versus Electabuzz and Psy resisters.

Tournament Results:
The Tournament this time around was pretty much a test for Dark Renewal,
which was now up to the thrid version (which I call Dark Renewal III, or
DR3). I played five matches in non-DCI, single elimination format (except for
the first match, if you lose you go into the losers bracket). Now, the
play-by-play.

Round 1 - versus Bob (Magmar/Chansey)
I didn't see much of his deck as I had a horrible hand: an opening Mime
versus his opening Magmar (Fossil). I managed to get Dark Golbat out and KO
his Magmar, but Mr.Mime had died of Poison. Chansey then Double-Edged my
Golbat. Not a great way to start.
0-1

Round 2 - versus Marvin (Mono-Psychic Wigglytuff)
This was the highlight of the day. I opened with Mr. Mime active and Machop
benched versus his Jiggly active and Jiggly benched. He opened with a Lullaby
on my Mr. Mime and I started the with a bang. After playing two Zubats I
Oaked for a fresh hand, played an Energy on Machop and he went. His turn, he
played a Mewtwo and an Energy on Jiggly and hit me for 20. I topdecked a
Scoop Up, got Mime out of there and played two Golbats, hitting Jiggly for 10
each. Machop got one more energy, hit for 40 to KO Jiggly. He brought up the
Mewtwo, and played a Psy on it and Absorbed. My turn I gust out the benched
Jiggly, devolve one Golbat, Item Find for the Devolution Spray to Devolve the
other one, Garbage Runned them back into my deck and played two Boss's Way to
bring them back out. I chose to do 20 to the Mewtwo and hit Jiggly for 40.
Hit turn he evolve Jiggly to Wiggly and Oaked. No Double Colorless, so he
played a Psychic on a new Mewtwo and it was my turn. I drew, played a Zubat,
devolved my Dark Golbat (one of them) and evolved again, hitting the new
benched Mewtwo for 10 (His Pokemon were like this: Active Wiggly (40/80 HP, 1
Energy), benched Mewtwo (Promo, 20/70 HP, 3 Energy), benched Mewtwo (Promo,
10/70 HP, 1 Energy). I choose to sacrafice Machop and KO'ed Wigglytuff. He
brought up the Mewtwo with 10 HP of damage on it, Super Removaled Machop and
Absorbed, which I was not expecting. I finally draw an Energy and play one on
Mr.Mime. I leave Machop active and its his turn. He draws and KO's Machop. I
bring in Mime and Meditate with two PlusPowers to KO the active, then
Meditated the other Mewtwo for the victory. A great match through and through.
1-1

Round 3 - versus Corey (Turbo Snorlax)
I could tell it was a Turbo Snorlax because a.) he had Snorlax and b.) he
told me. So, the match started with his sole Snorlax versus my Active Zubat,
Benched Zubat and Benched Machop. I went first, retreated the Bat and played
energy on Machop. His turn, he plays energy on Snorlax and I go. My turn, I
play two Golbats, making Snorlax 70/90, 30 more damage to do. I devolve
Golbat and Oak 4 (!) times before I find enough PlusPowers to knock out
Snorlax. This deck loves only 1 opening Basic, and that's exactly what it got.
2-1

Round 4 - versus Kid (Wigglytuff with Scyther)
I forgot this kids name, but I had just reached the Final Four of the loser's
bracket. None of his Pokemon, save Jiggly, could hurt Mr. Mime, so that's
what I played for a great deal of the match. The opening match up was Machop
versus his Jiggly and Scyther benched (odd set up if you ask me). He plays
energy and does Lullaby. I stay Asleep and draw a Zubat. I play it, Bill and
get an Energy and a Mime. I play the Mime and an energy falls on to Machop.
His turn (I'm still alseep...) he plays an energy and pounds for 20. I knew
that I had to KO his Jiggly because I had the sneaking suspision of a Wiggly.
So, I draw an Oak. I play Boss's Way, find a Golbat and do 10 damage to
Jiggly. I devolve and Oak, which pulls me a Computer Search among other
things. I search (discarding two Golbats because I had Garbage Run in hand)
for a PlusPower and KO Jiggly, which he in turn bring up Scyther. He plays an
Energy and Swords Dance. I draw an Energy and play it on Mr.Mime, retreat for
Mime and evolve to Golbat, doing 10. I play a Zubat and he goes. He draws,
plays Double Colorless and gusts out Machop for 30. My turn, I draw a Golbat.
I Item Finder for Devolution Spray, devolve, then Garbage Run three Bats back
into my deck. Then I play my fourth Golbat, doing 10, and play and Energy on
Mime. I Boss's Way for a Golbat, evolve, and Meditate for 40, winning the
game.
3-1

Final Match; Round 5 - versus Ray (Wigglytuff w/Magmar and Scyther)
My worst fear: Ray, a real good regular at Heroes, and Magmar, Dark Renewal's
murderer. I open with Mime versus two Scythers. I was ready to find an Oak
for a turn 1 Oak, but he Sneak Attacked away my Search, which pretty much
wrecked me. From there on I quit playing seriously, but managed to kill one
of his Magmars before he benched me. At this point I decided to add something
to handle Magmars.
3-2

Nice tournament, I ended up with 1 1st Ed Rocket Pack with yielded me a Dark
Vileplume Holo. I went home, added Rocket Squirtle for Magmars (I removed 1
Gust of Wind for it). Dark Renewal will be back at Heroes and the Pokemon
League next week, and this time, Magmar will go running. Bye everybody!
