May 11, 2000 with 24 Participants
Raleigh, North Carolina
Hey Pojo,
I participated in a tournament on May 11, 2000 with 24
other participants. There was a $10.00 entry fee. I went
with my friend Richard, and although we didn't know
anyone else there, since we drove down from Virginia, we
made friends real fast with other people, though.
Before the tournament I had to choose between four decks---
Psymaker with Movie Promo Mewtwo; Wiggly Cleaner with
Arcanine and Wigglytuff; Turbo Snorlax with Snorlax;
or my new deck idea: Third Eye with Rocket Alakazam and
Rocket Golduck as mainstay of the deck--- I chose
Third Eye, an all Team Rocket Deck because its fun to
play. Its all Team Rocket, even down to not having Energy
Removal, Bill, and Oak. Of course, it still had
energy from Base, but all decks have that so it is beside the point. My
friend also decided to play an all Team
Rocket deck, Liquid Push, which, of course, is an Anti -
Retreat deck using
Dark Dugtrio and Dark Muk in conjunction with each
other to form an Anti - Retreat deck. It also touches Rocket
Dratini line, without Dragonite, to pull Dark Dugtrio
and Dark Muk out of the deck without a problem. Anyway, here
is my deck, Third Eye.
Third Eye version 3.4
2x Rocket Porygon (Conversion
1 is great and Psybeam is above average; Psy resistance to boot)
4x Rocket Abra (much better than the
base set one. Same attack but a run away type attack)
4x Rocket Kadabra (Matter Exchange is a
great pokemon power; Mind Shock takes down Psy resistant pokemon)
3x Rocket Alakazam (Teleport Blast is a
great hit - and - run attack and Mind Shock gets around Chansey or
Wigglytuff)
4x Rocket Psyduck (Dizziness is
great; never lead with since there are no water energy for it to attack with)
3x Rocket Golduck (Third Eye
presents an awesome attack and Super Psy just wakes over fire pokemon; broken)
4x Nightly Garbage Run (in my opinion,
better than Bill. Retrieving cards from the discard is broken)
3x Goop Gas Attack (great for removing
Pokemon Power; stops Alakazam and Gengar from swapping damage)
4x The Boss' Way (essential in a Team
Rocket heavy deck like this. Grab that Rocket Golduck or Rocket Alakazam)
3x Digger (three Digger can take down that Nidoking with
Teleport Blast and swap Alakazam with a benched pokemon)
22x Psychic Energy (Provide
energy to attack with your pokemon. Why I bothered to explain it, I don't
know)
2x Double Colorless Energy
(Provide energy to attack with your pokemon. Why I bothered to
explain it, I don't know)
Round 1 Me with Third Eye <Dark Alakazam, Dark
Golduck> versus Mark with Haymaker <Electabuzz, Scyther, Hitmonchan>
I drew Rocket Abra, Rocket Kadabra, The Boss' Way,
Goop Gas Attack, and three Psychic Energy. I won the flip. I drew Rocket
Psyduck and benched it. I attached a Psychic Energy to Rocket Abra and
Paralyzed his active Scyther. He drew and attached a
Fighting energy to Scyther and passed. I drew a
Digger and evolved Rocket Abra into Rocket Kadabra. I attached a Psychic
to Rocket Kadabra and used Mind Shock for 30. He retreated Scyther for
Hitmonchan and used Jab for 20. I drew a Digger and used the Boss' Way to
grab Rocket Alakazam. I evolved Rocket Kadabra and used Teleport Blast with
the Digger. The coin flip is up and it is...heads! I kill off Hitmonchan and
have to send in Psyduck...He draws and attaches a double colorless energy and
uses Slash for 30. I attach an energy to Rocket Psyduck and retreat for Rocket
Alakazam and Teleport Blast to win.
Round 2 Me with Third Eye <Dark Alakazam,
Dark Golduck> versus Jonathan with Rain Dance <Blastoise, Dark
Blastoise>
I drew Rocket Porygon, Rocket Kadabra, Rocket
Golduck, Goop Gas Attack, Double Colorless Energy, and two Psychic Energy. I
won the flip. He had an active Kangaskhan with no bench. I drew Rocket Psyduck
and placed it on my bench. I attached a Psychic Energy to Porygon and
used Conversion 1 and changed Kangaskhan's weakness to water. He
attached a Water energy and used Fetch. I drew a Rocket Alakazam and attached
a Psychic to Rocket Psyduck and passed. He attached a Water energy and used
Fetch. I drew a Digger and attached a Psychic to Rocket Psyduck and passed. He
used Bill, but still no basics. He wasn't worried yet, but should be. I drew a
Digger and attached a Double Colorless Energy to Rocket Psyduck and evolved
him into Rocket Golduck. I retreated Rocket Porygon for free and used Super Psy
for the win because of changing Kangaskhan's weakness to water.
Round 3 Me with Third Eye <Dark Alakazam, Dark
Golduck> versus Ben with Turbo Snorlax <Snorlax, Dark Gloom, TR
Drowzee>
Exact copy of my deck. He is always taking my deck
ideas and using them, with no distinctions between them. Highly annoying. I
drew Dark Abra, Dark Kadabra, Dark Alakazam, Digger, Nightly Garbage Run, and
two Psychic Energy. I win the flip. He leads with Snorlax with Rocket Oddish
and Rocket Drowzee on the bench. A perfect set-up for Turbo Snorlax. I drew a
Psychic Energy and attached it to Rocket Abra and used Psyshock with no
paralysis because of Thick-Skinned. He attaches an energy to Snorlax and uses
Rocket Drowzee's Long Range Hypnosis but it fails but Snorlax is not under the
condition because of Thick-Skinned. Thats the entire idea of Turbo Snorlax. A
Hyper-Obese Snorlax stalling and attacking with Dark Gloom and Dark Drowzee
using their powers. I drew Rocket Porygon and benched it. I attached a Psychic
to Rocket Abra and evolved it into Rocket Kadabra and used Digger with it. I
flipped...heads! Yay! I dealt 40 damage with Mind Shock because the attack
says "don't apply weakness and resistance for this attack." He drew
a card, and attached an energy to Snorlax and evolved Rocket Oddish into
Rocket Gloom and used both of their powers. Both failed. That, in itself , is
a miracle. I drew a card, which was a Digger, and used it with Dark Kadabra's
Mind Shock for...heads again! "I am having tons of luck today!" I
thought to myself, but that luck was about to change. In comes Rocket Gloom
with no energy. Rocket Gloom uses Pollen Stench but that fails, but TR Drowzee
uses Long Range Hypnosis and it works, and afterwards he uses Scoop Up on Rocket
Gloom, but forgets to place the Rocket Oddish. I flip tails, but.. I drew
a Psychic Energy and attach it to Rocket Kadabra and evolve it into Rocket
Alakazam and Teleport Blast for the win. That will teach you to copy my decks.
He ran away afterwards, braying and screaming like a donkey. Idiotic fool.
Round 4 Me with Third Eye <Dark Alakazam, Dark
Golduck> versus...no one <nothing, nothing, nothing>
I got a by this round. I just talked with my
friend Richard and traded for a Holo Dark Dragonite to complete
my first edition TR set! Yay! Anyway, I was called to meet my opponent
afterwards, so here we go! The final round, for all the marbles!.
Round 5 me with Third Eye <Dark Alakazam, Dark
Golduck> versus Mitch with Old School Haymaker <Machop, Hitmonchan>
I drew Rocket Abra, Rocket Kadabra, three Digger,
and two Psychic energy. He drew a lone Machop. At the sight of My Machop and
the seen of my three Digger in my hand after Rocket's Sneak Attack, he used
Professor Oak five times with Item Finder and Bill three times and
benched a ton of great pokemon but then realized he was only six turns from
decking. He attached an energy
to Machop and used Low Kick for 20. I drew a
Psychic Energy and used Psyshock with heads...yes! He attached an energy to an
Electabuzz and passed. I drew a Boss' Way and used Psyshock after a
Psychic Energy with heads..Yay again! he passed. I drew a Psychic Energy and
evolved into Dark Kadabra and used Mind Shock after attached Psychic Energy.
He drew and attached a Electric Energy to Electabuzz and flipped tails after
Thundershock! I drew a Rocket Porygon and benched it and evolved into Dark
Alakazam and used Teleport Blast to switch with Porygon. He used Thundershock
with tails! I drew a card, a Rocket Porygon, and benched it. I retreated
Porygon for free and used Teleport Blast to switch with the damaged
Rocket Porygon. He used Thunderpunch and flipped heads... I sent
in Dark Alakazam and used Teleport Blast and switched pokemon with Rocket
Porygon. My prize was a Psychic energy. He sent in another Electabuzz and
attached and used Thundershock with tails. I drew a card, Nightly Garbage
Run, and used it to retrieve Rocket Porygon. I retreated and used Teleport Blast
and swapped again. He decked then... I win!
