About 17 contestants

Note: This is not another Raindance (Blastoise/Lapras/Articuno) or Energy
Denial (Poliwrath/ Dragonair/Dark Vaporeon) deck.
I was going through my cards the other day and I noticed that Dewgong has
good attacks and Seadra does, too. So I decided to make a deck out of it,
adding Erika's Dratinis and Ditto to keep it safe from Electabuzzes. Miltank
is there only for Psychics.
Of course, I only had two Dewgongs, three Seels, three Misty's Seadra and
zero Horseas at the time so it wasn't gonna be good. But I still stuck with
the idea and put cases over all of them.

Misty: the Tomboyish Mermaid

Pokémons (19)

3x Erika's Dratini (Shuts down Haymakers)
1x Erika's Dragonair (In case if Dratini can't hold it much longer)
4x Seel (Better than Magikarp)
3x Dewgong (Gyarados II, and only an uncommon)
3x Misty's Horsea Lv. 10 (Okay Basic)
3x Misty's Seadra (Good attacks)
1x Ditto (It's fun to copy'em all)
1x Miltank (Somewhere crossed between Chansey and Lickitung) [Neo Pokémon,
translation below]

Trainers (22)

4x Bill (Card drawing)
3x Professor Oak (More card drawing)
3x Gust of Wind (Come here, Magikarp!)
2x Energy Removal (Technical difficulties)
2x Plus Power (Powerhouse difficulties)
2x Lt. Surge's Treaty (= The entire game if the opponent isn't so smart)
1x Pokémon Trader (Right time, right Pokémon)
1x Secret Mission (Mini-Oak)
1x Good Manners (I choose Ditto!)
1x Team Rocket's Sneak Attack ('Suddenly, there was one less')
1x Cerulean City Gym (For Seadras only)
1x Golden Nut (Perfect potion) [Neo card, translation below]

Energy (19)

16x Water Energy
2x Double Colorless Energy
1x Potion Energy (Turns the whole game around sometimes)

Miltank (It's the American name of this Pokémon)                        70HP
Basic Pokémon                                                       Colorless

C       Miruku's Milk:
Flip two coins. For each heads, take two damage counters off
Mirutanku.

CCC Body Slam:                                                  20
Flip a coin. If heads, the defending Pokémon
        Is now paralyzed.

Weakness: Ground
Resistance: Psychic
Retreat Cost: CC

Golden Nut

Attach this card to 1 of your Pokémon that does not have a Pokémon Item
already attached to it (Like Plus Power or Defender). If this Pokémon is
knocked out, discard this card. At the end of anyone's turn, if this Pokémon
has 4 or more damage counters on it, discard this card and remove 4 of them.

This is one of the decks that go on total offense.
Erika's Dratini is there for those Haymakers. When the damage counters
add up, Erika's Dragonair is there to back it up.
Seel is a nice basic and way better than Magikarp. Dewgong is like
Gyarados II, only an uncommon and slightly lower HP and second attack.
Misty's Horsea/Seadra line is going on a test. Horsea might be a little
weak to those Electabuzzes out there but Seadra's attacks are pretty good,
with the possible damage of 90.
Ditto copies Electabuzz and sometimes, Dark/Steel Pokémons. It's fun to
use an attack that requires Dark/Steel energies.

Before League:

I arranged a couple good friends of mine (Monica, Mitch and Scott) to
give me the cards I needed. Scott had an extra Cerulean Gym so I traded my
1st-edition Vermilion Gym for it and Misty's Horsea. Monica gave me a Misty's
Horsea, Dewgong and Seel. Mitch gave me Misty's Horsea but it was in Japanese
so I traded it for the American version plus an Energy Removal.
All matches were done with Lt. Surge's Challenge. Every battle after the
third one was done with six prizes and the opponent used four.

Round 1 vs. Mitch with Lightning Togepi (Electric/Colorless)

I had to persuade him to come to the League.
Mitch said that he's gonna whoop me since his deck is Electric and
suggested that I use my Erika deck. I declined and went ahead with Misty's
Vacation.
I won the coin flip and started with Misty's Horsea active and Erika's
Dratini benched. He started with Chansey and Togepi benched. I drew a Seadra
and energized Horsea. Did ten to Chansey. Whoopee. Mitch attached energy to
Togepi and benched Rocket's Snorlax. I gusted out Togepi, evolved Horsea to
Misty's Seadra and benched Seel. Used Tail Snap for twenty. A couple of turns
later, the board was something like this: I had Misty's Seadra out, fully
powered Dewgong and Dratini on bench, he had Togepi KO'ed, Chansey out and
fully energized Lt. Surge's Raichu and Ditto on bench. I used gust for Lt.
Surge's Raichu since I knew that he was going to use it. I retreat Seadra and
sent out Dewgong. Used Ice Beam with heads. I thought I was going to beat the
Raichu and then Snorlax for the win but no, he used Potion on Raichu! I had
no Plus Powers in my hand so I took a chance again with Dewgong's Ice Beam.
Heads. He knew that Raichu's gonna go bye-bye next turn so he benched and
slapped a DCE on Rocket's Snorlax. I Aurora Beam Raichu to an ice cube. Mitch
sends out Snorlax and used Collapse. He didn't know that you don't have to
flip the coin for Snorlax to wake up. And he got heads and Snorlax woke.
Now there's a new meaning to sleep status.
I used Energy Removal on his benched Ditto and used Ice Beam with tails.
He used Collapse again, I returned the favor with Aurora Beam + Plus Power
for the win.

1-0

Round 2 vs. Monica with Pikachu Revolts deck (Psychic/Electric)

I built the entire deck for her so it was easy beating her. To make a
long story short: I started with Miltank vs. a bunch of Psychic Pokémons and
beat them all, with an occasional Lt. Surge's Pikachu/Raichu in the way.
Raichu turned into Rice-chu by my Dewgong.

2-0

Between matches:

I went around, looking at pitifully done decks by newcomers/4th grader or
lower/new players beating another pitifully done deck. A kid had an Erika's
Vileplume out (not a part of the battle) and I offered to trade my Brock's
Rhydon for it. He accepted it and went ahead, with Sam (Monica's little
sister) asking when are they going to finish the battle.

Round 3 vs. Kid with Potpourri deck (Psychic/Grass/Ground)

I went like 'oh, this is going to be easy' when he announced that he has
a Potpourri deck. Half the time you get the wrong card at the wrong time
unless you have four energy searches.
I won the coin flip and started with Ditto and Erika's Dratini benched.
He flipped the cards and surprise! It's Rocket's Scyther! I energized Ditto
and used Shadow Images. He followed with the same thing. And I attached
another energy and passed. And he copied me. I tried Blinding Scythe but got
tails. He drew, benched Erika's Dratini and tried Blinding Scythe with tails.
I benched Misty's Horsea and started energizing it. I used Blinding Scythe
and got heads. He energized his Dratini and used Shadow Images. I evolved
Horsea into Misty's Seadra and attached another energy to it. I used gust and
then gust again to delete Shadow Images attack and killed it with Ditto. He
drew and benched Sabrina's Abra and attached energy to Dratini. Used Tail
Strike with tails. I considered Ditto's transformation. Should I stay or
transform into Erika's Dratini? I didn't know why it took me so long to think
but I ended by transforming. I used Tail Strike and didn't even bother
flipping. He strikes back. I retreated Ditto (currently with two damage
counters) and sent out Misty's Seadra, fully energized. I used Knockout
Needle (didn't bother to flip) and knockout Dratini. He sends out Abra, used
Energy Loop and did twenty. I want to end the match quickly so I retreated
Seadra and send out Ditto, transformed, used Energy Loop and killed Abra due
to weakness.

3-0

Round 4 vs. Scott with Turbo Flyer deck (Colorless/?)

I always forget the matches that I lose for some reason. I do remember
winning the coin flip and Chris (storeowner/Gym Leader) telling me that we
had to play with Scott 4 prizes/me 6 prizes. After a long while, I managed to
get the prizes down a lot. I gusted out Pidgey, attached Plus Power to
Erika's Dratini and used Tail Strike with heads. He sends out Dratini and
evolved it into Dark Dragonair and used Tail Strike back at me with heads and
won the game. If it was a tails, I could have won the game next turn. Misty's
Seadra made some appearances in the beginning, serving as a punching bag.

3-1

Between Matches:

I challenged Chris and he said yes, after he finishes this battle with
the kid that I played early on with the Potpourri deck.
Rob was talking about something and I cut in after he made a statement.
"Goody for you, Marco." (This is a running joke between us and half of the
League) He responded with "Be quiet, Marco Polo girl." And I wanted to
stretch the 'Marco' so I continued talking about nonsense stuff that I
already knew.
    "What's Polo?"
    "Polo's a shirt!"
    "So you're a shirt?"
"No, I meant Polo's… (Sighs/groans) why do I even bother talking to you?"

Round 5 vs. Chris with Hyperbeam Headache deck (Water/Colorless)

Chris has some really good decks, like a classic Haymaker and a Stall
deck. This is my first time playing him and he used his Hyperbeam Headache
deck.
He won the dice throw. Bad. That means he have the winning edge. The
earlier the Hyperbeam, the worse for me. Fortunately (or unfortunately) we
started with one Basic each. He had a Promo Eevee and I had Erika's Dratini.
He energized and did Bite, which only did ten to Dratini due to Pokémon
Power. I energized, benched Misty's Horsea and passed. Chris used Computer
Search (I thought I was dead but no, he searched for something other than
Dark Vaporeon) and got out something (I couldn't remember well). He started
building a nice bench, with Dark Vaporeon, Dark Dragonair and Dragonair. But
I got out Dewgong a few turns later, using Misty's Seadra to stall for couple
turns, absorbing the Hyperbeams and doing enough damage to let Dewgong to
clean up. I slapped down Cerulean Gym after being Whirlpooled to no energies
and retreated Seadra for free. Then Dewgong went on, killing Dark Vaporeon.
Chris ran out of energies and Dewgong just killed Dark Dragonair and
Dragonair four turns later.

4-1

Round 6 vs. Mitch again with Lightning Togepi deck (Electric/Colorless)

Okay, this was really, really quick.
I won the coin flip and sent out Misty's Horsea with Erika's Dratini and
Seel benched vs. a lone Togepi. I attached energy, did ten. He energized and
passed. I evolved Horsea to Misty's Seadra, attached Plus Power and did
thirty to knockout Togepi. No Basics for him.

5-1

Between Matches:

I tried calling my mom/dad so he/she would pick me up. Instead I got the
answer machine.

Round 7 vs. Newcomer with Misty deck (Flat-out Water)

He bought a Misty deck and made some adjustments to it but it was no
match vs. a third turn, Aurora Beaming Dewgong. Misty's Goldeen, Misty's
Poliwag, Misty's Staryu (I knocked it out with Seadra's Knockout Needle,
which actually got two heads!) and some other weak Misty Pokémons.

6-1

Between Matches:

I tried calling again, and this time got my dad. Whoopee.

Round 8 vs. Rob 'the Almighty' with Haymaker Variant deck (Fighting/Electric)

No one was left so I just challenged Rob, who was eating lunch. He
accepted and played the game holding his hand in one hand and a hero sandwich
in the other.
I go first and start with Misty's Horsea vs. Electabuzz. My bench
consists of Erika's Dratini and Seel and his was a Hitmonchan and Scyther
(shudder). I evolved Horsea into Seadra the next turn to avoid being knocked
out. Rob is pretty good but he used the Haymaker instead of his usual deck,
Hyperbeam Headache (just like Chris') which always beat me. I let Seadra and
Erika's Dratini to stall (killing Electabuzz, Hitmonchan, Scyther and
damaging another Scyther) and let out Dewgong's Aurora Beam. Rob had damaged
Scyther out, and two Machops on bench. Dewgong mowed through the Pokémons and
I won, due to both running him out of Basics and drawing all of my prizes.

7-1

I won Lt. Surge's Challenge and got a sticker. Now I'm onto Erika's
Challenge.

Well, I guess my Misty: the Tomboyish Mermaid deck has proven its worth
and it might get taken apart, depending whether it's the Gym Challenge
Prerelease Tournament or not next weekend.
