Day: May 13, 2000
Place: Pendragon
City: Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
Well, it was another usual day at the Pokemon League. I was getting
tired of my Arcanine's Wiggly Friend deck (see April Deck Reports), so I
made a new deck. It's a Wiggly Haymaker Variant, if you could call it a
haymaker. It's a Psychic/Electric deck called Thundering Wigglytuff.
Here's the deck.
THUNDERING WIGGLYTUFF
POKEMON(16)
4x Jigglypuff
3x Wigglytuff
3x Scyther
3x Electabuzz
3x Mewtwo (Movie Promo)
TRAINERS(27)
4x Bill
4x PlusPower
3x Professor Oak (4 is too much, I often find myself coming very close
to decking)
3x Computer Search
3x Scoop Up
3x Gust of Wind
2x Super Energy Removal
2x Lass (gets cards back into my deck if I'm running low, and eliminates
the Wigglytuff deck's worst threat; getting 2 Oaks in one hand!)
3x Nightly Garbage Run (reuse Wigglytuff, and get Energy back into my
deck if I need it)
ENERGY(17)
4x DCE
7x Psychic Energy
6x Electric Energy
Now, on to the report!
I'm becoming sort of famous there, especially for using Wigglytuff. I'm
the only one who uses them. Most kids here aren't smart, they look at
the 10+ damage on Wiggly, and say it's useless. Playing me has helped
them see how powerful the 80HP balloon can be. I didn't really say this,
but this deck is sort of designed to beat my arch-nemesis (only at
cards) Jonathon (Nikachu). I saw lots of Haymakers there.
Game 1
Thundering Wigglytuff vs. Gym Leader's Haymaker
Interesting note, me and the gym leader have the same name. I
find
that funny seeing how unusual it is. Anyways, I start with a Scyther,
and he has Chan and a Mysterious Fossil. Hah!
I go first and put DCE on Scyther, place my freshly drawn Mewtwo, and
pass. He energizes Hitmonchan, and passes (Jab does nothing). I put
Electric on Scyther, Slash for 30. He puts another energy on Chan, and
does nothing. I draw a Comp Search, put a Psychic on Mewtwo, and Search,
tossing a Psychic and Electric energy away (I was concerned that if he
got some Basics going, I'd run out of energy early on). I find a
PlusPower and Slash for the knock out. He draws, getting no basic, and
scraps the Fossil, giving me the win!
1-0
Well, I went to buy a Rocket booster after this, because people were
still showing up, with no real competition. I got a Dark Raichu in the
pack.
GAME 2
Thundering Wigglytuff vs. Rocket Poison deck
This is an okay poison deck constructed with Dark Muk, Dark
Arbok,
Dark Golbat, and Dark Dragonite (these kids like the Dragonair/Dragonite
Poke Power). I think he didn't realize the Psychic resistance of the
Dragon family, and the Psychic weakness of the Grass family, because he
made poor decisions throughout the match. Anyway, this match went quick,
as Mewtwo KOed the Poison types, and Wiggly took out the Dratini's (they
never got to evolve).
2-0
I then took on my arch-nemesis.
GAME 3
Thundering Wigglytuff vs. Perfectly Mastered Pokemon
This game was a very close one. It was the same situation as
the
previous week (I didn't write a report, but I needed one more prize,
until he gusted my energy less Arcanine and decked me (I had 3 cards
left anyway.)). I had 1 prize left to his 3, and it looked like I was
going to win due to decking. He KO'ed 2 of my benched Mewtwo's through a
Gust/Ditto combo. Late game, I had a Wigglytuff with one energy on it,
having none left in my deck (I had 3 cards left). He had 2 cards left.
He had an asleep Electabuzz at the promotion (all I could use was
Lullaby). It looked like I'd get the win, but he drew a Switch. He
switched for a Hitmonchan and Jabbed for the victory (my Tuff had 40 HP
left).
2-1
I was a bit upset as I was so close for the second time. Oh well, next
week.
GAME 4
Thundering Wigglytuff vs. Zapdos' Revenge
I named this deck, it was full of Base Zapdos, so I called it
what
it is. Anyways, I started with a lone Scyther, while he had a
Charmander, with another on the bench, and 2 Zapdos benched as well.
Yipes! Luckily, I was able to KO Charmander turn 2 with a couple
PlusPowers. He sent out a Zapdos (Bad move!), so he could power up
Charmeleon on the bench to beat my Scythers (I had another benched one
by now). I quickly beat Zapdos, and he sent out his other one (why?). I
SER'ed Charmeleon, and gusted it out, quickly KOing it. Then I beat up
Zapdos pretty badly, and benched him.
3-1
GAME 5
Thundering Wigglytuff vs. Gym Leader's Haymaker
I was again challenged by the gym leader. This game was a bit
more
close. Mewtwo helped me alot this game, because after Scyther got rid of
Buzz, all he had were Chans and Dittos left. I quickly beat up on the
Ditto's first, and then the Chans for the win.
4-1
GAME 6
Thundering Wigglytuff vs. Haymaker
Another haymaker! I almost lost this one, as I narrowly got
by with
one card left in my deck.
5-1
All in all, it was a good day. I picked up a Holo Dark Dugtrio as well
in another pack, which was OK, even though I don't want it.
PROPS
To Jonathon for a good fight
To the Dark Raichu I got!
To Lass for keeping me in there against Jon
To SER for helping me beat the Zapdos deck
To Professor Oak for allowing me to fill my bench with Basics!
SLOPS
To Switch for showing up in that game.
To the Devolution Spray I got in my Base Set pack
To me being too slow in getting through the 3rd season
To the stupid TM's you get for reaching points. I don't need a sticker
to tell me how many basics to put in a deck!
