Warning: The following deck is to only be played by EXPERIENCED PLAYERS
Do not copy the deck hereafter if you don't know what you're doing...
You have been warned...
I'm still trying to find a use for the rocket set. This is what I was
thinking while reconfigureing a ElectaMar-Maker. I still don't have
much use for the pokemon... but the trainers! I didn't use much from
rocket... I only wanted a nightly garbage run. So how does an average
ElectaMar-Maker transform into the vile Kryptonite, Quasi-Anti-Haymaker?
Simple: Mewtwo replaces Electabuzz. Hitmonchan bites the dust...
Main strategy: There's only one strategy involved: Stall with magmar
and power Mewtwo and Scyther. Even use magmar and his status effects in
your battle strategy! One point is to waste as little anergy as possible.
This means use scyther if you feel you'll have to retreat or add the extra
energy to magmar if you're playing against energy denial. I added
Nightly Garbage Run and energy retrevial.
Cards:
Pokemon:
4x Scyther <See your local issue of pojo for this one, kiddies>
4x F. Magmar <Stall and great attacks, low retreat and the 70 hp>
4x Promo Mewtwo <He is the Kryptonite... see hitmonchan die. die
hitmonchan, die.>
Trainers:
4x E.R. <Must have in almost every deck>
4x SER <The sequal to ER>
4x GOW <See that hitmonchan powering up on the bench? it dies now...>
2x NGR <Gets anything knocked out or energy back. A recycle that doesn't
suck>
4x Scoop Up <Just when you thought you were about to get knocked out>
2x Energy Retrevial <Gets energy back, only in your hand>
Energy:
4x DCE <Only for scyther and quick retreat>
9x Psy Energy <I think you need it for mewtwo...>
11x Fire Energy <And isn't there a magmar in this too?>
So how'd I do? Read on!
Round one: Vs. Younger Kid(I didn't know his name)<Haymaker>
Round one was a sinch. The deck was designed to destroy most other
haymakers, so you can guess how it went. I drew all 6 prizes after
using magmar and mewtwo to shred through his Pokemon.
1-0
Round two: Vs. Steve Teminskie<Haymaker /w Mewtwo>
The younger brother. I've now gained the advantage over him. I've never
lost to him at a tourny, and this wasn't an exception. I bombarded him
with energy removal and heavy attacks from my Magmar, always poisoning.
He later complained about my coin flipping, which was ignored. He lost.
2-0(Whiners never win)
Round three: Vs. Jim T.<Metrenome-maker>
I had to face his brother this time, not playing his messed up cleaner.
I listlessly went through an energy shortage and only got energy to
attack just before he used a Pokecenter and knocked me out. I was still
mellow, it was a good, annoying, brain nagging, gnaw your arm off game.
2-1
Round four: Vs. Alex Teeves<Haymaker>
I finally faced THE ORIGIONAL HAYMAKER STYLE DECK, using hitmonlee,
scyther, hitmonchan, and electabuzz. It was fun watching him rythe in
agony as I kept energy removal-ing his electabuzzes and psyburn/smog
(with poison) everything that tried to attack. He got one kill off my
magmar in the beginning though, but I had all prizes drawn.
3-1
I was annoyed to find that they downsized the number of rounds to 4
for the same $5 price. For some odd reason, I didn't get 3rd, even
though I had the same win record as another kid there. We should have
faught for 3rd, but we didn't and he got it. I was really bitter
afterward. but I went next door to the pizza place and everyone got
together and we formed a mini-tourny which I got to Judge at.
Not bad for a game the day after my Birthday.
