Well, this is my first time at this site (I'm here at the tournament right
now actually) and a friend told me about this so I figured I'd try it out.
I normally don't like slow kill decks, I mainly liked to use heavy hitters
in decks like hitmonchan or sneasel, but after seeing Sneasel dominate the
tournament scene I decided to go for a slow kill deck, thus the idea for Koga's
Toxin. Today is the first time that I am playing this deck, and I'm
actually writing this while I'm waiting for my turn to play on a friend's
powerbook that he brought with him. Here's the deck.
Pokémon (27)
4 Nidoran Male (Base 2)
2 Nidorino (Base 2)
1 Nidoking (Base 2)
4 Koga's Weedle (Gym Challenge)
2 Koga's Kakuna (Gym Challenge)
1 Koga's Beedrill (Gym Challenge)
1 Koga's Pidgey (Gym Challenge)
2 Grimer (Fossil)
1 Muk (Fossil)
2 Koga's Grimer (Gym Challenge)
1 Koga's Muk (Gym Challenge)
2 Togepi (Neo)
2 Koga's Koffing (Gym Challenge)
2 Koga's Weezing (Gym Challenge)
Trainers (10)
2 Koga's Ninja Trick (Gym Challenge)
1 Fuscia City Gym (Gym Challenge)
2 Potion (Base 2)
2 Professor Elm (Neo)
1 Switch (Base 2)
1 Bill (Base 2)
1 Pokemon Trader (Base 2)
23 Grass Energy
Well, I know it sounds like a lot of pokemon, and it may be, but this deck
has been working well. The core of the deck is Toxin, which Nidoking,
Koga's Weezing, and Koga's Kakuna all have. The Muk can turn off all of
the annoying Powers, like elekid and Erika's Dratini and Mr. Mime. Koga's
Muk can get rid of energy as well, and the Koga's Pidgey can pull out a much
needed evo.
Match #1 (Quarterfinals) vs. Mat (Sneasel / Giovanni's Machamp deck)
Got to quarterfinals due to a bye. This was a very close match,
Sneasel coming out early and beating me up, but killed him with toxin from
Nidoking. Next came a Hitmonchan who fell to toxin as well. Then
rest of the game went the same, with the final blow coming from a Toxin from
Koga's Weezing.
1-0
Match #2 (Semifinals, winner's bracket) vs. Dusty (Gyarados/ Dark Machamp
Deck "Dragon Fling")
Well this match was insanely quick. Opening battle was Koga's Weedle
vs. a Magikarp. No pokemon on his bench, Magikarp died in Two turns to
poison, winning the match.
2-0
Match #3 (Finals) vs. Dusty (The Dragon Fling Deck Again)
After losing to me in the Semifinals, Dusty won his match in the loser's
bracket to face me again, he would have had to beat me twice to take first
because of the double elimination, but here's the final match.
I started crappy, 2 koga's weedles, a koga's koffing and a grimer,
dusty took me out with a gyarados, ouch.
Since it was a double elimination, we had to play again. I started
with a koga's weedle and a nidoran male, he started with chansey, I poisoned him
with weedle, and evolved into kakuna and used emerge to beedrill second
turn, and hyper needled a hitmonchan. Then it went back and forth until
gyarados, then I lost bad. Oh well.
I got a pack of Gym Challenge for second place, the rare being Lt. Serge's
Secret Plan, not bad.
Props to dusty for coming back for the win.
Nothing bad to report, it was a fun tournament
