<STS Qualifier TOURNAMENT>
Let me start by saying that I give Wizards all the props in the world for
holding a free event with awesome prizes. The event staff were all nice
and
respectable. I was disappointed with the small turnout. However, I met
Team
Canada and played one member in the finals of the last 15 and up flight of
the day. Overall it was a great weekend for my son and I. Without any
further adieu here is my deck list and report:
Drat Pack - I created this deck to solely put a whipping on all those
Wigglytuff decks. Wigglytuff has his friends and I have mine! Too
bad I
didn't face a Wigglytuff all day! Drat Pack also kills Haymakers and
Evolution decks. 2nd turn Aerodactyl and Dratini active is the concept
behind this deck.
Pokemon(14)
4 Erika's Dratini
2 Base Hitmonchans
2 Rocket Hitmonchans
3 Ditto
3 Aerodactyls
Energy (15)
11 Fighting
4 DCE
Trainers (31)
3 Prof. Oak
3 Gust of Wind
3 CPU Search
3 Potions
3 Bill
3 Scoop Up
3 NGR
3 Item Finder
3 Mysterious Fossil
4 Plus Powers
Round 1 vs. Teenager 1 (Forgot his name)
He had a Rocket's Hitmonchan/ Farfetch'd Haymaker. This was a quick match.
I used Erika's Dratini Tail Strike with 2 Plus Powers and flipped a heads.
Farfetch'd is gone. I saw no Scythers on his side so I evolved M. Fossil
into Aerodactyl and resistance to fighting took out his Rocket's Hitmo in 2
turns.
Record 1-0
Game 2 vs. Teenager 2 (Forgot his name)
He had an Erika status effect deck without Dratini. All I remember
about
this match is that I used my Dittos to inflict quicker pain and damage to
his Pokes before he did mine. I evolved M. Fossil to keep his Weepinbell
and Victrebell in his hand. I won by benching.
Record 2-0
Game 3 vs. Old man collector
I played this guy earlier in the League Zone area so I knew that he was
playing an Eeveelution deck with Dark Charizard. I got my Hitmonchans to
clobber his poor 30 hp Eevees and I won by benching him.
Record 3-0
Game 4 vs. Keith
Keith was using the classic Sponge deck and used it well. Keith used MP
Mewtwos, Electabuzz, and Scyther. This was one of the most exciting
matches
of this flight. We traded prizes back and forth. His MP Mewtwos made
mincement of my Dittos and my Dratinis made mincement of his MP Mewtwos.
His Electabuzz kept on paralyzing my Dratini. Keith and I were tied on
prizes with seconds left to play. Keith had 1 card left in his deck and
then the judge called time. It was on to Sudden Death for the finals.
We only draw 1 Poke to start. I called heads and went first.
As this was
the final flight of the day the crowd gathered in anticipation to watch!
Keith flips over Electabuzz and I flip over base Hitmonchan Yes! I jab for
40. Keith does not draw anything helpful. He Thundershocks with no
paralyzation. I draw a Plus Power(doesn't matter) and jab to get to the
finals!
Record 4-0
Game 5 vs. John from Team Canada
Bear with me for a minute. This story is so hilarious. My son and I arrive
at South Shore Plaza at 7 a.m. sharp that Saturday. We are second in line
to none other than Team Canada. John of Team Canada showed me his deck and
explained how it worked. He thought that we wouldn't face each other in
the
finals. Guess what? 8 hours later we are playing in the finals!
John was playing an Alakazam Tickle Machine Stall. I prefer to play
Moltres
Tickle Machine Stall but his deck was pretty good too. I declined the many
Erika's and Computer Error throughout the match as I knew what he was up to.
I was able to fully charge up two Rocket Hitmonchans and G.O.W. an injured
Chansey for a 100 damage Magnum Punch. He double-edged me with his next
Chansey and we were tied in prizes 1 to 1. I sent in the next Hitmonchan
and I was up in prizes 2 to 1. The match went back and forth and with 2
prizes left for me to draw and 5 minutes left in the game, John flips heads
on three of his Tickle Machines\Imposter Oak combo to deck me. I came in
second place with an invite to New Jersey, a box of Gym Hero Boosters, TCG
for Game Boy, STS Baseball cap, and a T-shirt.
Record 4-1

Props To:
* All parents that play
* Wizards for holding such an awesome free event
* Pojo for such hard and great work
* My son Nicholas (6 yrs old) who tried his best in the under 11
flight
* Tickle Machine stall that took 1st place
* Drat Pack deck that took 2nd place
Slops To:
* People that always ask what type of deck you are playing before the
match. Just be patient and wait. You will find out in a matter
of
seconds.
* Prop 15: As evidenced at the Braintree STS by Tickle Machine deck
and Drat Pack decks taking 1st and 2nd place respectively. That other
decks
besides Wiggly can win. Don't say we got lucky because two people cant get
lucky five rounds in a row!
* No DCI tourneys in the Albany, NY area :-(
