As you can see, this is a Haymaker Variant. It has the
strategies of one,
except different pokemon (example: Kangaskhan). The usual Haymaker would have
Hitmos, but I decided to go for something different. And in the end,
different may be better.... oh well, keep reading and you'll see what I mean.
Before the tourney began, we had to wait a few minutes
(thirty) for
everyone to arrive. By the time my opponent came in, a looked at him. Looked
about my age, with freckles and red hair (matches his deck type). The kids at
the table were discussing there decks and what was in it. I was like "What
the heck are you doing? Don't you want a fair chance to win?" Well,
obviously, I didn't show my deck to anyone except for my good friend Brian
(he had known about it a few weeks) and later on a kid with another Haymaker
deck, so it really didn't matter.
Round One: Vs. Japanese Fire Deck
The match started out pretty good. I had an Electabuzz, two
Electric
Energy, one Fire, a Bill, an Energy Removal, and Scoop Up. The coin flip was
succesful on his half, so we flipped our cards over: my Electabuzz versus his
Blaine's Growlithe (the one standing in flames looking up, 50 HP), and an
American Chansey. He drew and attached an energy to Growlithe, but didn't
have enough to attack, so he told me to go. I began by drawing a Grass Energy
and Billing for a Scyther and CS. I laid Scyther down, used CS and discarded
an Electric Energy and a ER. I got a Double Colorless and secured it in my
hand and quickly laid down an Electric Energy for 10 damge to Growlithe and a
Tails. He drew, put another Energy on Growlithe, and showed me the
translation. It read: Does 20 damage to the defending Pokemon and 10 to each
Grass Pokemon in play. So Scyther took ten. I went to get another ER and used
it to get rid of a Fire on Growly. I then attached Fire to Electabuzz and
ThunderPunched to defeat Growly. My opponent couldn't get any basic or Energy
for a few turns and eventually, I had Scyther out doing slash and finally
defeated the Egg Pokemon.
1-0
Round Two: Vs. Some strange Water-Fire-Psychic Deck
This kid was weird. He had already one the first match and
was making
threats like "I saw that Electabuzz deck of yours. I'm gonna beat it up. He
He." He wasn't exactly sure, though. He started out with Charmander in
Active
and Promo Mewtwo and TR Squirtle behind it. I got the coin flip and had
Scyther out. I drew a DCE and used Energy Search for a Grass and laid it on
Scyther to use Swords Dance. For some strange reason the kid didn't know
about Swords Dance and DCE combos, and laid an Energy on Charmander and used
Scratch for twenty. After that he said "Next turn I'll use Ember to kill
him
and win." He also didn't know about "Secretive Strategy".
I went, drew an Electric energy and attached DCE to Scyther
and slashed
for the kill. It was kinda pitiful really. So he got angry and sent out Promo
Mewtwo with an energy attached to it that turn. He said beat that. Luckily,
he didn't use Energy Absorbtion to get the Fire out. (Luckily, I also had a
+Power in my hand.) I drew buzz and and laid him down with an Electric. I
used Slash for 30. He still didn't seem to get any Basic Pokemon, but thought
that didn't matter and laid another PsyEnergy down. Ha.
It was an easy plan. +Power, kill the Meewtwo, retreat the
Scyther, get
Electabuzz with a Fire and Electric on him, and ThunderPunch Squirtle for the
win. And That's what happened.
2-0
Round Three: Vs decent Water Deck
This young kid was good at constructing decks at his age: he
looked about
eight or nine. Well, anyhow, he had Lickitung in front and Articuno behind. I
startd of once again with an Electabuzz and Kangaskhan and Magmar. But an
Electric Energy, Grass Energy, and ER wasn't a bad backup (also Scoop). I
used Thundershock, and he laid a Water on Lickitung and paralyzed me. I laid
down Scyther and a Grass attached to him, and ERed the Water. He attached a
Water to Licki but now Tails, so it went back to me. I got another Grass and
attached it to Electabuzz and caused 40, leaving him down to 40 HP. He went,
put Energy down on Articuno, and once again continued the annoying Tongue
Wrap attack, but fortunantly it was Tails. I drew a Bill, and then 2 +powers.
I put one down on Buzz for assurance of the defeat, and luckily it ended up
being a good idea, because I took 10 to my self. Well, he had another Energy
on Articuno, so I decided to let my Buzz go next turn (mostly cause I got CS
and got a DCE for Scyther).
I did 30 damage, and then let the bird of icy prey defeat me, but not for
long because I soon used the +power on Scyther and defeated the Legend (it is
now) Bird and a lone Poloiwag.
No weeping after the match... the kid shaked my hand and said
good match,
hope you win. I needed that encouragement.
3-0
Me and the 'HayMaker Dude' haven't lost one match... we knew we would
probably go againt each other in the semi-finals or finals, and Brian had
lost two matches so he is automatically disqualified from the tourney. Oh
well...
Round Four: Vs Wiggly-Scyther-Hitmo Deck
This match was probably the longest and hardest of them all.
The Haymaker
Dude didn't go up against him, but he probably would have lost. This kid (he
was 13) had a good deck and had only lost one match with it. Here it goes...
He started out with Hitmo in front and Jiggly and Scyther to
back him up.
I had Fossil Magmar and Electabuzz with me on this one. He started and Jabbed
my Magmar. I used Bill to get a Fire and another Bill, which gave me Scoop Up
and an Electric. I had 2 Fire, 1 Electric and Grass Energy in my hand.
(Lucky) along with Oak and Energy Search in my hand, which I used to get
another Grass. I used Smokescreen causing the Jab to be in no effect from the
2 Fighting Energy Powered Hitmo. I drew SuperEnergy Removal the next turn and
saved that, and than used smog to poison him. After Special Punch and his
turn, my Magmar was down to 20 and his Chan was at 20. Ataching one Energy to
Electabuzz and layind down a newly drawn Scyther was all I needed to do
except for Smog which finish it off.
Next turn, the kid Challenge!ed me, but I let him draw the
cards knowing
he might have a Tuff in his hand. He laid down another Scyther and DCE on
Jiggly to pund me for the defeat. My magmar was gone, but I soon laid down a
Magmar on my bench and Electabuzz in active. I attached a Grass to Electabuzz
and tryed to Punch it down. Unfortunantly it failed and did 30 to him and 10
to me. Next Turn he used Potion and Evolved. Well, I didn't have a problem
with thirty, because next turn I drew a Colorless. The cost was worth it; I
used the DCE for sacrifice to use the SER. No more Do The Wave. I used
Thunder Punch and after escaping the next turns Lullaby (got Heads after his
turn) I defeated the Big Boy. The two stalling Scythers were no match for
powered up Magmar I had about 4 turns later.
4-0
Round Five: Vs Haymaker Deck
I knew this would come. But to my suprise, the Haymaker
Dude's deck
wasn't as good as I excpected. Sure, it was like a regular one, but he had a
lone Hitmo with another one to join it later in the game versus 2 of my
Scythers. In the end, the cards weren't going his way and eventually lost on
about the 8th turn.
5-0
Semifinals
The semifinals were against the Haymaker dude and some
Japanese kid named
Zhuu or something. Anyway, the japanese kid had a sponge deck, and the first
Electabuzz was taken out by Hitmo. The next Electabuzz took out the Hitmo and
gained him a prize. A few turns later, the Haymaker dude's Electabuyzz
couldn't get another energy and fainted. Buty a new Hitmo soon my Garbage
Material out of Zhuu's Electabuzz. A movie mewtwo came out, but a few ERs and
SERs took care of that. So the Haymaker Dude won.
Finals
Round Six: Vs Haymaker Deck
Once again, a Scythre and Fossil Magmar took out an
Electabuzz and a few
Hitmos. The cards just weren't going his way.
6-0
So in the end, I won undefeated. I gained a whole First
Edition box of TR
and two other holo foils (look at the top of Deck Report). Plus, I gained a
whole lot of good cards! I made a pretty good Blastoise/ Gyarados/ Dark
Dragonair deck with it.
