky since I only had 4
cards
in my deck left.
2-0
Round Three
I played a kid with Colorless and Psychic. He had Spearow active and Jynx
benched. Retreated Spearow and used Doubleslap to do 10 to my Rocket
Squirtle. I attached a water energy on Squirtle as I had a Blastoise and
breeder in my hand. Near the end of the game, he had a fossil Haunter and
I
managed to knock it out in 2 or 3 turns.
3-0
Round Four - Semi-Finals
Against a kid that I think was using Potpourri. He had 3 or 4 different
energy. Spearow active and Meowth benched along with a few others. I
had a
hard time since I wasn't getting any Bills or Oaks and he was damaging all of
my Pokemon. I finally got Bills and Oak. I managed to quickly knock
out his
Pokemon, including a Persian which was stalling with Pounce, and won with my
prizes all gone.
4-0
Round Five - Finals
Against a kid who had one of the worst decks to play if you have a Raindance
like mine. He had 4 Electabuzz, a few Scyther, Lickitung, and possibly
some
others. I managed to pick up one prize and noticed it was 12:50 PM already
and I had to leave already. He won since I couldn't play the whole battle,
but I'm sure he would have won either way because of Electabuzz.
4-1
The prizes for the winner were 3 Unlimited Edition Booster Packs of their
choice (Base, Base 2, Jungle, Fossil, and Rocket). They also got a bunch
of
promo cards - Prerelease Gyarados, Prerelease Aerodactyl, a Base Set Trainer
Deck A card (either a Pokemon or a Trainer card, but not Rare, with Red
printing on the back of the card) that the Gym Leaders got, Computer Error, 2
Mew #8, Holo Mew #9, pretty much every promo that is at the league now except
for the Prerelease Clefable. They also get a Mew for the Game Boy and a
personalized Pokemon binder with 151 Pokemon, their name, and who they
played. If you already won a tournament before, then you get everything
but
the binder. I've won the tournament once so when I win, I will get all of
the prizes but the binder.
If you have any suggestions or recommendations on how to improve my deck to
beat Electabuzz, please feel free to e-mail me.
