(Pojo~I apologize for my errors in the last sending of this report; I forgot
to put my name in the subject line. Here is the second one and most accurate.)
Hi, my name is Steph and I am 13 years old. I recently participated in a
tournament with my Chansey Haymaker variant, Chanseymaker.
City: Tulsa
State: Oklahoma
Place: Wizards Asylum Comics & Games
Date: Saturday, August 26th, 2000
The rules of this tournament were like this: 3 matches per person (regardless of
win/loss ratio), with winner of the match winning best 2 out of 3 games. The
attendance was about 14 people. Here's the deck configuration:
Pokémon (13):
4 Electabuzz
4 Fossil Magmar
2 Scyther
2 Chansey
1 Ditto
Energies (18):
7 Electric
7 Fire
4 Double Colorless
Trainers (29):
4 Bill
4 Energy Removal
4 PlusPower
3 Gust of Wind
3 Professor Oak
3 Scoop Up
2 Nightly Garbage Run
2 Super Energy Removal
2 Item Finder
2 Computer Search
Match 1: Brody with Water/Electric deck
This kid was new to Wizards Asylum tournaments, and said he wasn't that great at
the game. I didn't know what I was in for (since I wasn't very experienced
myself), and we started the match. He played a water/electric, with obvious
inclusion of the Squirtle and Pikachu line. The 1st game, his basic was a
Squirtle, mine an Electabuzz. He already knew this wouldn't be easy, since he
couldn't hold off well against archetypes like mine. The 1st game lasted for
a while--I used about every kind of Pokemon in my deck, when finally, I won by
drawing all my prizes, with him still having 4 left. The 2nd game, which was
also long, I started with a Magmar, and he with a Squirtle again. By this time,
everyone else had already started their 3rd game, and some matches had already
ended. I saw several attempts to evolve Squirtle to Blastoise, but I
killed his basics before he could even evolve to Wartortle. Again, I used a wide
variety of cards, and then time was called. I had 1 prize left, and he had 3,
and the game was called a draw. But, I had won the match, because I won the
first game.
Games: 1-0-1, Matches: 1-0
Match 2: Ryan with Wigglytuff deck
This was definitely an interesting match. There was this college guy watching
(who was really weird), and informed me that Ryan was a cheater, and I was like,
"Great." Ryan talked a LOT through the match, which I'm sure was some
form of distraction in order to win. The 1st game, I thought I saw him try to
cheat, but I never let him. However, he was very experienced in getting Wiggly
out on turn 2, and always had a D.C.E. there for it. Since Do The Wave is more
than a match for Haymaker Pokemon (even Chansey didn't last), he won the 1st
game. The 2nd game was about the same, except I found out a little more about
his strategy, and fought against it. Still, his Wigglytuff dominated--giving him
the match.
Games: 1-2-1, Matches: 1-1
Match 3: Brad with Haymaker/Wigglytuff deck
This kid had a lot of game for his age: 7. I was surprised to see anyone show up
that young, and even his rankings were higher than mine. He played his
deck well, except he couldn't get Wiggly out on turn 2, but rather 4 or 5, which
made quite a difference. But, whenever I saw one, I took full advantage
to kill it. The first game, he built up several Wigglys consecutively on the
bench, but he never got a chance to use them, and rather attempted to fight
his way through the game using Electabuzz and Scyther. Still, those didn't stop
me from beating his best weapons, and I won the game. The 2nd game was
basically the same, except he got to use Wiggly some. Still, that wasn't enough
to win him the match.
Games: 3-2-1, Matches: 2-1
Well, this was a very good tournament for me, since in previous tournaments, I
had never won more than one match. I didn't make it to the finals, though,
because only the top 4 were allowed this time (and each of them had won all
their matches). Time for Props & Slops!
Props to my mom for taking me
Props to Brody for being a good sport, and being nice
Props to the officials for, once again, complimenting my wins and being cool ^_^
Slops to that weird college kid who kept breaking my concentration during the
second match...
Well, that's it! Thanks for reading my report!
