About 18 people turned up

Greetings from the UK! I’d been searching for a place to play in Sheffield (my hometown) when I discovered that a shop called Starstore did a Trading Card Leauge on mondays. So I decided to pop down and see what it was like.

Evolution Fury Deck created by Tom dewsnap

I had never used this deck before, but my Floor Sweeper Deck (sorta like the Sponge deck) was getting too predictable.

Pokemon

2x Base Bulbasaur

1x Base Ivysaur

1x Base Venusaur (Leader of the deck with Pokemon Power!)

3x Base Dratini

2x Rocket Dragonair (Essential Pokemon Power!)

2x Base Charmander

1x Base Charmeleon

1x Base Charizard (Easy to use with Venusaurs Energy Trans)

3x Rocket Eevee

1x Rocket Vaporeon (Colourless, and able to fend off any fire Pokemon)

1x Jungle Vaporeon (Same as above, but a bit more quicker)

TOTAL- 18

Trainers

2x Super Potion (Get healin’!)

4x Gust of Wind (For easy KO’s)

4x Switch (Scoop up is useless in this deck)

2x Challenge! (Some sucker wll hopefully accapt)

2x Goop Gas Attack (Stops annoying Pokemon Powers [MR MIME!!])

2x Computer Search (No fuss, just get the card you need)

2x Super Energy Removal (Critical to the opponent)

TOTAL- 18

Energy

22x Grass Energy

2x DCE

The aim of this deck is to use Dragonair’s Evolutionary Light to evolve all of the basic Pokemon into their Stage 2 Counterpart with minimum of fuss, and then to use Venusaurs Energy Trans to power up the fighting Pokemon quickly with grass enrgy (all except Venusaur have an attack that can use any energy). I would have put a few Pokemon Breeders in though, but I’ve only got 1 (DAMN!).

Battle 1

Me vs Annoying kid with Dark Charizard.

What an annoyance! As soon as I got in the stupid place this annoying kid accuses me of stealing his Dark Charizard! Anyway, I decided to battle him and he deck was pretty pathetic.

I started out with my Eevee out, a Dratini on the bench and had Jungle Vaporeon in my hand.

He started with a rocket Charmander out and one on the bench. I went first and drew Computer Search, which I used to get my Dark Dragonair. I took out the first Charmander very easily on my second turn and then his bench started to fill up with squirtles. After a while I drew Challenge and the fool accaepted, leaving me to evolve all of my Pokemon and destroy his pathetic deck.

1-0

Battle 2

Me vs Stupid Kid with (surprise) Dark Blastoise

Geez, what a stupid kid! He needed a Base Zapdos to complete the base set, and he offered me a Team Rocket Oddish for it!!! What does he take me for? Anyway we battled and it became obvious that some of the kids here really didn’t know much about building a deck, as they just opted for the card that was the flavour of the month, or Charizard or Blastoise. He started off with a rocket Squirtle and by his third turn he had a Dark Blastoise (cheat) and I thought I was doomed, until I realised that he only had about 10 energy in his deck.

2-0

Battle 3

Me vs Stan with Ground and grass deck

This is more like it! Finally, someone who’d rather battle than collect! He had quite a few jungle cards in his deck, and at one point it looked like he was gonna win with his Marowak vs my Dratini. But then I drew Challenge which he stupidly accepted which turned the match in my favour. A few turns later I got Charmeleon and got Charizard as a prize which ended him.

3-0

Battle 4

Me vs Kid with Movie Promo Deck

Very Bizarre deck this. He told me that he had 4 Promo Mewtwo, 4 Promo Electabuzz and 4 Promo Pikachu. His only real threat was the Mewtwo and his Scoop Up trainers but I got Venusaur and Charizard pretty early thanks to Dark Dragonair and this was over pretty fast.

4-0

Battle 5

Me vs Stan- THE REMATCH!

I wanted to win five out of five games before I left and Stan wanted me a rematch so I battled him again. But Stan had now acquired a couple of Chansey’s from somewhere, and he stalled for basically the entire match. Evolutions were scarce and so was Dark Dragonair or Computer Search and by the time my Pokemon evolved it was too late. He decked me.

4-1

FINAL SCORE 4-1

Not bad eh? The deck has a few niggles that could be ironed out, but next time I battle, I think I’m gonna find a place which does tournaments instead of a leauge. Now onto Props and Slops!

Props to....

Stan, for not being annoying.

Me, for playing well

The idiot who traded his Lickitung for my Bellsprout

Slops to.....

Annoying kid for accusing me of stealing his Dark Charizard.

Stupid Kid for offering me an Oddish for Zapdos.

Mean Kid for trying to steal my Promo Mewtwo’s.

Starstore, for having to hold the leauge in PePe’s, a restaurant next door.

PePe’s, for having no damage counters and incrediably small tables.

I did all right, I suppose but my deck has a few problems. E-mail me with suggestions, queiries or for information about this deck. Also, e-mail me if you would like to know what the Floor Sweeper v1.4 deck is (Floor Sweeper record: Wins- 12 Losses- 1)

Hope you enjoyed this report
