Boy, that's small for a tournament.  But our Toys R Us was holding its last day of Pokemon League for the year, so most stayed there.

I went to this tourney to see if a deck without any of the Big hitters stood a chance.  Could the underdog pokemon (that would be EVERYONE but the Haymakers/Tuff/Raindance guys) compete?

    Shallow Dive:

    4 Brock Zubat
    4 Brock Golbat
    3 Mr. Mime
    3 Gastly
    3 Haunter
    2 Gengar
    2 Chansey

    3 Professor Oak
    3 Computer Search
    3 Item Finder
    3 Energy Removal
    2 Super Energy Removal
    2 Potion
1 Super Potion  (I know the Pojo guys hate potions, but they work so well with Mime.)
    2 Narrow Gym
    2 Nightly Garbage Run

    14 Psychic Energy
      4 Double Colorless Energy

Decks theme:  To use Spiral DIve to soften up your opponent's Pokemon, then go for the KO with Meditate.

Support:  Chansey is there to buy time.  Gastly and friends are there to scare away Chan.

    Here we go.

    Round 1:  vs. Tuff deck

I had out Golbat early.  But it wasn't doing much as he only had Jiggly and Scyther.  At this point, I thought he might be minimzing the effects of Spiral Dive by holding basics in his hand.  That was proven wrong by the worst play I'd ever seen.  He evolved Jiggly into Wiggly, threw down a DCE to fully power up the wave, and CPU Searched.  I knew what was coming, but I was wrong again!  I was thinking an Oak was coming, but he got a SER!  With no hand, he stripped my energies off the Golbat.  Why?  He had a hard time recovering after that blunder as even Wiggly with 60 damage can't survive a Psychic meditate.

    1-0

Round 2: vs. Andrew's Water Deck

A Rain Dance without Blastoise.  Misty's Horsea/Seadra, Lapras, MP Articuno.  Spiral Dive weakened the bench over and over.  Best combo of the tourney.  He had 60 damage on 2 MP Articunos, 60 on Lapras, and 20 on Seadra.  I had Haunter on the Bench.  I evolved Haunter into Gengar, cursed one from Seadra to Lapras, and Spiral Dived 3 of his bench out of the game.

      2-0

    Round 3 vs. Sponge

Short Summary:  3 Zubats vs MP Mewtwo.  Nuff said.

      2-1

Round 4 vs Daniel's Deck from Hell

I don't know what to call this deck.  Gastly, Haunter, Ditto, Scyther, and Chansey.  After exchanging Double Edges for our first 2 prizes, I got hit with an attack that set the tone for the rest of the game.  He had the nerve to use Gastly's Energy Conversion to retrieve 2 DCE.  Then Haunter made his appearance, while my spooks were trick or treating.  All my ER and SER were countered by a No ER Gym.  My Narrow gym countered that, which was countered by ANOTHER No ER gym.  His Haunter had fun avoiding Golbat while doing double damage.  Even Mime wasn't safe.  After an intense battle, I came up short.

2-2  Did not qualify for the FInals.

So, the underlings came up short.  No Er Gyms are being played everywhere, so next time I'll remove the Narrow, the ER and SER.  I'll Play No ER Gym, throw in another Chansey, another NGR.   It has potential.
